Mass Effect Andromeda: Shitstorm Edition - RIP Biowear

Bioware is already up to their old tricks.

So serious question: let's say Andromeda is a shitshow on the level of Dragon Age II, the Mass Effect 3 ending, or even the mixed bag of Inquisition. Is that it for BioWare? Is this their last chance?

They aren't Bioware any more. The current parade of talent-vacuums who trade under that name could never have come up with the brilliance that was Baldur's Gate. They're basically a trading name of EA now and that means marketing at the forefront, corporate bollox, microtransactions, and DLC.

I'm not even sure Andromeda will be worth pirating.

I think if it turns out to be DA:I level, they'll be fine in terms of the gaming community. Especially if its very friendly to the source material and not overtly rubbing previous ME fans faces in shit. It will able to coast on its name and the Mass Effect name. Plenty of mediocre studios do this. Overall, this is what I'm expecting. Despite my dislike and distrust of it, I think it'll just end up being thoroughly mediocre with some hilarious bugs, animation issues and really fugly models (that will be completely modded to something better within 2 minutes).

I would be really surprised if they pulled off another ME 3 level of fuck-up. I mean, that's an impressive level of fucking up to do it twice in a row. If they do that, Bioware is pretty much dead. Even its fanboys would have a hard time defending it.

If its a DA 2, I think that's also it for Bioware, though in a less spectacular fashion than an ME 3 level disaster. They really needed a title to rebuild the trust of their audience and another incidence of DA 2 isn't it.

In terms of EA, all it really needs to do is sell well. Though exactly how well is generally ridiculous in terms of studios like EA.

Inquisition-level would be eminently survivable, I agree. For one thing it's mostly more hardcore players who are really down on DA:I and, in my own view, the game's really not that bad. It mostly suffered from awful amounts of padding, a truncated main story, and debuting in the shadow of Witcher 3. (And the creeping SJW-ism, of course, but I think that's going to be priced into anything BioWare does until the tumblerinas lose interest in it).

I don't even know if a Mass Effect 3 level of failure is possible. So much of that was the result of particular expectations people had for the game, and no one even really has expectations for this one (apart from, "please don't suck.")

Unfortunately I think something one the level DA2 is a somewhat likely scenario. I don't think it'll be as glaringly obvious -- holy Christ, is Kirkwall ugly and boring and repetitive -- but the shifts in the writing teams and the goofy animations aren't terribly encouraging.

For most companies, maybe not; but word on the internet is that EA's disappointed with their purchase now and want to consolidate.

EA as a whole tends to be cyclical. It will suck, suck badly, suck so badly that other studios are sucked into it, will commit acts of phenomenal dickery, then gradually pull out of it, normalize for a while, become awesome for a bit, do something fucking great, earn the respect of the industry again, get lazy, enter a decaying orbit, start sucking, and then the cycle repeats.

This said: EA eventually murders even competent studios it acquires.

Bioware will be no different.

So has Manveer sperged out yet about how the default Ryder family for the promo footage are "white saviors" or some crap? (I can't help but find it really funny that despite all the "WE NEED TO PANDER TO OUR FELLOW SJWS AND BE PROGRESSIVE!!!" stuff Bioware goes on about, athletic, straight (at least in the default guy Ryder's case--have seen him getting intimate with only female characters thus far in trailer stuff), white people are still portrayed as the default for their marketing. :story:)

EA is smart enough to realize putting a 300+ pound non binary niggo in the launch trailers is a bad idea.

some kind of gremlin, i guess? not 100% on board with bioware's attempt to fuse sci-fi and fantasy.

I wish I could have been a fly on the wall when the white hating poo in loo game play designer realized EA released a trailer with a white women cold cocking a black dude. I'll bet he threw an Ipad Brianna Wu style.

Considering the black dude is canon straight I bet he probably had no issue with it.
