Hypothetically, how much of a legal SNAFU would a would-be developer get into for making an "I'm not touching you, lmao" sci-fi IP that takes place after a devastating galactic war against the reapers The Horrible Alien Menace From Deep Space and had squad building, dialogue wheels, and tactical combat? If Bioware gets flushed, then I kind of hope somebody out there makes such a game. Hopefully it's not bad.

There's the upcoming Owlcat game based on The Expanse for a definitely-not-Mass Effect title, but I don't think they said where it is in the timeline yet.

Not really any trouble at all. You can't copyright a plot, or a game mechanic, or a character archetype. You can copyright names, you can copyright the specific narrative you wrote, and you can copyright the exact physical appearance of a character or object or interface element. But copyright protects a specific expression, not a vague concept. It's illegal to directly copy, but not to rip off.

pretty much why the nemesis system is copyrighted, you can make a legally distinct version of it though but warner will sue your ass since U.S jewdiciary system is more about who has the most money rather than actual fucking justice and truthfulness.
part of me likes it though, jeets and jews haven't hit the nemesis system with the slop ray because it's copyrighted/patented.

This is why I hate intellectual property in general. It needs to be abolished.

I booted up Andromeda recently after giving awful shit like Halo 4 and 5 a go and I'm gonna be real, I think everyone went light on this game. Every aspect is terrible and insufferable. And the fact that it is 2 to 3 times as long as the others in the series is pure cock and ball torture. You get a game that looks worse, animated worse, plays worse and has nonstop chungus talking when in comparison to a game from fucking 2007 and we were suppose to be "hooray Mass Effect is back?". How the fuck did EA not just kill Montreal but the whole of Bioware on the spot is baffling to me.

I'm about to play these games for the first time via the Legendary Edition. Any advice for a fun playthrough? Any missable content?

Probably going Sentinel.

Sentinel was one of the more boring classes, I found, but extremely tanky especially in ME3. Soldier is fine, but the pure tech or biotic classes were the most entertaining for me. Infiltrator was interesting in ME2 and 3. Vanguard is ok and very engaging.

As far as content, it really depends on how much you care about the story and leveling. Most of the DLCs are serviceable, but especially in 2 they're just checklist items for me before I finish and move on to the next game. All 3 major mission DLCs have interesting stories and lore implications, but don't offer much that's new gameplay wise. Overlord's tank segments are fun, and the mission spaces in Shadow Broker are visually captivating. Same for ME3. Interesting stories, but they don't do much new in gameplay. You get one my favorite special training powers from Omega in 3.

They're pretty well made games and you don't need a ton of mods to improve them. No shared cooldowns is essential for me, and the one that removes weapon restrictions in 2. Personally, I don't play 3 without a few mods that alter plot elements, like the happy ending mod, citadel ending, cutting most Kai Leng content, etc.

there isn't one really, if you want bland shit go with shotgun soldier and garrus/tali, melee people to death when you use immunity.
romance ashley in ME1 and get rid of her in virmire, then romance tali in ME2/3, flirt with kelly for shits and giggles.
Any missable content?
pinnacle station, as in actually missable because it does not exist in ME Legendary Edition.

There are 3 community patches for the Legendary Edition (one for each game) that fixed a bunch of things that Bioware or whatever contractor studio missed when they made the LE.
ME1 LE, ME2 LE and ME3 LE.

Do try to to do as many side quests as possible for ME1.
I would argue to do literally as much side questing and optional content completion as you possibly can during your first playthrough. Nearly to the point of exhaustion. Because the games generally tends to play the same way through each time because of how linear the story is written across the trilogy. The branching narratives or 'fork in the road' moments are often 'blink and you miss it' quick or entirely inconsequential.

The second and third games are especially linear for titles advertised as being open world RPGs. They are more like an on rails arcade shooters. From what I remember you can't even choose your mission order in the third game. You have to play it out like a movie where the developers don't really allow you to explore your own narrative or story.

With the Mass Effect trilogy your first playthrough is going to be the best one. So you might as well try to get engaged with every piece of story or side quest that you are able to discover in your first run. Because subsequent playthroughs offer nothing but diminishing returns.

Dont do the mission where you get Legion until you done everyone side quest in Mass Effect 2 (minus Tali). in fact, bringing Legion on her side quest is very funny.

Was thinking of playing the games again myself at some point. Going to be an Engineer in all three games.

Fuck sake why did I have to be reminded of this series by some random youtube recommendations. Fuck it, time to do a playthrough for the first time in many many years.
I'm still mad that ME3 had a shit ending, but that anger is microscopic compared to the anger that I feel about sci fi and video games as a whole being raped to death over the last 10 years.
Anyway, Garrus best boy, never cure the genophage and the M-44 Hammerhead was the greatest crime committed against gamers in history.

Chuddy gem I came across on YT

The Asari are fucking stupid and they are by far the worst race in the entire game.
>Brooooo what if there was a race of super hot alien babes who could have EPIC MIND SEX with you. Also they can have kids with any species from their epic mind sex too. Plus they REALLY want to have kids with non-asari (you especially).

Given what Javik the Prothean says about the Asari having been genetically modified by them in the previous cycle I propose that they were meant to be a literal sex toy slave race that they tried to jury rig into a Reaper fail-deadly weapon.

It literally explains everything about them.

My pet theory has always been that they are prehistoric humans abducted and genetically modified by the Protheans. Also they fucking suck and so does their shitty Space EU that they created to impose a bunch of rules on all the other races which they see no need to actually follow themselves. See e.g. forcing every other species to public domain any Prothean tech they find, while the Asari sat on the motherload of Prothean tech and kept it a state secret. Mass Effect's setting could actually be a lot more fun if you removed the whole Reaper thing and focused more on how the Council is actually fucking evil and deserve to have their shit pushed in.

Aren't the Council races older than the Humans though?
