I thinks most of those people would just be left to die a century ago or managed to get themselves killed in an early age.
Modern Western society just refuses to either fix or kill it's problematic members and then act surprises when they go off and kill some innocent.

How did the asylum system work before Reagan shut it down?

Well looks like the "chemical imbalance" theory of depression was a hoax that Big Pharma propagated to sell pills

“The popularity of the ‘chemical imbalance’ theory of depression has coincided with a huge increase in the use of antidepressants.”

It doesn't surprise me that SSRIs are a scam but I don't think they are responsible for mass shootings. Like yeah no shit anyone who is fucked up enough to commit one has been prescribed the mega popular depression drug that doctors give out like candy. The true cause of mass shootings is, well, let's just say it's something else.

What is your opinion on what causes mass shootings me I think it's a little bit of medication a lot of it is cause of a lack of fathers in the home but that that's my personal thoughts

Social/cultural contagion. People perceive that they can get noticed/send some kind of "message" by doing this, in a way that nothing else can really allow them to. They aren't entirely wrong. We all know who Brenton Tarrant was (well, is, I guess he's still alive in prison) and why he murdered a bunch of Muslims. So we have modern mass media to thank for that.

Personally, seeing all these shooters with antidepressant scripts does make me think there's a link. Correlation doesn't equal causation, yeah, but you can't tell me altering someone's brain chemistry won't have side effects.

We barely know how the brain works and how these pills can alter someone's personality. These were deeply troubled individuals, but it's also a very American phenomenon. I wouldn't be surprised at all if SSRIs were the tipping point for a lot of these people.

It's obviously not just the drugs causing these problems. Someone in the conspiracy thread talked about Taxi Driver being an MKUltra leftover and it got my noggin joggin. There's all this vigilante media in the US, maybe SSRIs are useful in programming individuals into mass shooters?

I don't think they're the main cause, but I don't think they're very helpful either. I'm in the process of cutting off prozac, and any good therapist/physician will tell you that for what SSRIs are meant to treat, pills are a small part of overcoming your problems. I think a lot of people end up being suicidal/homicidal/generally shitty on antidepressants because they assume the pills are a magic cure. They'll take them and instantly feel better, never having to put any effort into trying to improve themselves. When that inevitably fails, they end up being worse-off out of frustration, coupled with the negative side effects SSRIs can bring - especially in longterm usage. Look at how many lolcows are on any number of SSRIs similar.

Women are prescribed SSRIs more frequently than men, but they don’t cause nearly as many mass shootings.

These are very widely prescribed medications. It’s like blaming shootings on video games. Shooters all played vidya growing up but so did most normal people born in the past 40 years. It’s a common experience shooters happen to share, along with all of the people who didn’t shoot anyone.

nah it's ridiculously easy to get prescriptions for psych drugs as a normal person
mental problems are overdiagnosed to a ridiculous degree, basically if you ever have any kind of difficulty in your life, you can probably leverage it into a depression diagnosis and collect ssri pills by the truckload
Oh my word this is very true. You can get anything you want if you just do a bit of groundwork and know the right symptoms beforehand. Doctors love to prescribe drugs.
