I listened to the josh/dsp convo and I don't really understand where people are coming from when they say DSP "defended" this guy. Like josh said in the mati after, Dsp probably just sees it as "$20 is $20" and honestly wouldn't it be better that a guy like derich funnels all of his money into DSP's WWE gacha whatevers? As it was pointed out in the "interview" it's not expected for DSP to go over the history of every user. However, Derich's history was brought to Phil with plenty of evidence. Even if it's not his duty to police everyone, it's a little different if (using your neighbor analogy) every other neighbor on the block told you that the one neighbor is a pedo along with showing you an arrest record. You didn't ask for it but now you have the reality to deal with.
In Phil's own words, people had been telling him for two years. Most of them were probably detractors, sure. That doesn't mean they weren't right. Even Brian, the black dude Phil played games with told Phil about Derich (according to his tweet, I'm not sure if it was in writing when he actually delivered the news).
I don't agree with your logic if he's in Phil's chat he's not offending. Phil doesn't stream 24 hours a day and Derich does manage to get around town.

Pure crackpot theory about DSP defending Derich. This is based on the following predicates:

• Derich and DSP does not have a transactional relationship as far as we know. Save for that one time with the mom's credit card contributions, Derich has actually supported very little financially. I doubt DSP also values his thumbnail and art and various stream contributions that much.
• Derich and DSP communicate regularly behind the scenes as DSP has mentioned emails between them. "Yeah Derich I saw your email about your vacation etc etc"
• DSP has on multiple occasions mistakenly called Jasper as Derich, and we know he refers to Jasper as his catson/"my non-human child"

I don't fully buy the I don't want to be someone who polices my viewers' personal lives coming from someone who asked for a government ID picture as collateral to be unbanned. I think DSP does unironically consider himself as a father figure to Derich and I believe their e-mails would prove that if it ever got out. I think we'd see a lot of prestream style life advice from DSP and we know Derich is happy to talk about most every single random thing he can think of. Maybe for Phil, Derich was someone who looked up to him and respected his opinions fully and someone who actually needed a father figure in his life too. We can infer that to some degree Derich is the disappointing child considering he comes from what appears to be a traditional Chinese household, one that would probably not approve of his proclivities and lack of notable achievements in life. Maybe that's why he's so cagey about the Null/KC pressure, and why he tried so hard to weasel out of it, and why he shut down any mentions about it moving forward.

I have a feeling they "communicate" via email the same way they do in chat. Derich sends Phil something, and Phil acknowledges he has seen it without really paying any attention at all to what Derich is saying. While Phil didn't ban Derich during all that time, it wasn't like he was openly embracing Derich either. He largely tried to ignore him and while he wasn't overly stern about it, he did tell him off a few times for spamming the chat. While it's always good to take what Phil says with a grain of salt, I'm willing to believe he was telling the truth when he said he didn't want to ban Derich simply because he didn't want the detractors to be right.

But I don't think he actually liked Derich, I'd even go so far as to say Derich got on his nerves and annoyed him waaay more than Derich ever made Phil happy.
