I said this in the telegram chat, but it does need repeating, If cloudflare actually does this, it sets a precedent whereby any small business in the world can be effectively destroyed anonymously by a disgruntled group of mildly tech literate arseholes; effectively without recourse. He mentioned 'threat to human life' in the absurd whinge post he did, but the reality is that a threat to your livelihood is also a threat to your life; but merely one by inches rather than miles. In the modern world, access to the internet is defacto access to the financial system, and without that access you cannot function in a professional manner. This is - and forgive whatever hyperbole you might find in this statement - actual economic terrorism. It is an attack on the livelihood of an individual to invoke fear in order to cause a change in action.

Cloudflare is complicit in enabling this; and if they keep it going will be effectively circling the wagons around large corporate interests like Facebook and Amazon that are inured against attacks like these; and leaving the smaller organisations and individuals who are reliant on 3rd party services to exist, to be attacked by what are effectively gaggles of mentally ill perverts. Perverts whose actions are so antithetical to what 99% of the planet sees as good; that the second any sliver of sunlight is shone on them, they shrivel up and wither away because of how vile they actually are.

Having the site data be immune to loss is worth having a filter that pleases the Russian authorities or Serbian ones.

Can cloudflare seize the .net domain?

In theory? Yes, they are the registrar and current DNS host of the domain, they have access to do whatever they want with it. In practice though, the domain name is literally by law property of Josh (or probably more specifically Lolcow LLC) and I've never heard of a .com/.net/.org being seized without a court order. While they have the theoretical capability of hijacking the domain, it would probably be illegal to do so in a pretty clear-cut way.

I just don't understand why one bad egg forces Cloudflare to drop service, especially when the post had already been removed by mods. You wouldn't close an elementary school classroom because one kid failed standardized testing. Hell, Twitter is still running at full steam and a good portion of the shit I've seen there is absolute garbage.
