I'm not a lawyer and I'm also a little retarded, but my understanding of this conflict is that it's not for monetary reparations other than Xander/Faith receiving backpayment for child support and Ralph losing his parental rights.
I remember this option was presented years ago but Ralph's pride couldn't deal with the taking of an L so he proceeded to pay tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees and child support to own the aylawgs. I think he visited Xander half a dozen times at most? He's spent less than a week total with his son. If he genuinely cared about him, he'd sign away his rights. That doesn't make him any less of a blood relative, it just confirms that Ralph is absolved of any kind of responsibility.
