I think the surprising part was that the Vickers were married for twenty years. I think Arianna was lulled into complacency, depression and distracted by too many kids while Matt undertook some wild ass fraudulent BS to keep all his plates spinning. She probably felt very trapped since she had no job, 4 children and a teen mom to deal with. Digging a pit via Emotional eating, depression and psych drugs only let Matt dig his retard hole ever deeper since she was checked out and probably just went along with whatever BS to avoid another fight.

If we are being honest, this is all Textbook 101 stuff when it comes to family dysfunction. Divorce, unhealthy family dynamics, marital affairs, custody battles, financial issues, weaponization of claims that may or may not have happened. It is a formula and blueprint that comes with the territory, those who don't fall victim to it tend more to be an exception rather than a rule.
It is tough in this case because we don't really have a firm picture on what the Vickers family were like pre-gunt. It is obvious that this family has issues, starting with them all having the worst personalities imaginable. Especially ones to handle a crisis such as what happened with Faith. But a lot of dysfunctional units also don't just implode unless they are given a reason to do.

They definitely were a family that were marred by unhealthy behavior and were severely unstable. I am just more curious about what the actual marriage was like prior to the introduction of Ralph to their lives. Were the already at the point that divorce was inevitable, or would they have continued on in their misery had Ralph entered their lives with more bullshit to dump on their lamps?
