The primary benefit of joining MENSA is the networking possibilities, which is itself a tacit admission that you've failed to network properly absent a MENSA membership. You also have to pay an annual fee to join and remain a member. Unless you have the specific problem of needing additional networking opportunities for which this is the solution, then you're basically buying validation of your own intelligence, which is remarkably unintelligent behavior.

One Time I was flying to Reno for work, im sitting in the airport and I look over and see the one and only Neil Breen, I say hi and strike up a convo. Apparently he paid to be a guest of honor at a Mensa convention and was on the same flight. In fact the entire flight was booked by Mensa people going to this conference.

I was never more assured I was going to die in a plane crash because God could not pass up such a funny headline as "Mensa wiped out all members took the same flight"

I hate it, but I recognize the value of networking.

HOWEVER. You're giving this person too much credit. Being part of an association facilitates networking.

The whole point of networking is to connect with people you can bring value to or can bring you value.

This guy is a massive liability. He brings nothing.

This is pure vanity.

They'll let anyone it, it seems.
It does prove that Max has a clearly above-average level of intelligence. So, now, instead of calling him a dumb retard, sneeders must resort to calling him a narcissist who seeks validation... Well, no shit.

It doesn't. It proves that he can score high on an intelligence test. Intelligence tests, like any kind of test, can be studied for, even gamed. Plenty of people do it all the time to prove something or grant themselves credibility when they otherwise have none. See: Chris Langan.

I would imagine a plurality of KF users could qualify. Maybe not me, but some people.

NGL, only person I've ever known to get into MENSA was my mom, back in the 90s when it was something you'd be worthy of bragging about. I genuinely didn't believe anyone in the modern era would ever flash "I'm in Mensa" because it's as easy as passing an IQ test and scoring high, which let's be real, IQ tests are the most retarded way to grade the measure of someone's actual intellect.
