Careercow Max Landis

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
if you notice he doesn't even have any "friends" to help him with his internet videos anymore. look how many people he got to help with Death of Superman vs his latest output. He couldn't even hire people/use friends.
I noticed as well. Which just makes the content he now makes even more cringe. I think it's either he's just cheap (and I'm biting my tongue from making yet another Jewish joke) or paying actors would be acknowledging his failure and him being cut off from Hollywood. It's kind of like an incel who refuses to pay for a hooker or do any self improvement but still bitches about being a virgin with rage.

thats why i brought up friends, even relatives. i'm sure boomers would at least click on an article about "you wouldn't believe what John Landis and his family are doing now" and the clips of him and papa and mama doing lines would be worth at least one view. You're right about the failure stuff but this is one of those times you should lean into it. Literally like Armie hammer getting caught liking porn tweets. He leaned into being a failed major movie star and was able to rebuild himself as some sort of indie darling "no i'm not a rich LA trust fund douche, i'm self aware and love mocking those types. hollywould couldn't understand being a tall white male who's also into socialism and alternative sexualities and satire" Armie was able to fake his way into being at least a working character actor before the canceling, it was actually sort of perfect. being the oblivious or evil white dude would have paid dividends in a DEI world. Plenty of actors were able to take their career downturns in stride and end up being more on top than they ever where, Max just doesn't have the emotional maturity to do that. Of course if Max had the ability to fake that humility or know when the jig is up he probably would have fucked off by now. Armie was already working at a hotel by the time he got dropped by his agent. Max is investing way too much time and effort for his little projects seen by almost no one.

I stopped reading after the second set of synposes because they're just so fucking bad and I doubt they get better, but of those, "Slut" was the most likely to get Max burned at the stake and "Trust the Police" was the one with the least terrible story, although no studio would ever go for that title in this day and age. Making Mario a lawyer in his Super Mario World treatment makes no fucking sense and reeks of the classic braindead Hollywood producer who changes things for no fucking reason but gets his way regardless. Why can't Mario just be a plumber? How does him being a lawyer benefit the story in any way? Max cannot answer these questions because he has shit for brains and literally spends no time reflecting on his retarded treatments. The "m1nd" series also sounds super fucking retarded, even by capeshit standards. He had one whiff of success with that movie he wrote about telekinetics and got a big ego.

So not to PL but I worked in this industry for a while and have heard Max pitch and it's not hard to see why he was successful for a time. He's good in the room. He's got weird chaotic energy and has some unique and interesting angles to things.

Take it for what it's worth, screenwriting is an extremely hard and competitive environment and while he did have a leg up growing up in the world, we weren't sitting around saying "It's John Landis' kid, we've gotta buy his shitty script."

He is able to deliver on high-concept ideas and some in contained, low-budget ways (I thought Deeper and Higher were good.)

Unfortunately, like most Hollywood children, he's a giant faggot. But I estimate he prob made $15M+ during his young career with spec sales, assignment work and uncredited script doctor work.

Easy now to say he's a hack but he did have a lot of recognition and respect for his ability to quickly deliver solid scripts at a high clip.

I read an interview with Carrie Fisher -who worked as an uncredited script doctor for years- and she was complaining that the studios don't really pay script doctors anymore. She was saying that the studio basically wants you to contribute ideas/thoughts for free. Can you comment on that? I imagine it to be extremely cut throat.

Like anything, there's a spectrum. That's interesting. I've been away from that world for 5-6 years and I'm sure shit has changed a lot. They will absolutely get young or not well-established writers to work for very little. They want you to contribute ideas as in "pitch me how you'd fix this script and we'll see if we want to hire you or not" or "write this idea we have on spec and maybe we'll buy it."

If you're a big deal script doctor you are (or were at that time) fucking raking it. Guys like Tony Gilroy were getting $250k+ for a week of work.

That's how I figured it actually worked so as to prevent an asshole from getting the job and contributing a handful of changes at the most ala Joss Whedon working on Water World. I think Carrie Fisher was pissed that it wasn't easy money for her anymore.

I have nothing to add except this t-shirt:

The messenger is imperfect, but it's not like that is new; the point is that Landis has benefitted from connections to cover up numerous assaults, sexual assaults, and generally being such an enormous douchebag that, were it not for his nepo-baby status and living in a dystopian bugman hellscape, he would have been dragged to death behind a '72 Ford F-250 long ago.

How would you describe her voice, it's perfect for this?
I don't know what it's called, it isn't actually monotone but I hear it a lot on videos -- and there's a very high register also.
There's a movie called In a World about a woman doing V.O. work encountering women who have L.A. babyvoice -- it's not quite there, but close.
