He was still able to make Coming To America with Eddie Murphy and then Beverly Hills Cop 3. So it wasn't like the entirety of Hollywood shunned him.

It seems like John burned a lot of bridges throughout his career, especially in regards to how much of an asshole he was following the entire Twilight Zone incident. I'm more surprised that Max managed to get any work in the industry given who his father was.

More like he did a couple of box office bombs in a row and he was getting old. Max still got his foot in the door because of his daddy. His first job was writing his dad's episode of Masters of Horror.
