MCDONALD'S is flipping its famous Golden Arches sign over to make a powerful statement.

The fast food giant is turning the giant M sign on its head to become a W today - and there's a very worthy reason.

In a world first, the Big Mac chain is turning its logo into a symbol for International Women's Day.

A branch in Lynwood, California, switched it up in "celebration of women everywhere."

On Thursday, McDonald's has vowed to switch the logo on its Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for the cause.

McDonald's Chief Diversity Officer Wendy Lewis said: "In celebration of women everywhere, and for the first time in our brand history, we flipped our iconic arches for International Women's Day in honor of the extraordinary accomplishments of women everywhere and especially in our restaurants.

"From restaurant crew and management to our C-suite of senior leadership, women play invaluable roles at all levels and together with our independent franchise owners we're committed to their success."

International Women's Day celebrates the achievements of women, as well as acting as a catalyst for change when it comes to gender equality.

The theme of this year's International Women's Day is #PressforProgress.

The Gender Pay Gap still exists in the UK where women earn up to 14% less than men. In January 2018, Ladbrokes, EasyJet and Virgin Money revealed pay gaps of over 15 per cent in favour of men.

It has been observed for over 100 years and is now marked around the world.

This is not the first time McDonald's has moved into social commentary, having recently announced it is ditching foam cups to become more environmentally friendly.

It comes after craft beers firm BrewDog released a "cheaper beer for girls" intending to highlight the gender pay gap - but in a stunt that massively backfired.

The gaffe has lead to the Pink IPA term trending on social media - especially after one Brewdog's social media posts sarcastically said "pink and glitter" is for girls.

Are we sure this isn’t a photoshop/fake news? Because I’m pretty sure those signs are not made in such a way to make flipping the “M” feasible unless you scrapped the sign entirely and replaced it with a new one.

A fuckton of franchisees are going to be pissed if they have to pay to have this done.

I don't know, but I actually like that. It's really cuntish.
 
A bit strange that they randomly decide "Hey, our logo is a big M, which stands for icky yucky sexist men, the letter upside down looks like a W, and W stands for women. Why don't we completely deconstruct our signs just so that we can make our female costumers feel engaged"

I saw this last night before I went to bed. And honestly I also thought it was a joke at first.

McDonald's is just what women need to feel empowered. The prospects of a dead end job asking people if they want fries with that and a waistline expanded at the courtesy of Big Macs and supersize shakes.

So they had to have workmen come out to a stupid job like this to turn over a giant "M"? Imagine you come home from work, your wife asks you how your day went and you say that you turned an "M" into a "W" for some "holiday" no one actually cares about.

Does anyone outside of feminists actually celebrate Women's Day? I remember last year I was looking through some tag on Tumblr for something and I saw a post about buying Women's Day gifts. It's not Christmas. I'd forget it exists if people didn't squawk about it every year.

It's not that I see it as a bad thing at all. It's just that in the current year it's all about virtue signalling. So any merit it has gets drowned out by "muh wage gap" and "muh misogyny".

I don't see anyone sperging out. I do see people mocking a globalist mega corporation virtue signaling in the most blatantly transparent manner possible while simultaneously paying women 7.25 an hour. If you want to call that "supporting women" then alright I guess.
 
Nice try McDonalds (sorry, WackDonalds), women have a higher obesity rate than men, which in part must be from eating your food. Anyone have any stats on percentage of female McDs workers vs male McDs workers? If there's more women than men who work for McDs, then there's your gender pay gap. Well, maybe more Chief Diversity Officer positions will help end the pay gap and put those women's studies graduates to work, right?
Outside of corporate HQ I doubt it. McDonalds franchises tons of its stores, and they are such high turnover, the % of male and female workers could differ vastly between just months.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 60% of "Combined food preparation and service workers, including fast food" are women. Given that McDonalds is the Ur fast food joint, I wouldn't imagine their internal stats to deviate much from that figure.
