@Woke Blue Muttlema
Can't quote due to post length but thanks for the run down.
Kind of disappointed about all of this because I can recall watching some of the old Hulk cartoon and She Hulk being one of the better parts of that.
Is really love searching the best plot you can give to a female character in the 21st century? After all the first thing stated in the synopsis is that she is single and the trailer makes it abundantly clear that will be a strong point. I'm not saying is bad, I'm saying is generic and I'm almost completely sure the people behind this are the types to scream sexism at anything they don't like.
Are the people involved with the failed Wonder Woman tv series connected to this? Because it sounds very familiar.

Jameela Jamil as Titania...dear Lord no.

I would have quite liked a Cloak and Dagger cameo in this. I think they'd have been a nice fit to approach to be an open super lawyer. But off that summary I hope they steer clear.

Too much tween cringe in the recent episode, and Nakia often feels too much like the writers' mouthpiece. Kamala learning to use her powers and still not being great at it (plus being a bit too showboat-y) was good. Plus, they're building up the mystery around her family and powers pretty well.

I am tempted to pirate Ms Marvel but how much Arab shit is in it? Is it just blah blah blah like Team America or is it like Islam is a religion of peace meanwhile we kill gays. I just don't want a lecture from a fucking child.

Wandavision really was a gem and Disney is really trying to replicate that but isn't getting the memo. I just want She Hulk to be fucking good but I have doubts.

Well she's Pakistani and her friend Nakia is Persian... so not much "Arab shit" so far. But as regards Islam, etc. It's a different culture so if you're expecting there to not be muslim stuff in it you're completely out of luck. They're just portrayed as regular people. Like most Muslims are. Her parents are pretty conservative, her brother is very religious. They go to the Mosque.

It's not extreme sanitisation just because the Imam hasn't ranted out homosexuality, yet. But sure, it's not showing many negatives of Islam, either. Her father is fun and nice and cares about her. He hasn't locked her in a room and taken her phone away from her for being seen with a White boy yet as happened to Pakistani girls I knew when I was young. Her brother hasn't gone out and beaten up a Hindu because "they worship their private parts" as some similarly religious Muslims I encountered did.

But it's a kid's show. It's not doing a critique of Islam if that's what you're looking for. I suspect you'll encounter some negative muslim characters as the show goes on. But if the show was set in the Amish community or old school Northern Ireland, it'd be the same - an ever present cultural backdrop to the characters. This one just happens to be Pakistani. It's not hitting you over the head with anything and the White characters aren't roving stereotypes who hate the main character for her race. On a Woke scale of 1-10, it's maybe a 3.

It's really good anyway. You should try it.

The mosque is presented as imperfect and the general hypocrisy of sons being treated better in families than the daughters is pretty obvious. They also make mention of mosques etc. being on FBI watch-lists.

Through how many shows do you see actually critique mosques like that in general.

It could be alot worse. The show isn't too bad to be honselt and even the few woke moments don't ruin the story for me

It's you can make it through the first episodes peak cringe dick sucking of Captain Marvel, they're isn't anything worse in the episode. Not watched episode 2 yet. It very much feels like it's made for a younger female audience, than the typically much more general appeal, but I'm actually ok with that. I wish they'd do more niche stuff with the MCU. Dr Strange blew wherever it was trying to be a big CGI spectacle (attack on Karmatage), and was great doing horror(Male alt universe character deaths, chase through the tunnels, dream walking).

I feel like the show isn't for me, but it's not awful either. Ms Marvel always was a weird spot of Marvel comics downfall. She was as forced as the likes of Jane Foster Thor or Ironheart, but she always felt like she was a bit better thought out. I was reminded of Jaime Reyes Blue Bettle introduction while reading it, even if rushed and nowhere near as good. I hate how forced she is, but don't think she's an awful character. She'd of been fine as a Young Avengers ensemble starting out, instead of being forced as a headliner. The actress does a good job portraying a believable character too, she reminds me very much of a high school aged cousin of mine.

Not going to say it's great either, as I have watched Stargirl and Ms Marvel is no where near as good.

To be fair, that's all from Kamala's point of view. And her idolizing Captain Marvel is a central element of her character and integral to the plot. At least to begin with.

The comic started off fine. I think it got worse and more preachy later on. There's nothing inherently Woke about a character being a muslim. Like I noticed in the first couple of episodes, there's very little "White person bad" in it.

Almost nothing compares to Star Girl in terms of Superhero TV shows. Doom Patrol and S1/S2 Young Justice. I guess some of the DCAU stuff if you're old.

S1 Stargirl is superb and S2 is nearly as good. I'm enjoying Ms. Marvel a lot though, and really hoping it doesn't go downhill / Woke.

I would rather a bit more superhero-ing than exploration of Muslim culture, but to the show's credit the showrunner and writers clearly have their own vision and are pretty confidently following it.

Watched the first episode of Ms. Marvel and I am in awe of Disney+'s ability to consistently top the shittiness of the previous Disney+ series. Random thoughts:

-Kammala is a huge bitch. She's selfish, pissy, whiny and demanding, and is rude to her family and friends. She has zero redeeming qualities as a character. Its not the least bit surprising that Carol Danvers is her role model.
-There's a lot of manufactured drama. Kammala's guidance counselor tells her that she needs to stop DRAWING and take her life seriously. In what fucking world is that a real conversation a guidance counselor has had with a student? Also, let's be real here for a moment. Kammala is a muslim girl. Her parent's are going to arrange a marriage with some doctor from the old country and marry her off by age 20. Who gives a shit if she likes to draw because in the real world her job will be to be a full time mother and wife.
-Kammala's mother is bipolar or something because holy fuck she goes from wacky zany antics to crying about how awful her daughter is in literally every scene. I get it, Kammala is awful, but I'm getting whiplash from the mood swings.
-Kammala's boyfriend is a cuck and indulges his fat muslim friend way too much. You can do so much better, my man.
-I can't tell if the show understands that the pretty white girl is the sympathetic one here. Kammala is mean to her for no reason (besides the fact that the girl is thin, pretty and blonde and she's not).

Maybe I'm rushing to judgment. Maybe the show's writers are intentionally writing Kammala to be an unlikable bitch so they show her grow into a hero over the course of the series. But I doubt it.

Ms.Marvel was decent this week. The pacing was really off though, especially with more than half of it taken up on the flashback to partition and then the final third was fairly rushed. If I had to deem any episode the "weakest" it would probably be this one, but that's relative since I've liked them all. I imagine others will be more critical given we've only got the finale left though and it seems like DODC is the "final villain".

I can understand using the flashback to flesh out Aisha but the whole time travel bit seemed completely pointless. Also, I don't think we needed a third love interest for Kamala.

Finale coming up in a few days. We'll see if it pulls off a good ending or if it'll fumble it like Loki and Moon Knight.
