I didn't really see Red Dagger as a love interest, but I guess they're gonna drag out the will they/won't they with Bruno as long as possible regardless.

i dunno, there were a few scenes of them looking longingly at each other in episode 4 (i think the beach scene in particular sticks out)

So I said I wasn't gonna bother after the first episode but I head a lot of good stuff from people who didn't know about/like the character, coming back saying they were digging it, so I went back and was surprised they dropped her being as "snarky" as the first episode, which was annoying as shit. Between her acting like she does in the book and the emphasis on the family, and Kamran and all that shit and I had changed my mind and thought it was super solid.

Then comes the Pakistan and the "We're genies or are we wink wink" shit, and it becomes apparent at no point will these character be doing any "street level" shenanigans, and these boring bastards I (and from the looks of it nobody else) cares about will be the main focus of the remainder of the series, which is what? One more episode now? And this goes immediately into Captain marvel 2, so she's getting bumped straight up the roster, skipping the Spider-Man-ish phase entirely. Woof.

If this thing is getting saved by anything it's because the actress is so good at playing that character. But trying to adapt her by gutting everything that made anyone care about that first run of books was beyond retarded.

Ms.Marvel just wrapped up. While I don't think they should've included the Clandestines (since they're just kind of here and gone again and it damages the pacing), I thought the overall package was fairly good. Its strengths are the family aspect and thankfully that is consistent throughout. The power change took a bit to get used to and is obviously to help Kamala fit in with Carol and Monica, but they still managed to fit the embiggen stuff in at the end (though her limbs don't actually grow, it's the crystal formations that stretch) so that's a plus.

Then there's the whole mutation thing that Bruno mentioned. Don't think I didn't notice that 90's X-Men music sting. I guess they're just not going with the Inhumans for now.

Overall, the series was saved by the characters and the cast, especially Iman Vellani, because the plot was really tepid. There's like no real rise or fall in action and was just really flat in general, feeling like it barely went anywhere. Definitely would've just preferred Kamala doing some street level super hero stuff.

Also, seemed like a completely random place to introduce mutants.

Oh yeah, if any of these actors weren't as good, this would have been quite bad. They really hit a home run with the casting because they sure as shit didn't have a lot else to work with.

That raises the question of like, are the Inhumans still a thing? Obviously Black Bolt was in Dr Strange 2 but I think there's a nonzero chance that the Inhuman Royal Family gets retconned as a mutant offshoot. After all it IS kinda silly to have two groups of humans with hereditary superpowers whose abilities are the result of ancient alien genetic engineering, whose only real difference is that one group requires an external catalyst to kickstart their abilities, whereas the other develops them naturally as they age.

Looking back on it, I'm surprised they didn't use the Celestial Emergence at the end of the Eternals to do something similar to the Terrigen Mist being released on Earth -- i.e. some sort of power being unleashed that caused transformations across the world. It would've allowed them to introduce and use the ton of characters created by that event in the comics, and it would've actually given some importance to that otherwise shitty and completely forgettable movie.

Apparently there’s rumored to be some clarification on the status of Inhumans in The Marvels but right now it’s up in the air, especially with all the bad blood involved. A Lockjaw cameo was even shot down.

I do agree with an above post stating how this was weird place to introduce mutants and I kind of hate how it dominates this show’s discussion in the media.

I think she's actually wrong, because in the books her brother has a green version of the same powers they gave her in the show, and I have to check but I'm 90% sure his show up before this comic was out.

I know Disney+ has a lot of people who'll watch it just because it's there, but you'd think the economic situation would have gotten Disney to return to established IPs rather than double down on diversity with the exception of the fujoshi bait
