I like meat pies. Recently I tried a kind of Latin American type of meat pie called empanada and found it very palatable, preferably with chicken inside but ones with beef are ok too.

I once had an empanada place next to where I worked with 50+ kinds of empanada. Most of them were great. One of my favorites was just beef, potatoes, and jalapenos with some monster spice blend.

I highly prefer the pies with meat in them to the sticky gross sugar filled ones in general, unless it's pumpkin or sweet potato pie because that's just like the thing it's based on mixed with some other stuff.
Shepards pie is pretty great, though I have no clue why it's called that when it involves ground beef. always felt weird to me.
Chicken pot pie is also really good. I tend to get these miniature microwavable ones that are actually really fucking tasty.

Do store-bought/microwavable ones count? Those were pretty good on slower days.

I also love chicken empanadas.

But this is my favorite variety of meat pie. My aunt makes it every Easter, though I will attempt to make a smaller batch for myself.

Papa and yuca rellenas are my preferred form of meat-in-starch.

I grew up and live in the South where meat is served regularly and almost never in a pie (chicken pot pies sometimes but that's either homemade, fast food, or frozen). I went to Michigan several years ago and tried a pasty, it was alright.

Down here, though "pasties" refers to the things strippers put on their nipples (usually in accordance to regulations regarding nudity) and not foodstuffs.

Chicken pot pies are weird. The gravy type sauce they use to smother all the chicken and vegetables inside the pie is too rich for me.

Meat pie "pasty" is pronounced differently than nipple cover "pasty." The first is pronounced "PAA-stee" and the latter is pronounced "PAY-stee."
I had a few when I was staying with friends in the U.P., they were all right but they were always too dry for my taste. I'm used to moister meat pies like chicken pot pie and shepard's pie.

Yeah, I did learn the different pronunciation for it there but it was a little weird to see a restaurant advertising "pasties". If I wanted meat in bread, though, here it's sandwiches, burgers, and tacos.

I am pleased that meat pies seem to have made their way over to American restaurants in the last few years. Curry pies are probably my favorite drunk food.

I like them fresh, whatever they are. Was in Atlanta and there was a pie shop for meat pies that had a beef and mushroom pie with stout added that was wonderful.

I hate any pot pie that has been frozen with potatoes in it. The texture of the potatoes makes me gag.

Steak and Kidney, Cheese Bacon and Beef... Oh my gooood

Pasties are so much better.
