Mechanical Keyboard Autism Thread - Because Cherry MX switches get you laid.

thanks baby darlings
I was in the same boat as you. Wanting a good mech keyboard and looking at Razers/Corsairs....but then I realized I don't need the gamerz shit. Then I was like wait, surely there's better made boards out there.

Now I'm with a Ducky Shine 7 with blue switches and loving every moment of it.

they look good im gonna probably save some side cash for the One 2 with red switches

what do you recommend to be a good alternative to my ornata chroma? I'm not a programmer or a super gaymer I just like a fast and clicky keyboard thats reliable
If you're not entirely hung up on needing Cherry MX switches, the Logitech Romer-G keyboards are pretty decent. I have a G413 as my daily driver; it looks pretty classy, the LEDs are subtle (white only), and it has a solid feel for both gaming and productivity.

One potential downside is that Romer-G switches have slightly less travel than Cherry MX switches. That, and you miss out on all the aftermarket keycap goodness of Cherry MX switches. These are all personal preferences though.

Or you could just get a Ducky, which would be my choice if I wanted something a bit more gamercentric.

Important to note that switches are just part of the equation. Plate, stabilizers and caps are also a big factor in the sound. That's where Ducky really shines BA DUM TISHHHH imo.

Ducky is always a solid choice. The most economic option is just getting any board with Gaterons. If a non keyboard autist asked me what to get I would always recommend a chink board in the format of their choice. I'm using an Anne Pro 2 right now which is basically a poor mans Ducky with arguably superior switch options. There is even an option to flash QMK if I cared about that level of customization.

Would love to hear some more opinions on hotswap boards. Seems like a really good idea on paper. Being able to replace individual switches without a soldering iron should boost longevity to infinite unless you have a major spill that fucks up the internals.

Browns are TRASH I can't even FEEL the tactile BUMP and the SOUND PROFILE is so God damned MUSHY you have to fucking go to MASSDROP and wait for 8 fucking YEARS after pre-ordering the zeelios burnt navy translucent blue box panda ROYALS then de-solder them and replace the base with royal black SPRINGS and LUBE them up with hg7364 if you USE hg7363 you're a FUCKING IDIOT I literally can't type on anything ELSE because everything else is FUCKING TRASH and RGB is for fucking KIDS and I'm a fucking ADULT that collects KEYBOARDS.

Hey now, don't forget pointless 3d keycaps or whatever they're called.

Edit - Artisans! Oh man, how could I forget that?

After using the Cherry G80-1800 I bought earlier in this thread for a while pretty intensely I feel safe to say that the keycaps that come with it are probably PBT and google seems to support me on this too. Not bad for the price at all.

Who the fuck gets a keyboard without a number pad? Fucking disgusting.

In my case, I have no choice - my desk's keyboard tray isnt wide enough for both a mouse and a full keyboard. So I have to use a numpad less model.

Some of us have valid excuses. If I had a non shit desk (dont have the space), I would toss this numpad-less mechanical in a heartbeat.

I think TKLs are more ergonomic, honestly.

Unless you have something like a data entry job, that is.

Honestly, the only key I use on the numpad is the enter key, I just smash it like a caveman.

sorry to revive but update on my ducky

at first, the keys felt like they had too little resistance and got pushed too easy but after about a week of playing around with it I've gotten into a good groove with it and I can honestly say its the best keyboard I've ever had

the click and feel are far superior to my razer and the SWITCHES BABY I've got so much poonani just by mentioning I use Cherry MX switches

9/10 needs more switches

IBM Ms and Fs are Rubber Domes too, but like Topres are given the honorary title of MK.

A vast majority (maybe even all other) rubber domes have nothing of Ms, Fs, or Topres.
I know this is ancient but I'm an autistic faggot and this is wrong!
Membrane ≠ Rubber dome
Model M keyboards use membranes to sense keypresses, but there are no rubber domes, it uses a completely different mechanism to press down on the membranes.
Model F has neither membranes nor rubber domes, it has basically the same mechanism as the Model M, but a circuit board that detects changes in capacitance instead of membranes.
Topre does have rubber domes, but unlike most rubber dome keyboards it uses a capacitive sensing PCB like the Model F, not membranes.
