Those who know what to look for don't care, those who don't know wont notice. It's good all around in this day and age. Just don't fuss with it. My only gripe with carry methods is that shoulder rigs often pull on your shirt and makes you look like a bum.
Random piece of advice for any and all, do not take a nap in a chair while wearing a shoulder rig. Waking up after sleeping on your gun hurts like a motherfucker.
Like I said, it's probably me being overly self-conscious. I live in a conservative area, so I've seen open carriers shopping at our store from time-to-time. The laws here permit conceal carrying if I have so much as a driver's license, so I'm not going to run into any legal trouble either.
My non work EDC is a Springfield Echelon, and while im working, due to the nature of my work(being a little too mobile for an iwb) I pocket a bodyguard 2.0, and I adore the thing. I definitely don't feel unarmed with it. When you're just out and about yeah printing isn't an issue, but when you gotta mobile and do shit like heavy lifting, crawling, ladders etc it can become a problem, especially in a non friendly workplace.
I'm two days into carrying my 642 at work, and it doesn't impede me in any way. Mine is the kind of job where I might have to do the kind of activities you mentioned. Haven't tried my Glock for the reasons mentioned so far.

Sounds like a waste, as the whole point of the suppressor is to slow down the gases leaving the bore, so I don't know if there'd be any energy left in the gas that it'd counteract recoil when channeled through a brake or a port.

I'm in the Confederate States of America, where BooRay is a common name and they complain about the goddamn yankees still, so the gun laws are do whatever you want as long as you are white. It's a good hide away for when the next apocalypse happens, so definitely need a fully functional rifle that can be taken to the range regularly. Thank you for mentioning the Krag–Jørgensen rifle, that will be exactly what I seek out.
Super if your state side it's very easy to get demilled things krags if you don't mind sportsrized (cut stock to shed weight) they aren't too pricey.
Be very careful on both pricing and condition. Military Surplus in general is rife with overpriced and worn-out guns.
.30-40 is very expensive, about $80 for 20 rounds.
