Honestly, save up another $100 and get a used glock. Or check the trade in/bargain bin at your LGS, if they have one. There are some fucking KILLER deals in there sometimes. There is a particular retard gun I didn't know existed till I walked in the other day to get my girl some 300blk. It's a Magnum Research Mini Desert eagle in 380 with 3 mags for around $300. Getting it next month. Didn't know I wanted the little retard till I dumped it in my boot and couldn't feel it, getting it instead of the Makarov. Don't buy retard guns unless you wanna learn gunsmithing and sourcing parts.
If you're new to shooting, have a friend teach you and go with you. If you're poor and starting out, don't get stuck with a gun you hate. See if any ranges have the guns for rent first, use those. See if you even like it before you dump the money. If you aren't practiced, I'd get something small and heavy. Like an S&w 38spl. If you're not used to shooting, you're gonna scare yourself with hot rounds in a plastic gun, which will make you practice way less, which is an endless loop of not great.
And lastly, make sure it is a well known, name brand. If you're just starting out, you don't wanna have to deal with scouring 2015 forums to see if anyone has a line on a part or a schematic for a gun half the world doesn't even know exists.
