I want a gun but am worried I’ll shoot myself one day. Any suggestions?

Keep it in a locked safe, and the bullets in an inaccessible location. Most suicide deaths from guns occur because it seems like a quick solution. Similar thoughts occur with other suicide methods, where the most effective deterrent is making it difficult or lengthy to actually pull off, giving you more time to become clear headed.

Guns are fun, but need to be respected for sure. If this seems like too much of a risk for you, don't risk it. You can have fun with a buddies gun, or rent one at a cool range. Guns can be enjoyed without bullets even, with laser training systems for stuff like quick draw and bullseye training. Lots of people don't even shoot their guns, they just build them because they are like legos when you get to AR platform builds.

So whatever capacity you end up interacting with guns, welcome to the Mega Rad Gun Thread :)
Good advice here already. I was in a pretty dark spot in 2019 and getting into shooting was what ended up helping me. It's a fantastic adrenaline dump and it got me out of the "go to work and deal with my shithead boss, go home and sleep to do the same tomorrow" cycle and gave me something to look forward to on weekends. My town is also super gun friendly so it was easy to make friends that shared a common interest/have people with more experience teach me. We have back up gun matches every month but they're super casual, everyone just shows up to have a good time.

If you're looking for handguns, definitely try before you buy. What one person likes you might hate due to how it fits in your hand, recoil impulse, sights, etc. If you have friends/family that shoot pretty regularly, have them take you along so you can try out what they have as well as (hopefully) having someone with you to walk you through safe handling and proper shooting techniques.

Best of luck to you.

Seriously if you are worried about self harm, sort that shit before you get a gun. I'm not a shrink I just play one on TV but, even a safe etc a fire arm is a quick manic state to harm. While guns are cool af and good healthy hobby. I don't want to see you as a stat . We meme a lot but don't want anyone hurt.

I did kinda meme my story while this all happened, I omitted a little. I was shooting my ported g20 on full power loads at our local club. Correct, porting isn't new! Same shit uneducated comes in all ages and flavors. I've met people younger than me (late 30s) who thought spitzer bullets are "sharp to be anti armor".

It's mostly the conduct that bothered me. If you feel I'm a danger to myself and others why come up to me on a hot range and play fucking RO.

You're not a fucking RO and our RO didn't seem to mind. (Wonder why???) I kinda dropped the story for meme but yeah just a old dumb faggot being a gun Karen.

I believed that when I was eleven or twelve because I was taught to hunt on a .30-30 while my dad would bring his .30-06. I think I asked why my bullets were round and his were sharp and he tried to explain it as "well, my bullets were made for fighting other people" or something to that effect. He was trying to communicate that it was a military round.

I took that weak explanation and tried to resolve it with "well, soldiers wear body armor so this bullet made for killing soldiers must be sharp to go through the armor." I figured out that wasn't the case pretty quick when I began vacuuming up firearms media around 13-14.

I definitely prefer a full under lug on wheel guns, except for vintage S&W N Frames like my Model 57. If I were to get a more modern wheel gun I'd either go for an 80s stainless S&W (before the transfer bar hammer safety and the bullshit built-in lock) or one of the new Colts. I wish there were more options for .41 Magnum since that's my favorite magnum handgun cartridge. I'd love to see a Colt in .41 Magnum built to the same standard as a Python. I'd buy that shit with a 4" barrel and carry it.

It's going to be 2100 and there will stilp be someone out there rocking Mosins and Maxim machine guns in a conflict.

@Falcos_Commisar the only appropriate suppressor for a Krink would be the Dead Air Wolverine since it's designed after the Ruskie suppressors that were made for the AKS-74U, but it's a modern Western can so you get better sound reduction. I believe they're one of the more affordable rifle cans and fairly flexible since they're a .30 can.
I have used one and they are pretty good. Never had any issues.
i just want my hundred and fifty man

oh shit is there a tri lug adapter for those? i'm dangerously close to getting a can and i'll put it on my ARV dressed up as an MP5 so that nobody but me knows what the fuck is going on
We used a KNS adapter and direct threaded to the adapter. It shot good and as a side note Hornady Sub-X in 7.62x39 will cycle a standard AK both with and without a suppressor.

Vickers and Ma Deuce are eternal, and it kinda looks like the PKM and FN MAG are going to also have long lives.
When it's that simple and over build you got a lot of room. I don't have it handy but there's a us army picture of like M2 9xx manufacture going to upgrade fix in god damn 2004!! That weapon has been working long ass time as it was made.

While it's fallen to second line and mil surp the SKS is /k/ and my own inna woods gun for a reason. Basically an anti tank semi auto toned down to a "AK" round ( yes I'm over simplifying) to a comfy carbine? best gun.

There's a long story no one cares about, but what I'd like to ask before I forget, what do people think about suppressor blankets? I'm pretty sure @Club Sandwich probably talked about using them fighting the mole people in Antarctica and I just am too lazy to scroll back. But I am so busy and well regarded.

suppressor blankets
professionals wear gloves most of the time when they need to worry about attaching or detaching them in the field, and the few times i've had to worry about a hot suppressor being picked up by thermals it was in situations where the suppressor would only have a few shots through it at most (and a pour from a canteen fixes that pretty quick), not enough to really get hot unless i really was fighting the Penguin's Liberation Army at which point a hot suppressor is the least of my worries.

a suppressor wrap that doubled as a little carry bag if i did detach it with some spare parts like a thread protector or cleaning brush/jag/scraper for the baffles or a barrel adapter with an alternate thread like 14mm LH or a little wrench or something would be handy though.

I'm really upset I had a cool picture (it was half edgy half cool) of a skeleton " be a man C clamp your can"

My biggest worry was the idea anything around the can slows cooling.

May I ask your glove suggestion? I dunno how/why but I either destroy or baby things. I'm an office gun fan and I've ruined Oakleys many times and broke an few mechanix from harbor freight.

i used nomex flight gloves for the majority of door kicking duties and had good luck with "Mechanix Wear" product line (they have a tactical version now which is pretty decent), but i was using the original ones from '01 through '05 before i switched to Hatch Hot Weather Combat gloves. these days i still prefer either nomex flight gloves or hatch for shooting, the Mechanix Wear is more if i have to do a lot of hand manipulation of people/objects rather than trigger time.

I truly thank you and, as you've helped me 600+ times before. I just want to go out state, this.

Mrs basso is the best ever and a true regard. Trying to learn and failing. " So a 3 layer turkey online told you Harbor Freight gloves lets you hold the can?"

Also, while you mentioned, manipulation, I can't seem to find it again but I saw a video of SEALS doing a house raid early 00s. I feel lucky I learned some basic shit like room clearing, but JFC one guy takes a house solo and what it really is the details. his footing.

Sorry enough NABBY SEAB serpg for a gun thread. I will bring a question, whats the best and cheapest, more so cheaper way (while not being china crap) to do a mount for a reflex sight... with a fixed front post? Will be on a AR15.

Remember Poppa Basso got a nice spare kit built from me? He wont use it much I just thought he'd like the look. But at same time I don't want to give him air soft shit. If I can snag a mount for 20 or what ever price. I don't mind a 50-200 red dot. But I really don't want to tear the gun down with a FRP sight.

Completely unrelated he gave me a new PC thing to mess with.
