That's a very simple shot. I have new shooters making shots at 150y with a .22lr within an hour or two of instruction.
ive made this kind of shot off hand with my mosin using 50 year old ammo and iron sights. not a difficult shot to make

If he had aimed for the torso we'd likely be talking about an assassination, not an attempt. The wannabe president slayer was not the sharpest knife in the drawer. His equipment was not part of the problem. In other words...

SKILL ISSUE.
exactly. as stated above you can make that shot using a 70 year old rifle, iron sights, and 50 year old ammo. head shot? nope, dont think i could do that with the mosin, but a torso shot i can absolutely do.

Im gonna be real, DPMS ARs are genuine dogshit. I bought one new as my first AR and it has shit accuracy and the internals fucking rattle. Still operates, I keep it around because it's funny.

If you've ever shot a deer or whatever you'll know that isn't the case. You get "buck fever" where you fuck everything up and can't do shit because you're full of adrenaline or whatever. Dude could have also been winded from having 0 stamina, on top of his trump fever.
Shitty trigger, shitty ammo, shitty sight, shitty barrel, poorly supported gun, and untrained shooter didn't help any.

As they say, the flat range isn't very comparable to real life stuff

I've added a recoil pad and paracord wrap to my stock for better LoP and comfort. Still debating adding another wrap to the lower strut. On one hand it would be more symmetric, and I'd have more paracord in an emergency. On the other hand the first wrap was a pain in the ass, it looks fine as is, and everything works.

At first the recoil pad was just shy of perfectly snug but adding the paracord fixed that.

was looking through a pawn shop today and boy do i miss the days of being able to find a non norinco SKS for $300. the norinco ones were being sold for $700, and for that price, while i love the SKS and want one, those arnt worth that. i could get a decent entry level AR for that. oh, if i only had a time machine. (:_(

Was it originally a side folder or did it require a trunion swap?

Ordered a new custom leather holster and matching two-mag carrier for my Staccato P. After a year of wearing the current rig I have for it, I'm just not fully satisfied with it. The rig I currently have is a hybrid leather and kydex design, with the rear panel of it being the leather part and is so wide and soft that it flexes and shifts on my belt. And I've just never been a fan of kydex for CCW holsters. And the inside of the kydex holster is lined with some kind of suede that scuffs off when I draw my pistol, so I'm constantly having to clean little suede crap off the slide, light rail, and front sight.

The holster I've ordered is from Tucker Gun Leather and is called the Texas Short Stroke. It's fully leather lined (a rarity with holsters these days), is cut low for a red dot and for the pistol to clear the holster quicker, and was reasonably priced for a fully lined, handmade holster at under $180. I didn't get any fancy extras like custom carving or anything, but I did order it and the mag carrier in a really nice oxblood red color. Gonna be about a three month wait, but I will post photos when it arrives.

I do still plan on getting a Nightingale Leather shoulder rig for my Staccato eventually, but that's going to be nearly $700, and I've got some other things I want to take care of before I start saving for that.

I used to own a couple different SKSes, but the only one that remains is my factory 26 Chinese "paratrooper" (not actually used by paratroopers of course, they just took surplus SKSes off the rack and chopped the barrels to make them more appealing to the US market). I slightly overpaid for it when I bought it but now they sell for more than double what I paid so I think I won in the end. The 4" less of barrel makes it seriously so much handier. At one point I owned both a full-length Chinese SKS and the para at the same time, now I only own the para.

But it's not so great that I would say go and buy one now. Prices of guns that are no longer imported are so fucked it's unreal. It won't get better for a long, long time.

Try to convince me why an SMG with 71 round drum magazine firing at 900 RPM with an underbarrel flamethrower isn't the perfect home defence weapon. You don't need to use the flamethrower inside the house obviously.

My friend let me shoot his SKS and it is really fun but unless you somehow get one for cheap I wouldn't recommend it just get an AK at that point. If you are dead set on an SKS you might have some luck if you can find an older woman whose husband died and try buying his guns if he had any. I have a friend who finds estate sales or yard sales where people who don't know shit about guns are trying to dump someone's collection or something and he has had some amazing finds from it and gets them super cheap.

I got my chink SKS at sportsmans at a black friday sale for 399. Not what it used to be yeah. But apparently they had come into a stockpile. This was two years ago I think. It needed the bolt piston extension replaced, but other than that, once it was fixed, it runs superbly. I will say cheap Russian 7.62x39 is basically gone. But a lot of companies have tooled up and are now supporting it, so you can get ammo still.
