What are some good "gun books" that have a slant towards the DIY/Improvised whether it be guns themselves or accessories? This question is going to be made much harder by the following statement, I am not very interested in the 30 year old paladin press manuals that show you how to make .22 suppressors out of coke cans and machinegun conversion books that are little more than machinist drawings and legal disclaimers. Neither am Interested in "how to build/upgrade an AR-15 books".
Also I'd much prefer it if these could be actually purchased.

That's an inherently difficult niche to cater to.
Most DIY stuff is geared towards people who have grinder, welder and drill press so you have the Paladin Press stuff to cover that base, and if you have actual machine shop equipment at your disposal it's sort of expected you know how to use them to make whatever parts you need - so there's no book.

Ignoring Luty's famous guide, and TM 13-20, most will be less about the history and more about the construction of improvised firearms and accessories.

Guns on the Early Frontiers by Carl Russell is a pretty good reference for early American firearms that were made and adapted during the settlement and expansion of the US, complete with illustrations and references on construction methods and materials.

in Brazilian Portuguese is Las Armas De Nelmo Suzano by Ronaldo Olive, an excellent resource for Nelmo's firearms development history which shows the ideas and planning associated with firearms design, as well as touches on manufacturing at-scale as well as prototyping.

i'm unaware of any particular books on the topic, but "Paltik" jungle shop firearms out of Danao, Cebu, Philippines have a thriving industry and many articles exist on the topic complete with photos and interviews. likewise with Malaysian insurgents and mountain hunters. there's also the rather famous "Khyber Pass" weapons village of Darra Khel have been around for a very long time.

i mostly learned by traveling, doing the work myself or witnessing it, or interacting with the people doing it. it's generally not printed owing to many of these countries criminalizing the actions and the ones that are relatively safe from government aren't safe from criminals or terrorists that would try to take over or otherwise target them.

i'm absolutely sure a lot of these things are in expose articles scattered around in magazines or newspapers over the years though just by searching for key words and amassing the knowledge that way.

I guess I came off a little vague in my initial post, I'd like something with "substance". For example, recently I acquired a copy of "How to build military grade suppressors .22 thru .50 BMG" and while the Suppressor designs featured in it are rather crude (and it does actually detail building suppressors out of something other than coke cans, lawnmower mufflers and tennis balls). It provided detailed instructions and more importantly rationale for design choices.

This is something I would like to acquire but can't find a physical copy of for sale.

more importantly rationale for design choices.
In that case the recommendations are "Hatcher's Notebook" by Julian S. Hatcher and "Textbook of Pistol Technology and Design" by Peter Dallhammer.
There's also "The Machine Gun" by George M. Chinn but getting physical copies is not really feasible from what I've looked into.

I found a copy of Expedient Homemade Firearms online for like $100. They're still floating around, you basically just need to keep your eyes peeled and be patient.

@AGPinochet
Just don't be like this guy, though it's amazing his homebuilt shit even worked.

He even challenged the mayor to a duel. On horseback.
A shootout with police in the Ukrainian city of Odessa on January 19, 2017, left three people dead including the shooter. The attack appears to have been carried out using one or more craft-produced firearms. Valentin Doroshenko, a 57-year-old man who was identified as the shooter, was known locally for his pro-Russia activism, being shown in one photo holding a flag emblazoned with Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. He had previously been documented engaging in stunts such as arriving outside the Mayor’s office on horseback to challenge the-then City Head to a duel.

it shows initiative and effort, however a lack of skills or talent. shame about the pro-russian stuff in Ukraine, he might've done something useful instead.

this is a Danao home-shop made pistol (frame, slide, grips, and some internal parts). a mix of available commercial and home-made work, and from someone that took care and time towards making a good product.

If you want to build a gun or at least have instructions to do so Luty's book pretty much is the start and end of it.

People have adapted it to a legal closed bolt design using an AR15 trigger group but there's a reason it's open bolt design is pretty much the defining characteristic of this type of firearm.

Most of the "current" stuff you're not liking to find in a book because the designs are evolving so rapidly but the "Shuty" is a 3d printed modern interpretation of the Luty.

Question is where does one go in order to practice with shooting it lol.
That's a problem I have. Most of my firearms are 80%s and ranges don't have (or notice) a problem with those, but I don't really have anywhere to test my more obviously 3d printed projects.

I do intend to make a 10-22 with a 3d printed receiver soon, that'll probably be easier to bring into a normie range.

It really is a shame that 3D printers are so affordable and unregulated. Just a shame, y'know?
Just Awful

But speaking of 3D printed guns and California specifically, I think that there might be an Illegal factory in Fresno or the surrounding area and that the cops are clueless about it.
The evidence for this theory comes from two different seizures of FGC-9's in Fresno, California from two different people.

Links on the second gun seized

Now as to why I think the cops are clueless, notice how the Sheriff's don't know what the second FGC-9 seized is, but Fresno PD does. That imo indicates a lack of Interagency knowledge sharing and a lack of Police education on modern printed firearms.

Just print it in black and make sure nobody gets too close if you're super paranoid about it.
