I may be misinformed but I have heard some grumblings which may or may not be correct that L210's might not defeat every threat listed in the special threat category, what threat(s) this would be I have no Idea and to reiterate I do not remember where I heard this information so I cannot speak to it's authenticity. But generally I have heard that it is a good plate and in the ghetto you are much more likely to encounter rifle caliber pistols with 5.5-12.5in barrels chambered in 7.62x39 and 5.56x45 than full size rifles in those same calibers.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. At most it would be 5.56 or 7.62x39, maybe some surplus shit with the mild steel core, not serious AP. Price is right too, and weight is not too bad. Sure as hell beats AR500 coated in Line-X. Even if there's some truth to the rumors it should still function well enough for the types of threats I'm thinking of. Doubt that Jamal has a stash of green tips, that's an enthusiast move.

I'm curious too, haven't kept up with comms stuff lately so I'm interested in seeing what's new.

Guess the problem with Baofengs is mostly the lack of encryption.
Flannel Daddy mentioned an encrypted radio on his intro to Recce vid a couple weeks ago (not the brand new one from like, yesterday). Idk if I trust that in general, I get sketchy with the idea of using anything producing radiowaves/pinging towers: phones, radios, atomic watches (in shtf, not everyday like a schitzo).

@MrJokerRager Others mentioned some of this shit already, but I'll give you my Civie larp advice:

In a ideal setting, you want something at the level of crye percision and shit. It's expensive. My opinion is to focus on getting your gun in shape, Get your ass in shape, and buy some cheap shit to start off:

- Propper Lightweight Tactical Pants (not the uniform ones) Administrative Results (good yt resource) rocks these apparently. Not at the level of Crye, but cheap and good enough to TRAIN in.

- Condor MRC5 Chest Rig: Cheap, again, grab it to TRAIN in, get used to wearing 3-6 mags over your chest.

I especially am stressing the greenlight for cheap gear if your out-of-shape. Last thing you wanna do is buy a pair of $300 crye pants and then shape out of them. (Also, check out UFPro, they have similar shit for a little less, more camo options, every dime counts).

I will let others more qualified here say whether they would prioritize the plate carrier and helmet over your higher end combat shirt and expensive taticool pants, but Make sure you also put money into:

- Training
- First Aid Kit (IFAK) and a first aid class to learn how to use it.
- Gas Mask and filters (tear gas is a popular tool nowadays and Mira masks are cheaper then Crye Pants)
- Weapon Sling and lighting system, night training (will you run NV?)

Lastly, I recommend the following YT channels and pages for info, anyone else feel free to add more:

- GarandThumb (Modern day Nutnfancy)

- Administrative Results (Friend of GT, uses bang for buck gear for the most part, good to look into)

- Hopofheil (Expert on AR pistols, Night Vision, and Laser Emitters. Also posts on TFB, but everyone else on TFB are gay af ever since the 2 dudes left like 5 years ago)

- S2_underground (page that a. follows the shitshow of the US, logistics for civilians, and b. gives advice on cool shit like making makes, mobile solar solutions, creating maps, hiding from UAVs, etc)

- cbrnart (this one is actually a insta page + podcast somewhere. People like the podcast, but they have good picture guides on the insta page that are very insightful for civies that are still new-ish, noob-friendly.)

You have other faggots like Gunsandgear, IraqVet8888, Trexarms, TheYankeeMarshall (lol), military arms channel, etc. These channels are more shills that just review shit, but at that point I'd rather watch old Nutnfancy reviews with his techno-beats and personality.

Worrying about helmets is stupid if you're not going to be anywhere near shrapnel. If you just want something to mount NODs on, it's retarded to spend the extra $1200+ on a ballistic helmet and accessories to do it when bump/ ProTec helmets are hundreds of dollars cheaper and work just as fine for the application.

Even if you get a ballistic helmet and it takes anything over a grazing shot, you're still dead or a vegetable from BFT.

This helps illustrate what happens when a helmet gets shot. No subtitles but the video is self-explanatory. Note the homemade ballistic gel head, they call it Karl.

TL;DR: even if the helmet holds by some miracle, your neck won't

Are 5. 11 tactical and Blackhawk good brands
both are "okay" and probably more than enough for anyone that doesn't do tactical work regularly. blackhawk has some decent basic products like slings or pouches where you need a thing and you aren't worried about constant use or wear. 5.11 can be hit or miss depending on the product, but most people i know that wear them treat them like work pants rather than combat fatigues, which is probably reasonable.

good quality fitted cotton jeans (Levi 501), dungarees (or my favorite are "fire hose pants" for lighter duties), or good old rothco ripstop tends to work well enough.

voodoo tactical and ncstar junk
what's sad is that both Voodoo, Condor, NC Star, and some others have a couple genuinely good products (same for UTG actually), but the rest are really hit or miss or kinda reaching. almost as if they stopped trying after meeting a bit of success.

Bates tactical boots last forever
shout out to Merrell, and Belleville for special conditions, although i wouldn't wear them all the time. i've had a lot of good luck Danner Acadia boots when i was still working overseas.

they are meant to protect against carbine rifles in intermediate cartridge like 5.56mm, shrapnel, and most pistol rounds including repeat hits in short time spans (an SMG). some might say they are closer to a reduced SAPI than anything else, since SAPI, ESAPI and XSAPI also are not quite NIJ compliant but designed around a particular threat in a particular circumstance.

i probably missed a bunch of other points, but i did want to mention that i've worn lots of combinations of gear and comfort and ability to move freely is super important. an FLC or older LBV can easily be thrown over your undercover vest and shirt, or worn on top of a decent plate carrier and be pretty modular as it's easily separated from the both to ditch gear if it means avoiding being caught on something or drowning. it certainly beats the older LAPD PanTac HRM vests which were incredibly annoying and the many "Tactical Vests" that use hook and loop for the majority of attachment. a surplus Interceptor OTV with new plates that isn't super old (kevlar has between a 8 and 10 year "life" unless the wax is broken up or it gets soaked and never dried).

i've had a good amount of luck with both LBT and HSGI vests, and still prefer the Weesatch more often than not. some of the surplus Czech vests are pretty nice as well if you swap the plates out.

Helmets increase the chance X% soldier will be wounded in action, therefore helmets are bad.

On the other hand, if you've got some extra cash after buying a rifle, rifle plates and a radio, stacking the odds against instant death rolls is nice.

I have a pair of Danner Acadias, and while they're worth the price, I just find my Bates more comfortable. I mean yes they have had years to be worn in so that makes a difference, the Danner Acadias just feel more clunky.

What's your take on Salomon boots? ik Garand Thumb likes them and their not too expensive.

Salomon boots
i've worn their 'speed assault' sneaker style boot and they didnt do well in jungles (Brazil) or swamps (Florida) (breathing too much or not enough, but soaked feet in a jungle is bad news bear), but are pretty decent in deserts. unfortunately the pair i had, had sole separation issues in rocky deserts in and around death valley after like 2 years, but were 100% fine and comfy in Egypt and parts of Africa. maybe the heat killed them, but i didn't have issues with either Bates or Danners in that environment at 29 stumps or burgers over san diego...

Dumb question time.

I have a plate carrier from Ars Arma alongside a chest rig from them. How do I know if this thing glows in the dark under NODs or not? It's essentially a Russian knock off Haley Strategic and Crye JPC clone that feels really nice. That being said, my Esstac belt is the comfiest setup I've made for myself as it relates to gear.

Are 5. 11 tactical and Blackhawk good brands and also thoughts on Smith and Wesson's other brands as well?
I wear 5.11 khakis almost every day. I love them. They're stylish and comfy af.
5.11 makes good khakis and decent polo shirts. They're a very good brand for dudes in cubicles trying to pretend to be high speed/gray man types
Just need some Merrell trail runners, gascans, and a g-shock to complete the “dude who’s definitely packing and is carrying at least two knives” look.
Yep, this is me. I'm just gonna own it. Even wearing the boots, now that it's cold outside.

Should I also tuck in and blouse the pants, just for shits and giggles?
