Also I would like to state that Russian plate carriers sized for Granit 2 plates will usually fit US standard 10x12 plates. I tried fitting a Large SAPI in one but it didn't work out. Crye Precision makes decent carriers as well, but certain Large plates don't fit the Large carrier bags on their JPCs. I should have gone with XL but oh well. Granit size 3 carriers do exist as well and they're fairly close to Large SAPI. 11x14 or SAPI XL plates are out there as well but they definitely don't fit most people correctly.

I second that. I ordered a Mordor carrier from them some time ago but unfortunately the plate bags are too small for my choice of inserts. The carrier itself isn't that bad for what it's worth though.

SSO/SPOSN stuff is okay too, a lot of these companies supply Russian PMCs and regular .mil/LE units so it should be halfway decent at least. are Arma is a little pricey, but a few companies make copies of the LBT 6094 plate carrier that are designed to fit either Granit or SAPI plates.

Also, the company UARM, who I believe are based in Kyiv, Ukraine, make some decent gear that's nominally NATO standards. Their carriers are decent for the money and they have experience supplying a variety of clients in Eastern Europe.
Bearwood Armory is pretty good too, just expect a six month wait like I did.

Welp I finally took the plunge and got myself a Christmas gift; the AR-50 now I need to know what kind of scope to get for this since I know they start at well over $1000 so I don't want to get anything I'll regret.

Also what do I buy next? I was thinking one of the gattling guns made out of 2 Ruger 10/22s.

Do your research and make sure it's something .50 BMG recoil won't destroy.

No Mike Ehrmantraut, we're not going to help you kill Tuco.

just picked up new Carhartt quilted for this hunting season. finally wore through the last set. black because up here it's always snow and rock, camo is just excess.

I'm looking at the new Marlins and while I'd like one, I'm not sure about quality compared to the older one I've got. anyone get to fire the new model yet?

now I need to know what kind of scope to get
the Leupold Mk 4 series was purpose built for the M107 series of rifles and will work very well for the M99 and other .50 BMG rifles. the key thing you want is good quality rings, proper torque values for those rings, and the scope itself should be .50 BMG rated for the action you have. there is a very large difference in ratings between semi-auto (gas operated, short recoil, whatever) rifles and manual action rifles. you can get away with a Bushnell Elite 3200 or Vortex Razor HD on a Barrett M82, but not on the M99 for very long.

that being said a SWFA Super Sniper should work if you have a unibody mount rather than two separate rings like the ARMS #72. if you prefer separate rings, a more durable scope like the Nightforce NXS might be your preference, and the NXS has some pretty good options for reticle and features.

when servicing .50 BMG rifles, i usually see them with Leupold Mk 4's, Bushnell Elites, US Optics, March F series, or Schmidt & Bender optics with the one random Kahles scope for some reason. if it were my rifle or for a friend, i recommend the NXS with a quality, properly installed mount, and eat the cost as you get an optic that will certainly have the quality and durability desired and you can always move it around to different rifles as needed.

i prefer the older Marlins, the newer ones were cost reduced on some things and while the overall rifle is still good (speaking of lever action rifles and carbines, which are super popular for hunting around where i am) the furniture and some options were removed over the years to keep the rifle good quality while still being affordable. it's not a stark difference though, it's noticeable side by side of if you have a lot of experience handling them. a Marlin 1894 S will tend to be a bit nicer than a Marlin 336. in terms of the bore and action, they're pretty much the same, and Ruger has been supplying barrels to Marlin for decades now without trouble.

Yeah I really want a Russian plate carrier just to be different from the other guys I shoot with, but damnit it's hard to find them in larger sizes. Granit 2/10x12/Medium SAPI will fit most body types but they're a little small for me. The Bearwood stuff looks good but I already found something else in my size on a different site.

I kinda like the LBT 6094 copies personally, there is some good variety out there even among that type.

A thousand bucks for a single shot bolt action? I actually started out on a .22 single shot. But for a .50 that's not bad. Just don't use any antique SLAP rounds in it!

may just look around for a sister to the older model I've got instead. cheers

Merry Christmas Gun bros.

Saw a faggot socialist I knew from a while back post on facebook his Christmas haul of: 3x 30 rd mags (metal) 3x 40 rounders (metal), a prism scope, and a shitty chest rig. Feel the need to go buy a bunch of gear now.

So, I was thinking about making a new "Mega Rad Gear Thread" to solely talk about clothing, camo, gear (belts/chest rigs/plate carriers), packs, tools, pretty much anything that is not a gun, mounts to your gun, or holsters your gun. Do you think these topics are worth the new thread or is traction low enough to warrent it all to stay here? ( I guess rate agree for new thread, disagree for keep it here)

It'd just be the same people talking about the same shit. Easier to keep it contained to a single thread.

Here's something really interesting, a shooting recorded on a Police Bodycam, in which the LAPD officer firing the shots is wielding a real deal M16A1 in the year 2021. This rifle is almost assuredly a real deal M16A1 (unless it is some kind of really well made Imitation) based on the furniture, tear drop forward assist, and most importantly, auto sear pin hole (which can be seen at 28:21)
Now you're probably asking, why the fuck does the LAPD still have M16A1's in service? The best answer to this question that I have heard is that this is an old gun (obviously) that the Military/Fed. Gov. gave to the LAPD among probably many other PD's and LE Agencies during/immediately after the adoption of the M16A2 (hell maybe the NG gave them to the LAPD after the 92' riots, I don't know) that somehow is still being issued today.

What's the optic he's got on it? The profile looks like an ACOG, but I didn't think they made ones that can fit on a carry handle. It definitely doesn't look like the old optics they made for the A1/A2.

It's an ACOG that is mounted on a Carry handle mount hole (I don't know the actual name) to pic rail adapter, That is a piece of pic rail that can be screwed into the carry handle mount hole and then have optics attached to it). You can see the screw for the adapter at 28:20 at the far left edge of the camera's view, right as the guy is inserting the mag.

A lot of LE agencies have FA A1s and A2s, it's nothing new or special. My friend in another State had his chief let him put a department FA lower on his personal upper to use as a patrol rifle. It's not as uncommon as you would think.

It's not that it's still being issued, it's mostly leftover inventory. You're not going to get rid of FA rifles if you don't have to.

LAPD seems to be extremely liberal on what they allow officers to carry for a very large metro police department. I think I saw bodycam video of an officer in a shooting that was still carrying an S&W 4506.

LAPD and many other very large departments from the 70's through the 80's were among the 1st departments to have a dedicated "high risk team" or what eventually became "SWAT". the A1's are mostly former USMC or US Army M16's and M16A1's (and some National Guard rifles) that were purchased after the M16A2 was adopted. while the military was testing the Colt Model 727 and 723, the LAPD used the MP5A2 and A3, as it made the cost of equipping and training a large police force easier. likewise much of the gear could be purchased from the same suppliers as the military or as surplus.

It's an ACOG that is mounted on a Carry handle mount hole (I don't know the actual name) to pic rail adapter
it's an ACOG TA01 (not the TA01NSN or the later TA31F). the TA01 was always mounted directly to the carry handle just like the Hakko/Realistic/Weaver scopes, and there is a particular LE version that was cost-reduced and simplified for the express use on patrol rifles. they are 3.5x typically and have a wider FOV.

there is no 1913 rail adapter - all ACOGs can be removed from the TA51 base and mounted directly to the M16 carry handle, it's a design feature and it's also why it has a hollow base so you can see through it and use the target sights. the ACOG is from the 80's after all and the 1913 wasn't even invented until the early 90's. before then it was all weaver and dovetails.
I think I saw bodycam video of an officer in a shooting that was still carrying an S&W 4506.
LAPD, SFPD, and OPD, as probably many other departments will allow an officer qualified for a particular handgun to continue to carry it for duty use even after it's been retired - the idea being that retraining is more expensive and it's one less pistol to buy and maintain. also police commissioners tend to be forgiving for writing authorization letters for duty use of all kinds of things. i was pretty much the only officer with an H&K USP when everyone else had a S&W or SIG and that wasn't even any special situation; i was simply better/more confident, and qualified better with it that the P226.

Been on a project kick. I refinished these two surplus Romy grips. Both were beat to fuck but some patient sanding and polyurethane worked great:

I'm moving on to modernizing what was my dad's ALICE pack. I've swapped out the kidney pad for the ocp molle one I acquired at my last unit and tied a Paracord carry handle to the frame. I'm going to swap to a buckle strap system next. Love this pack.

What an awful Frankenstein looking build.

I love it.
