European solutions for optics on AKs are usually large, overbuilt, bulky things that require chin welds. I don't blame any conscripts for preferring regular blade sights over them.

conscripts can't have any preferences and they also tend to fuck up the simplest of things like bayonets and trench shovels. Giving them optics is pure retardation. It's not like they shoot much anyway.

How come the Russians in the "special military operation" don't seem to have very many optics on their AKs? The Syrian and Afghan jihadis seem to be flush with cheap optics.
We're probably not seeing as many mounted because they're hopping in & out of APCs and trucks constantly, or sitting around in buildings.

It's been a while since I've messed with standard Russian AK optics mounts; aren't they set up for not losing zero when remounting one?

They're either underequipping and not giving their newest tech to the conscripts on the frontlines (which is shit we should have known was a dumb idea since WWI), or their Ratnik program wasn't as impressive, up-to-date, or thorough as they claimed it was. In theory standard kit should be the AK-12/15 with optics.
The problem with the Ratnik program was the same as any other modernization program of the Russian conventional forces. The money surplus dried up mid-way through the program.

You see, the Russians had been having large budget dividends because of really high oil prices back in the late 00s. So the extra cashflow they had began to be put into force modernization. The fracking innovations caused the shale oil revolution back in 2012. That caused a steady drop in oil prices. Then you had the Syrian proxy war step up, then you have the Crimean Annexation and the Donbas proxy war. Both of those used a lot of funds. All that slowed down the production of replacement technology.

Then in 2016, Trump got elected and through policy dropped the price of oil through the floor. Russia could either maintain and upgrade its nuclear arsenal, or it could upgrade its conventional forces. The made the better choice of having actually functional nuclear capabilities. As a result a lot of the tech we saw in propaganda videos is extant, but produced in such small numbers as to not really matter.

I will readily admit I don't know shit about Russian conscripts except that their rations are garbage.

Surely they could have afforded to buy some cheap Chinese optics in bulk at least for their motorized rifle guys, if not the logistics and support unit guys.

You would give your troops the cheap foreign sale Chinese knockoff optics *AND* suffer the prestige hit for doing so? You have more guts than I. EDIT: Not to mention your local defense industry would hate you.

A Russian language video detailing a Craft produced Bullpup SVD owned by an Al Qaeda affiliated (but akshually is totally a moderate rebel) Caucasian Foreign Fighter living in Idlib, Syria . Side note, whoever this guy is he must be loaded, absolutely rolling in the dough because this guy has heavily modified status guns out the wazoo (Most interesting imo is a Bullpup RPK-74 with ACOG and custom paint job, his own personal craft produced Anti Material Rifle, real glock brand glocks, and a PVS-14 NV monocular.

Makes sense. Though it does raise the question of why Russia would launch such a major military operation in the middle of financial troubles effecting the capability of their conventional forces; especially since they had to know that the west's main retaliation would be economic.

The theory being thrown around the internet was that this was now or never for Russia. Putin isn't getting any younger. It's not like they were expecting to get a major economic boom in the next few years.
Let's face it, the US (and France) can deploy people overseas or declare no fly zones to protect their interests, and nobody sanctions them. Whenever Russia protects their interests by force, they get pelted with sanctions. So from their perspective might as well go for broke and eat the next tranche of sanctions but manage to wrestle Ukraine into a beneficial position. They probably weren't expecting the war to become this violent and get themselves outright cancelled. It seems Putin is already sacking the people who assured him it was an in and out, 20 minute adventure.
I mean, it's not like rifles lacking optics is going to cost them the war. The pro-Russia fighters from the Donbass region seem to be doing well despite not being modernized with all the Ratnik bells and whistles. The problem with the Russian forces seems to be corruption, lack of will, lack of training and the strict adherence to a doctrine that emphasizes officers micromanaging troops (rather than the more modern doctrine of giving senior enlisted greater autonomy). So this creates a scenario where they are inching forward and winning engagements, but they can't stop stepping on rakes for the entire trip. Nevertheless, they are using their advantages to great effect. Artillery is pulling its weight, as it should. That matters a whole lot more than the optics on rifles or the kind of plate carrier they're wearing.

Any idea over who is Duncan Lemp?

Because Iron Sights are kino and tried and true method of killing without having to deal with all of that gayass MOA and moving the dials and torque and all that.

maybe it's just me, but iron sights work extremely well for me when a target is 200 meters or closer and i have to keep situational awareness across a field or street rather than just a building or hallway. also no batteries or bulky expensive things that make the QM angry.

Reno basically lays it out in the video. Guy got red flagged for restricted person in possession, cops no knocked in the middle of the night, they flash-banged him and then shot him when he reacted the way any of us would if someone barged into our bedroom in the middle of the night.

Not at all surprised that solgw would back these kinds of people. They're BRCC for ARs. Overpriced and relying on branding to sell guns well above their realistic prices. Sotar makes good videos, but he comes off as the type of boomer to put LE friends above principles.

From what I remember being a drunk idiot and I think fighting with/threateing/violating a restraining order with his mother.
How am I violatzing this order? We aren't toooo close I means officer, it's a double wide!

I've heard some pretty shitty things and does sound like family drama, but I haven't cared enough to dox or confirm anything on the guy. At very least, its pretty damn meme worthy,

You have to have Ork level bravery to fire a 3-d printed short barrel with a full sized round and no gloves. I'd shake this mans hand, and want to do it soon because I fear it's not long for this earth.

God speed you mad lad.
