M16A1 is heavier than the G36A1
the M16A1 is about 6-1/2lbs, the G36A1 is closer to 7-1/2 lbs, which is lighter than the M16A2's 8-1/4lbs. the glass fiber reinforced high density polymer receiver of the G36 is pretty durable. the barrel in both rifles, once the breech is locked, contains pressure enough that the receiver doesn't need much strength except where the barrel meets the receiver (or where the stock meets the receiver).

my G36A1 has the export 1.5x optic, not the larger dual-optic carry handle (it's an export 2nd gen G36E technically, closer to the modern G36V in configuration).

a lot of these rifles will vary wildly if you stick on enough RIS/RAS and accessories. i'm assuming you're talking about the basic rifle itself though, and not any accessories like flashlights, or whatever.

Well sure, a decent light setup for patrolling the mall adds another 10 or 15 pounds to a carbine.

Probably some old guy who doesn't know about using ctrl+scroll wheel to zoom in and types in caps instead. Probably.

No comment on the upper beyond that it's current year and guns should have optics imo.

Why the fuck is this so spendy?

the D10 kits are for military/police conversions and are not sold to the general public or even to commercial entities outside of specific samples (HKI will do demos through their own sales team and make arrangements for transfers or deliveries later). the D10 is also one of the few that are field replacement units, whereas other HK416 stuff is usually from taken apart complete rifles (typically older ones that have been updated to later versions).

because i do some service center work, i have access to these kits. a D10 conversion kit for re-arsenal work as sold to agencies is $2k-$2.25k per rifle depending on how old it is. my price from HK for the kits is about $1.8k depending on which contract it falls under or how many i buy in a single invoice.

My dad wants a .22 revolver with a 9 inch barrel cause he's fixing to shoot injuns or some shit. I was going to get him a glock 44 but he thinks it's gay.

Nothing says stopping power quite like a .22lr. Does he have a competitive reason to want a long barrel, or just wants a long gun?

I guess we're in competition waxing the local squirrel population but I think he had one as a kid. Watch out Texas Red, here comes my pa.

Fire hazard? I get the brass jew thing but are they worried about someone's gun getting gunked up with powder and igniting?

As a side note: if anyone has a favorite place to score bulk pistol rounds, I'd appreciate the hookup.
ammoseek.com is a price aggregator that I use.

toggle off for daylight usage
ATN's X-Sight models are generally commercially available, decent quality and feature-rich. alternately any IR sensor equipped with a toggle shutter will also work. the cheap way to use an IR scope during daylight is to greatly limit the amount of light reaching the sensor, i used to drill a pinhole into a spare lens cap to "toggle" a AN/PVS-4 on/off when needed...

be aware that some local or state law may restrict the ownership, possession, or use of IR scopes; consult an attorney if in doubt.

Thats exactly what I was looking for. I will check with local laws. Thanks.

Check out AWCY's takedown called the bento box. Cool little thing.

Some of their guys have been starting twitter drama and they don't vet their designs as much as the gatalog though.

Also some blasphemy. I want a bullpup because they're cool. I need to get a .308 semi-auto rifle. I was thinking about combining them. Any idea what I should get?

Stuff those things full of CB shorts, and go to work. Or a gallery pump, those are almost criminally quiet. Used to pop rats off the back fence on the run, as they tried to shoot the gap between our garage & alley.

Funny part was I never really looked on the other side of that fence; until my neighbor told me his dog was getting sick from all the rats he'd been eating; but the dog was fat & lazy & no way could he catch rats. Then I looked on the other side of the fence, and it was like a goddamn murder scene, with parts of rats scattered around for days. Which were also being eaten by other rats. Which I'd then shoot. No one had a clue. Good times.

The only two that come to mind are the Desert tech MDR and the Kel-Tec RFB.
In .308 the Kel-Tec has the better reputation.
