Okay, I have installed vertical foregrip onto my AR horizontally at least once, just for the lulz.
 
Suppressors, do they have a place in the home defense arsenal?

I would like to think in a home defense scenario a suppressor would be very valuable and the benefits would outweigh the extra weight/length. Lets say you do need to shoot someone, discharging a firearm indoors is ridiculously loud, your hearing is shot, now you cannot effectively hear footsteps of a possible second intruder or a verbal command from LEOs arriving on scene. I do concede the optics would be terrible, if you do actually have to shoot someone the suppressed pistol is going to look worse than those Punisher grips or custom AR dust cover, one would be wise to detach and hide the suppressor before LE shows up, if possible.

The perfect HD pistol setup?

someone i know has a double stamp M1 carbine in a modified (aluminum blocks + bondo filler) mini 14 folding stock with 10.5" barrel that's been jig-drilled and a suppressor sleeve fitted over it. 15-30 rounds of 95gr SJHP .30 carbine, integrally suppressed, roughly 1800 f/s. OAL is 14-3/4 in. folded.

the stock was modified by inletting the forward lug a bit and widening the channel below the barrel to allow for the tappet system. an aluminum bedding block was used for stability, and bondo was used to reinforce areas (.30 carbine isn't going to hurt bondo + aluminum + a locked breech action) where there were voids.

the barrel was shortened and the bayonet lug and front sight completely removed. a steel ring was pressed into place and tack welded, then threaded. the barrel was then drilled using a modified HK SD drilling jig to allow gas to escape into the sleeved area. the receiver has a press-fit ring also tack welded in place and threaded the same as the front ring. the sleeve was then threaded into place and is retained with a small HK push pin that was drilled through the front retaining ring (bottom side) and the sleeve itself. the sleeve has bleed ports towards the front and a couple baffles on the inside. shoots easy and quiet enough, little flash, easy to clean.

My HD PCC has a can on it 24/7.
 
If you use a rifle for HD, I'd say a suppressor is almost guaranteed because those fuckers going off in an enclosed space is not fun for your lasting hearing.

That's why I went ahead and did the paperwork for a suppressor. Got a carbine length AR-15, which I like, but would be hell without hearing protection. Minimizing hearing damage from a self-defense shooting would be nice.

Honestly thinking about getting a SBR'd 300 Blackout AR for that home defense roll. Short barrel, sub-sonics work is really the place where 300 Blackout shines. Put a suppressor on it and it should be the gold standard for such things.
 
With how much supressors cost, and my hearing already shit thanks to uncle sam, I just can't really bring myself to put it on my hd gun. It's kinda moot anyway since I use my cc as my hd, but knowing that the expensive nfa item is going to sit in a police evidence box for years as they drag me through the court system (they did last time I had to fire at someone in anger) is something I'd rather not deal with.
In a perfect world I'd have a supressor on basically everyhing because I like hearing, but out here on the communist coast man its just a wash.

Having to shoot anyone sucks. Should have sued them for emotional trauma, grief counseling, and trying to insinuate it was your fault.
