This is a pretty late reply, but I got my ass burned on a Springfield 1911. The mil-spec absolutely is NOT mil-spec and has all kind of weird and subtle parts compatibility problems. I replaced it with a Rock Island and it's just a better gun.
It's retarded that the Flips skinwalking an Armory can make better guns than the Illinoisans doing the same.

‘Heroic’ mom, 85, kills masked intruder in gunfight protecting disabled son while handcuffed to chair and shot 4 times

An 85-year-old Idaho mother fatally shot a masked intruder who held her hostage at gunpoint while her disabled son slept down the hall during a horrifying home invasion.

Christine Jenneiahn’s “grit, determination, and will to live” is “what saved her that night,” Bingham County Prosecutor Ryan Jolley said after announcing Wednesday that Jenneiahn justifiably killed Derek Condon, 39, on March 13.

“This case presents an easy analysis of self-defense and justifiable homicide,” Jolley wrote in the case review shared by the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office. “It also presents one of the most heroic acts of self-preservation I have ever heard of.”

Jenneiahn had been asleep in her Bingham County home when she awoke around 2 a.m. to find Condon — dressed in a military jacket and black ski mask — pointing a 9 mm pistol at her while shining a flashlight in her face, according to the review.

She told investigators that Condon hit her while she lay in bed, causing her to bleed all over her pillow and bedroom floor.

Condon then slapped handcuffs on the elderly woman and took her into the living room at gunpoint, demanding for her to cough up any valuables she had in the house.

Jenneiahn’s disabled son, David, was asleep during the assault but she chose not to reveal that her son was also in the home.

In the living room, Condon handcuffed her to a wooden chair, where Jenneiahn told him she did not own many valuables, according to the report.

Condon put his gun to her head before she disclosed that there were two safes downstairs in the home, according to the review.

The home invader then left her handcuffed in the living room while he rummaged through several rooms in the house in search of anything valuable the elderly woman had.

Condon later discovered David Jenneiahn during the search and threatened to kill her multiple times over the lie.

As Condon continued his search, Jenneiahn, still handcuffed, dragged the chair to retrieve her .357 Magnum revolver from under her pillow, hiding the gun between the armrest and a cushion then “waited to see what Condon did next,” the report explained.

Prosecutors said Jenneiahn “ultimately made the decision that it was ‘now or never’ and drew her concealed .357 magnum and engaged Condon striking him with both her shots” after he threatened her once again.

The violent home intruder then opened fire on her with his pistol, striking the elderly woman in the abdomen, leg, arm, and chest.

Condon, severely wounded, retreated into the kitchen and died from being shot.

Jenneiahn, riddled with bullet holes and still cuffed to the chair, “fell to the floor” where she remained for approximately 10 hours.

Police finally reached the injured 85-year-old at about 12:17 p.m. and “provided life-saving measures on her,” according to the review.

She was rushed to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls and has since been released, EastIdahoNews.com reported.

“That Christine survived this encounter is truly incredible,” Jolley wrote.

Investigators found a broken window in the back of Jenneiahn’s home and a screwdriver next to the door where Condon is believed to have made entry.

The review also shared that Condon had a lock pick on his person.

The Idaho prosecutor wrote that “no person in this state shall be placed in legal jeopardy of any kind whatsoever for protecting himself,” after making his ruling that Jenneiahn was in the right to use “deadly force.”

“Absent a clear attempt by Condon to retreat from the residence or surrender, which based on the evidence clearly did not occur,” Jolley wrote.

“She is 85 years old. Any reasonable person would believe it necessary to defend themselves or their disabled child under such circumstances.”
Granny blasts shitbag with a .357 magnum.

Springfield 1911. The mil-spec absolutely is NOT mil-spec
SA has kind of gotten into the rebrand game and if they keep doing dumb stuff they're going to be the new Century Arms ngl. for an affordable 1911, i've been pretty impressed with RIA/Armscor and surprisingly enough Tisas (who really stepped up their pistol game since 2010's crap shoot). for more modern 1911 style pistols with external extractors i still think Para-Ord and S&W have something special on the table. if you have a bit of money a Wilson Combat is pretty good. i look at them as combat pistols for the most part. you can spend $$$ and get whatever competition pistol you like since paper doesn't shoot back, but if were using a 1911 as a service pistol vs a P226 or Glock 17/19, i wouldn't feel bad about an RIA on the hip.

Allegedly, and I can't stress that enough, allegedly they're supplying Springfield with 80% Hi-Power frames/slides.
its a lot less than 80%. its basically just the raw forging. SA still has to do a lot of machine work to make it into a frame. They used to do their 1911's the same way (only 1911 frames were sourced from IMBEL), but now they are 100% made in USA. if the hi-powers do well i could see them bringing forging to the US.

for reference M1A receivers come from Taiwan (the US donated the M14 production line to them, so its original machinery), wood stocks come from Canada and barrels and all other components are US made.

Any chance you know the name of the Taiwanese company?
no, and it seems that i am no longer correct. New M1a recievers are cast by someone. perhaps pine tree castings (ruger) but i can't be sure. The bolt forgings were being sourced from Shinsung Industrial Co (south Korea) by ~2000 but i can't guarantee that is still correct.

if you want a M14 go LRB, Fulton or Bula IMO.

Got me an AR15. PSA stainless upper and lower parts kit was marked down to like $370. So I got that and a stripped lower. Tell me wise kiwis about what I should run for lube.

Air compressor or motor oil is cheap as fuck and is pretty good stuff.
I have doubts that gun companies put as much effort into oil as the automotive industry does, especially since there's more shit going on in an engine. Thin machine oil is also very good, you want to avoid anything thick on parts that move quickly.

i had a reasonably detailed post in prior pages regarding lubrication. an AR-15 should have something akin to sewing machine oil or 3-in-1 with additional properties to handle heat and grime and stay in place instead of thinning with heat and pressure. it should also be able to stand up to rain. don't expect the chemical to do all the work - it's there to lubricate and offer protection, it's not going to clean the rifle for you after a rain storm or if you drop it in a muddy river.

also it doesn't take much in most areas - enough to leave a visible sheen of oil without running on the surface of the bolt carrier group and interior of the upper receiver where metal makes contact. a good cleaning kit that includes chamber brushes and pipe cleaners will be very helpful in general to get into difficult to reach areas. over lubrication can attract carbon fouling and increase friction for example, or have debris run into places you don't want it to be like the fire control pocket or into the carrier. some places in the AR do not require any lubrication at all because they are "cleaned" with high pressure, hot gasses from the action itself - the gas tube for example.

the general "use as directed and don't think too much" is inspect and clean your weapon regularly and use CLP.

I've heard of guys running food grade lubes; it's what I plan to try for my AR.
My first thought was something like Canola/Rapeseed oil, but then I thought for a second and it might be food grade but not intended for eating, something you'd lube a conveyor belt or band saw in a butcher shop. More stable than cooking oil, but non-toxic in case it gets on the food.

I run leftover (leftover fresh, not used) motor oil. As everyone's saying, us something good and slippery and keep it cleaned and lubed - but not too much. Many, many people do too much.

Also in the thumbnail I thought this was a joke post and the lower was kaboomed, lol
Go SOTAR autism and homebrew or just grab a bottle of break free CLP/Hoppes/whatever.

Do I spy Mobil 1 Red Grease? Is SOTAR somehow not part of the Aeroshell 33 'sure it's ridiculously priced for basic bitch grease but it's MILSPEC HOOAH' autism gang? Gasp.

I like this Umbrella Corp lube and their grease and the logo is cool. They usually send a sticker with orders too.
I wonder if it's the same formula as the Nano Gun Oil/Coom Oil that was made by some dude on /k/ a few years ago. I bought a 100ml bottle of it two years ago when he first started selling it and I'm only a quarter of the way through my bottle.
I absolutely swear by this stuff, it's fucking amazing.

Rumors that Kalashnikov USA has closed.

Honestly, forgot they existed. Washed up porn star marketing couldn't save them from PSA's market dominance.
