I use these guys for hearing protection. Don't think they are the standard. But I believe they make good products for the price.
 
Howard Leight are cheap and decent electronic ear pro for the price (I keep them as a backup or loaner for friends in my bag) I had sordin supreme pro-x that I used for a long time (biggest issue is with the batteries coming loose if you drop them or dive into prone and have the stock hit them hard enough, had that happen a few times in classes and competitions but its just a reinsert batteries fix, annoying to have to walk away to do it). There was a glitch or mistake on a site that was selling Comtac 3s for the cheap and they ended up honoring them so now I use them. The comtacs are legit. Outdoors I never have issues and they pick up sounds far away. I get disoriented hearing a conversation that's 20 feet away but it feels right next to me. I think I saw them on PSA's site on sale for like $400 and if you can get them that cheap or cheaper they're worth the price. Only recommend for all ear pro is to get the gel cups for them as they help with comfort when you're wearing them for a length of time.

Okay go with one of the communication built sets like Peltor Comtacs, MSA Sordins, Ops Core Amps. There's a lot of counterfeiting so make sure you get one from a reliable vendor. Also be sure that the model you're getting has comms, they sell cheaper models with comms removed.

Seconding gel cups, they are fantastic and can also help reduce noise leakage from the arms of glasses.

All the popular major brands in the 100-300$ish range are good, peltors are what most people get and work fine i own a pair and havent had any problems and you can hear people good like you were not wearing them. Do not cheap out though or buy a unknown or chinesium brand. Active protection is NOT a meme, especially if your around other people.

For example I was at a public range one time and 2 people were directly behind my booth pretty close saying something and me thinking that they were saying something important to me or in general I took my protection off and turned around (because why the fuck else would they be directly behind me close enough to hear their murmer) And some dude started blasting a draco or something in one of the other booths lol, granted it was my fault for not just turning around keeping my headset on and seeing that they were just having a general converstion in my space at a live range for some reason and nothing was actually happening.

Walker's Razor Slim for around $40 are a solid budget option (spend extra to replace the default rubbery ear cups with gel cups) . If you want better sound quality and directional sound, Sordin Supreme Pro-X are solid for $250-$300. Gucci option would be Peltor ComTac which vary in price depending on generation and features.

EDIT: If you want comms ability, like @Rent Tin said, just look into Peltor ComTacs.

What you are describing are known as Active ear protection, Various models are in use with Conventional Forces, Special operations groups (Delta Force, SEALS, Army Rangers, JTF2, the list goes on) and tens of millions of civillian gun enthusiasts. They do in fact filter out (or "remix" to be hearing safe in some cases) noises over a certain decibel range (gunshots, explosions, the roar of jet engines). Various manufacturers make various models with different features and price points, ranging from the Howard Leight Impact Sport and Walker Defense Razor's (which can generally be found for less than $100 but have less than Ideal sound performance, that is things sound less "natural", like $30 generic brand gaming headphones) to MSA Sordins or Peltor Comtacs ($4-800 depending on model, much better sound performance, can even tune them in some cases to give you an enhanced sense of hearing (that is, you can pick up noises that would likely be imperceptable or of indeterminate origin and have a better chance of classifying them), have various options for radio integration and some of the more expensive Peltor models even have this weird thing where it can wirelessly communicate with other Peltor headsets of the same model without the need for keying a radio up to like 30 feet or something) and then you have things like the Ops Core AMP series that goes for $1k Minimum.
Headsets can also be integrated into many models of helmets assuming they have the proper mounting hardware, Headsets can also be worn under helmets with various levels of comfort depending on the band configuration of the headset (whether conventional or a "neckband" model) and padding arrangement in the helmet.

For earpro I love sordin supremes. I have like 6 pairs of them because they make it a lot easier to teach new shooters when they can hear you and they're comfortable so they're not fidgeting and readjusting them the entire time. If you're wanting to use comms then peltor comtacs would be a better choice than sordins though.

There are versions available that have loose straps for the top of the head and a band for the back of the head instead. I haven't personally tried these ones, but they might be worth taking a look at if you are concerned about your massive melon.
 
I have a big head and massive ears that usually make over the ear headsets suck. Peltors and Sordins have both always been comfortable for me. Gel cup inserts are the way to go.

Why the fuck dont you put all your questions about hearing protection (or any other subject) in a single post, I dont know how you managed to ask 3 questions about hearing protection in 3 different posts when it could have easily been said in one. Like activate your nuerons and think about all the questions you want answered and generally what your looking for then put them in a single post big brain.

Please upgrade past Razors and Howards, you've got no clue what you're missing out on. You don't even need to drop a couple hundred on a communication headset. Just get one of the regular ones and you'll still be amazed.

Mozambiques are a good drill to practice this. You can do either: chest-chest-head, or chest-chest-dickhead.

I could just create a thread called "weapon accessories" or "kit" or whatever but guess what? I don't know shit. If I did, I wouldn't be asking. So no such thread exists.

If I had the kind of mind that could predict all possible concerns regarding energy and utility for every object and classification of object in existence, so much so that I could perfectly plan out a series of questions off initial concerns, I would probably be the single most valuable part of whatever logistical organizations exist and I would be paid millions of dollars to theorycraft.

But no, I'm not that, so it doesn't occur to me until I'm looking at giant headsets that there might be concerns with fit and pressure.

And the price of these things starts at $300 and goes up to thousands, so not getting shit that doesn't fit comfortably is worth writing a second post for.

Just do bill drills and El Presidente. One will help with recoil and getting used to the trigger and the other will help transitioning between targets.
