The gun industry has only gotten stronger in the last 25 years. It's not nearly as dramatic as you suggest lmao. Their deal only brought them disaster. I would say it's a mistake and nothing more.

how cheap are you talking exactly? Hi-points are exception guns for the poorest niggas in the country, they are very durable and the tests are plastered all over the internet, its basically like shooting a brick you bought for 99cents (think of the ergonomics of a brick)
Hi point as a company is literally catered to taking care of people who want a safe dependable gun AS cheaply as possible (you will be shooting a brick to reiterate) and they come in basically all the popular pistol calibers (they only make pistol caliber firearms)

So you want a CCW then? Unless you're talking about a home invasion.
In that case look for used S&W Shield, if you work any job that requires you dress you'll appreciate the slimmer pistol vs something like a Glock 19 or 26. Other than that, subcompacts from Bursa or Canik are budget options. I like Kahr, but they're contentious.
Check out Gun.Deals and Handgun Hero to compare sizes. If you end up buying a fullsize you will have to dress like a slob.

The hell is going on at YT lately? I'm not too deep into the guntuber sphere but the more well-known ones like DemoRanch, Forgotten Weapons and Garand Thumb pull big numbers, you'd think YT would do its best to keep people that are that much of a draw around. Half happy, half sad (because he surely hasn't much longer by now) that Paul Harrell won't have to deal with this bullshit much.
I've had that one in my recommends at one time and went straight "wait, what?"

You can yell at S&W. Lord knows that they deserve it now. But put yourself in the same shoes. You are arguably the premier US based gun manufacturer. You are the Glock of the time, every military, police, and Joe Judson of the era is buying from you.
And for the first real time in US history, every part of the current government is lobbying, successfully, to shut you down unless you do a couple of things to your guns. Then you're good.
I think it was gay of them to capitulate, but the first guy can't really be blamed. They got blindsided. We went, almost in the span of a year or so, from "Yeah, so this is the fully automatic Colt rifle, yeah, lemme get your cash and you can walk out with it." to "If your gun is any shade darker than silver, it's probably a weapon of war. In fact, that old revolver IS a weapon of war, you fucking shitstain you are responsible for all the hits I have been calling in and you will be punished for it unless you can lock it, but all the moms will still probably blame you anyway."

Some options to consider imo
Long guns:
Palmetto state armory ar15 380-400 on regular sale (no optic) (prices get pretty crazy on super sales they have sometimes though and you can get fully built ar's for like 400)
Mossberg500tactical(8 shot) -260-400 ish
Maverick 88 security(mossberg tactical clone but cheaper also made by mossberg lol) 200-300ish
high capacity carry guns:
Used glock 19/17/22 police trade in (2-400)
PSA dagger, its a glock 19 clone (260) (i have not bought a dagger but people seem to find them good from what ive seen)
Regular carry guns your actually going to be comfortable wearing all year round though would be like a used ruger lcp if your lucky in .357 for 400 (new its like 800) or a lc9 (300ish)
Just stay away from taurus, raven, bryco, jennings, sccy, jimenez, bersa, and others I forget right now lol

Black powder boot leg ass metal storm. Basically a huge cylinder of steel with 25 holes drilled in it, and each hole used like a mini muzzle loader.

At the very least if you decide to get another upper it'll drop right into the lower.

PSA has excellent CS and warranty support. Yes, the absolutely have QC fuck ups. They will make it right.

How could you forget Hi-Point, the handgun for the discerning nigger? Also avoid Cobra. I got to play with one and laughed my ass off when I saw the safety. Up is safe, down is live, but smacking the pistol even a little bit makes the lever fall down. Everything else on the gun was sticky, except for the useless safety.

thank you guys for your feed back. im currently thinking instead to spend that money towards a plate carrier, a plate, and some more ammo for my ak. i think a good plate and carrier with a stock pile of ammo would serve my needs better at the moment.

it's a nothing fancy century 74. i know they may not have the best reputation, but ive owned it for 10 years or more at this point and have shot literally thousands of rounds of surplus ammo through it with zero issues. i can even get pretty decent groupings out of it (for an ak that is) only issue i have is currently finding a good supply of cheap ammo in stock. 5.45 is just so difficult to find. and in any sort of SHTF scenario im just out of luck with it. (that's when i need the ar)
