I'm not much of a Gun expert (even though I should be) I would want to get her something small and preferably cute that she could use to defend herself.

edit: its an m9
is she familiar with firearms and shown a preference for a Glock? what does a picture of a subcompact Glock (that you posted) have to do with "an m9"? an "M9" pistol generally refers to the US Army designation for the Beretta 92F or 92FS.

have you both visited a gun rental place (many ranges offer this as do training facilities) to go over handling and safety, what fits the hand, what is intuitive to control and operate and what she's comfortable to carry on her person regularly but won't interfere with her lifestyle or fashion? a gun in a purse or left at home or that is annoying to shoot or overly expensive (both the cost of ammunition and parts as well as the gun itself) or complex is a gun that is largely worthless in the context of a daily carry for personal defense.

I only see them useful in the situation where you live in a state that restricts your 2A rights and you're trying to squeeze as much worth out a shitty situation.
That's exactly the case in Argentina where it used to be the only way you could get a carbine that was above .22lr and used detachable magazines, until a couple years ago where the local firearms control agency ANMAC started allowing AR-9 """pistols""" into the country, here we don't have any short barrel regulations and a handgun is still a handgun regardless if it has a stock or not so Roni kits were pretty popular, personally I'm looking to import a fixed magazine AR and a fixed mag M-14 to use stripper clips on since those are fine.

What's most important is it needs to be easy for her to use. Where is she defending herself? Is this for the home? Concealed carry? If it's just for home get her an S&W M&P EZ in 9mm, that's the quintessential wife/gf/mother gun and it has that title for a very good reason.

Don't fall for the "we took this gun and made it pink" marketing. Those guns aren't for women, they're for men buying guns for women. What matters most for your fiance is a gun that works for her in the role she wants, and that it's easy to use, especially if she is a firearm novice which is the impression I get. Unless you're trying to surprise her, take her to a good-sized gun store with a wide selection (or a gun show) and let her get her hands on a number of different guns.

Agree. 99% of guns men buy for women are bad choices for women, colored pink. You never want it to get left at home or rarely shot because she hates it.
Before Mrs. Balls and I got married, I planned to get her a gun to replace the little Galesi .22 I fixed that she was carrying. I did the standard "man buys gun for woman not into guns (yet)" and was looking at shit like Sig or kimber micros, Bersa Thunder, Ruger LCP and other various things that I would've liked to use or thought would be used little enough to matter.
Mrs. Balls did her own research and discovered the Beretta Cheetah, a gun I didn't even know existed at the time.
She actually carries it every day, cleans it, takes it shooting often, and it's her pride and joy so I know it'll never get left at home or forgotten somewhere.
Best possible thing you can do is to take her shooting, let her use a variety, get her into guns and carrying for self defense. She'll tell you what she wants.

I have the .380 version.
I like it.

Speaking of, PSA still has a bunch of Beretta 84s. You should get a couple.
That's exactly what she has, the 380 beretta is just colloquially called the Cheetah if I recall.. I know they have that new reissue one. Holy shit, they're cheap. Maybe I buy her a couple and she can dual wield.
Fun fact, the Cheetah's claim to fame is being the gun Trinity uses in the first Matrix. Especially visible during the "Dodge this." rooftop scene. The reason they used it is that Carrie Ann Moss was supposed to be holding a standard M9, but because she's tiny, the gun looked like a fucking Desert Eagle in her hands. So they switched it to the Cheetah, since it's just a mini M9.

sarco still has some good looking jericho 941 FS (the semi-compact) in 9mm with a 16 round magazine for $400. while it's certainly heavier and bulkier than some might like, it'll certainly be a good 9mm handgun for people that are recoil sensitive and has a very good aftermarket for parts or instruction. magazines are interchangeable with CZ 75 magazines for the most part.

Sarco is what's up. If anyone sees something in stock and doesn't mind a little wait. It's an hour to me and we can talk about setting up, I know them more than I should, so if you're looking at surp they probably will let me finger fuck or hand pick outta a box for you all.

Sarco was the only place selling barrel blanks for a reasonable price last week, as Green Mountain is OOS on their important stuff and everybody else wants fucking $400 for a motherfucking .22 barrel.
GM needs to get their shit rolling god damn

Thread tax: I found out one can ship themselves packages to a hotel they're staying at. In fact, I found out that's quite common. So that's how I'm getting my ammo to myself when I travel for training classes or matches that need 4-digit+ round counts
I picked this little tidbit up from Alton Brown. Seriously - UPS or FedEx are far less likely to lose your shit than any fucking airline and with the costs for baggage, it's likely to not even add much to the cost of the trip.

Bought a P2000, it was on sale for Glock prices; felt too good to pass up since the HK Tax was removed... and holy shit are HK serial numbers long.

If I can teach a 15-year-old girl to shoot a Glock 19 well enough, anyone should be able to teach their grown ass wife too. Carrying it is another thing, since women have their bodies and fashion style to take into consideration. They might have to step down to pistol that's a bit slimmer/smaller. Stuff like the PHLster Enigma is worth looking into. YouTube channels like She Equips Herself and Tessa Booth are good resources for women who want to carry.

Absolutely great resources there. One of the best parts about being a dude is that you can consider fashion to be optional - I do the graphic tee under an unbuttoned work shirt (and/or additional layers if it gets cold) thing, which I think might be the undeclared uniform for people that carry regularly.

Has there been any new guns in .30 super carry or is it basically dead? I'll admit I find it cool in terms of ammo, you're able to stack up a lot of it, but it just doesn't seem much is chambered in it

I'm waiting on something else other than a S&W Bodyguard 2.0 chambered in it before I get too excited, but the round is interesting, as it seems that you're getting 9mm performance out of a round that sort of fits in a .380 micro, which means that you can carry like 17 of them in a micro 9, which IS nice.

You can expand those 13 round 9mm magazines to 15 if you use the magazine follower and baseplate retainer in this kit.
P30/VP9 15 to 17rnd conversion kit.

And while you're there, pick up an HK45C extended magazine release, too.

Other than the Nighthawk Custom President and GRP, M&P Shield Plus and Shield EZ and a Hi-Point 3095 carbine, there doesn't appear to be any other offerings.

Not that I'm aware of, I'm not really sure it'll be going anywhere either......

In my situation it wouldn't be that practical because of mag restrictions as a shield mag in a G43X meets that, and companies only seem to be rechambering older guns. A single or 1.5 stack in 30 super with steel mags would be awesome, but I just don't see that happening in the American market.
People will say stuff like "size of .380 performance of 9", or "11.5 is basically 13.7" but in reality it's not and that's a fake and gay thing to say.
The idea is good but I see no reason to switch over for what it has to offer even in a situation with larger magazines.
