You do know that there's a NATO stock for the AUG that accepts regular AR/M16/STANAG magazines, right? And that they're readily available on the US civilian market? You can even buy an AUG with the NATO stock straight from the factory.

Besides, the AUG magazines are some of the best 5.56mm mags available. Very rugged and reliable. And MagPul even makes Pmags in the AUG pattern.
Yeah and you lose some features.

The AUG is interesting but has no Lightning bow to make the trigger better and again, having to buy another stock to use STANAG magazines is ridiculous in 2024.

I want an AUG A1 in green but $2500 for a meme gun is a bit much.

Maybe when the CMP finally runs dry (honestly I'd give them 15-20 years for M1s) someone will make new ones again. The CMP still has one or two more stockpiles to raid.
The current problem is retards maxing out their allowance on purchases to sell secondhand for a 100% markup, which is where those $2,500 field grade M1s are coming from.

I've never found the trigger on the AUG to be bad for a fighting rifle. It's perfectly adequate for it's job. It isn't a target rifle. Plenty of Austrians, Aussies, and Mics have qualified as expert marksmen with AUGs.

Edit: and I paid a lot less than $2500 for my AUG A3, but I have had it for many years. If I were going to get another bullpup I'd probably get the IWI X95. I almost got the old school Tavor, but was always worried about the trigger style mag release getting caught on the sling or my web gear and dropping the mag on me.

were they actually making receivers? most new M1s are using old stock receivers these days.
from 2002-2008 they were investment cast by Lithgow/ADI in Australia and imported and finish machined in the US by Century and while the casting was good, the machine work was hit or miss, often having issues with barrel threads in low serial number units and while assembly was good it was obvious that they were from mismatched parts and some commercial stuff. a key tell is the CAI marking on the side and ADI LITHGOW on the heel and the raceway having a sawtooth pattern vs circular machine marks. these could be zinc or manganese phosphated, but usually were zinc and a medium gray color.

Alphacasting Inc in Canada made receivers for Springfield Inc from 2005 through 2010 these were all serial numbers in the 7 million range. some were made by ADI as well, but Springfield Inc did all the machine work on them from the rotary casting and these were tested and assembled by Springfield Inc in the US and are middling to decent quality with a lot of care being selected for their M1D and Match rifles using either NOS or individually inspected/assembled and new parts. a tell is that these have the circular machine marks on the bolt raceway, very sharp journal on the inside of the heel for the tang on the firing pin, and usually have a very high number of USGI parts. most were never zinc phosphated and instead were always manganese phosphated, so are a dark grey but lack the slightly green tint you see on genuine rifles.

CMP and to a lesser extent Fulton still "make" M1 rifles, although they are assemblies rather than machined from forgings. some Danish and Italian receivers or barreled assemblies are still floating around and you sometimes see Argentinian receivers too. Korean ones are in rough shape but you sometimes get lucky.

That reminded me that the Obama administration blocked the import of a massive number of Korean M1 Garands and carbines and they still have not made it into the country to this day.

Just dropping some optics and eye knowledge. I'm not going to explain the science behind this but it's true.

If you have a higher minus prescription from astigmatism or other conditions like it, you will want to try green reticles on optics. It is more likely to be less distorted.

I also want to say, just because your dot isn't a perfect dot doesn't mean you're going to be less accurate or "can't use one". I promise you, it will be fine and you'll be just as good as anyone else who practices if you do as well. Target focus, not on the dot.

HK got the message and actually released a G19 sized VP9, and deleted those stupid finger grooves.
Hope they do the same with the P30 soon. (I mean, I kinda did by putting my P30 upper onto my P2k, but still...)

Meh. If you want a Glock without it being a Glock get a Sub $400 optics ready CZ P-10C, it even fits many G19 holsters. God tier factory trigger.

I already owned a plastic CZ once. If I'm going to be paying HK prices for magazines, I'll just buy an HK.
Mag prices suck for anything that isn't Glock. What's even dumber is HK and CZ mags are still much cheaper than Sig mags. HK or CZ are both like $25-28 but Sig shit despite being way more popular than either is like $35+ for a p365 mag. to get my fiancée mags is such an expense compared to other guns. Why are Sig mags almost as much as repro mags for a WW1 German handgun

They're huffing their .gov contract farts, they don't need to compete on the civilian side.

Like Colt used to be, before they got bought out by CZ, lmao.

Hey speaking of CZ, saw some CZ52s on Royal tiger... it's the OG czech round 7.62x45 not x39. Did some reading they are able to be turned into x39 (the 52/59) or lots of people are getting into 6.5 grendel... I kinda like this idea.

I'd be getting it as a gift and doing the cleaning (but not re-barrel) myself. I just want to triple check because it's a C&R I can still get it and gift it. I know sometimes there can be little weird loop holes. I know clearly I can buy and own it in my state, and whom I'm gifting can legally own weapons but, being C&R with the intent of gifting.

and you sometimes see Argentine* receivers too.
Really??? First time I'm hearing about it, FM or Bersa?

If it's FM let me know and I'll dig up some info through their records, the only M1 Garand I know FM made was the one during the '55 trials, they also made an STG-44, a Johnson rifle and the FAL.
