what are legal and practical uses of a m4 m203 launcher? I feel that I need one but I don’t know why. It just… calls to me.

Actually I know a guy who uses his 40mm to crop dust and plant seeds. He's a pretty god damn based /k/ommando.

So thank you for the info on the vz 52. I understand I do shoot, but mil surp is my thing. Working on it owning it etc. I put some thought into it and also I like keeping things closer to stock, even if I restore or upgrade the right way I'm still kinda bubbaing it.

So for much less money I snagged one of those C grade vetterils pre cut into 6.5 since I already own a Kennedy Killer Karbine and dies. I'm sure it'll be one fuck load of a project it's been sitting around in Ethiopa for a 100 years but it's an antique so no FFL costs cheaper shipping and only a C note. Not that Mrs Basso cares but I do think she's kinda leaning on me less guns, get the turbo project on her car going.

I hope everyone's having a great safe 2025 so far and I have a really good feeling about this year for us gun owners/nerds. Hopefully it's not "dude we all get free 'salt rifles" because of ww3 drafts lol. My tea reading skills aren't the best.

Had an issue with my Henry Big Boy in .357. Magazine tube started to fail on me, wouldn't reliably feed the last round and the follower would stick if I depressed it by hand. Emailed Henry and 3 days later I was informed a new magazine tube assembly was en route to me at no charge. The stock was loose at the tang but I was able to fill the void by cutting two shims from a soda can and a thin strip of cardboard. Now it's rock solid. Not what I expected to deal with for a rifle I spent over a grand on (Case hardened steel receiver) but I'm happy Henry is making good on their customer service, and the stock repair was easy to do.

on my old .45-70 Henry the mag tube would walk out under recoil and the barrel band was not holding anything at all. Henry took it back for service and replaced the mag tube, barrel band, fore-end wood, barrel, and sights free of charge. basically only thing original i got back was the butt stock and receiver. 60% of a new gun for free. pretty cool.

Ruger has been the same in my experience. they once took back a Vaquero that i could not put back together for the life of me and re-assembled it at no charge AND replaced all the springs.

I have astigmatism too and green dot sights are not a good fit for me. I used to be a fan of the Trijicon MRO before I found out the Aimpoint Duty RDS is a better, comparably priced sight. A few years back when the US was in Coof Panic Mode the red MRO was damn hard to find so I bought a green one when I found it in stock. Even with vision correction designed to account for astigmatism the dot on that sight is a green smear. Anyone else here have a similar experience?

A few years back when the US was in Coof Panic Mode the red MROs was damn hard to find so I bought a green one when I found it in stock. Even with vision correction designed to account for astigmatism the dot on that sight is a green smear. Anyone else here have a similar experience?

I had the same experience with astigmatism and the MRO. The 'green' was also very yellow. I did not care for it and passed it along.

I've been lucky with my astigmatism as dot sights work just fine for me regardless of color. Though, I do find green optics easier for my eye to "pick up" than red. I wish the Vortex holo sight I have on my Origin 12 was green instead of red. The 3x ACOG Mini I have on my AUG is a green horseshoe style BDC reticle and I love it.

For me green is less "starry", but this is me comparing two Holosun dots (403 vs 403GR) that are identical save for the emitter - I think why it works better for me is that I can run it at a lower brightness level and still pick up the dot easily, though. I also have fewer issues with the ACSS dots with a chevron reticle (even in red), likely because it isn't just a dot.

primaryarms prism sights have the clearest reticle i've seen but that having been said trijicon's tier has always been out of my price range. have you ever used a gold dot reticle? i don't remember if they were for astigmautists or color blind people. they interest me but i don't want the ghost of three hundred bucks or more haunting me if i didn't like it.

Related to this thread's interests, I gave a 7.5" pistol gas AR upper i built a couple of years ago to the father of a friend's sister in law for Xmas along with a pistol brace (both of these came from my parts bin) along with his actual gift, which was a JPE captive recoil assembly since he felt that his favorite AR felt "rough", which was just him noob reacting to the spring scraping along the buffer tube along with a milspec CH.

He'd expressed interest in a pistol build, which is why I was keen on giving him the other parts - that, and I wasn't using them.

I think I'm gonna be doing AR-15 tech support for this guy now until the end of time.

There's just something stylish about them, and the flexibility to shoot .38 special as well as .357 magnum appeals to me as well. I guess the only advice I know so far is "Avoid Hilary Hole guns" but anybody have a snubby they love?

Only thing I'd advise is to try one out first. They are more recoil and harder to aim than I though they would be when I was in the "that's cool" phase.

Snubnoses .357's hurt with actual .357 magnum ammunition. That said, they are more devastating that .38 Special loads just at the expense of harsher recoil, louder report, incredible muzzle flash, and less longevity in a gun that is trimmed down to be as light and small as possible. 3" is the lowest I personally go for .357 revolvers, and even then I generally just handload hot .38 Specials to shoot from them. A combination .38 Special\9x19 Luger cylinder would be sweet though

S&W Model 60 or Ruger SP101, both available in short barrels and both very good options - nobody will say you're undergunned with either option. Colt's Cobra is nice but i dislike alloy frames in magnum calibers. a Rossi M877 is a good budget option as it's made on S&W tooling for the model 60 with some minor changes to parts combined with cheaper labor to bring the overall cost down. still a solid revolver and a step up from later offerings after Taurus bought Rossi. Armscor imports the Alfa-Projekt AL3.1 and sells it under the Rock Island Armory brand as a pretty decent revolver from the Czech Republic.

Yeah this is right. My friend got a snubnose cause I bought a 686 and he thought that a 4" barrel was to much to conceal. He barely uses his snubby while I've carried my 686 in a shoulder rig under a jacket. Though try it out anyways.

go snub nose full size frame for it. My python (3 inch model) has been my EDC since i got it and it's not been a hindrance at all. I got a good El paso saddlery (#2 "thumbrake) holster for it and barely notice it on my hip. great gun, just heavy enough to soak up magnum recoil but light enough to forget about. 3 inch is the happy medium between snub (2 1/2in) and duty (4in)

I could always use more Czech guns looking at what was generally available, these did catch my eye as what I was looking for in a snub. A lot of the smaller ones I've seen don't have an external hammer, which I would rather have. To posters saying "they hurt to shoot in .357 mag" I can imagine so! The very minimal sights are also a sign it's for close engagement, but it's under the 3" barrel recommended as well. It could be an option for carry, but personally I'd probably just use it as a fun gun for shooting with friends unless I had no other choice.

It's a future dream anyway, so I've made no decisions today, but appreciate the feedback

I have a terrible Astigmatism (no dot at all without vision correction), and I can use my Aimpoint just fine, so long as I have my glasses on.

I can still make out the dot in the "starburst". Not ideal, but easily workable. Green does work better, holo sights like an Eotech are usually much better.

Anecdotally, I inherited a couple Ruger speed sixes in .357 magnum with 3" barrels, and actually years later, someone found the ammo the original owner bought to use with them (this was a bit of a "hoarders" situation so it was literally buried, but a dry hoard fortunately): some Fiocchi .357 magnum ammo.

There were exactly 6 rounds missing from the box of 50, and not one round more. I don't think they liked the experience.

Edit: Speaking of speed sixes, both of mine are smooth "DAO" hammers (though if I half-cock and pull it back with the hammer face it will catch and act as an SA with a VERY light break, obviously I'm not doing that with the gun loaded), I've searched around a bit and it sounds like I could just buy a compatible SA hammer with a SA spur and swap, is this more or less accurate? Problem is most of what I found was about taking an SA hammer and replacing with a factory smooth DAO hammer, not the other way around...

In general I've never been a big fan of AKs ever since my days of building them for Vector Arms. But underfolder AKs I loathe with the burning hate of one thousand suns. They are one of the most uncomfortable stocks I've ever felt on a rifle. I can only imagine how much more unpleasant the experience would be shooting an underfolder AK chambered in 8mm Mauser with a stubby barrel.
