Yes. A real gun.Maybe not the right thread to ask but I saw an add for, what I think was like a pepper ball gun. It fires little rubber balls of pepper spray at people with compressed air as a sort of non-lethal alternative to carrying a pistol around. Anybody got any experience with that sort of thing? Usable by an older lady? Any recommendations?
If someone or something is presenting enough threat to merit a pepper ball, they are presenting enough threat to merit a 9mm hole through the vitals.Maybe not the right thread to ask but I saw an add for, what I think was like a pepper ball gun. Yes. A real gun.
I agree but it's not for me, and I won't be able to convince her to carry a real gun. I would rather she have some means of defense that doesn't require her to be right in someone's face.If someone or something is presenting enough threat to merit a pepper ball, they are presenting enough threat to merit a 9mm hole through the vitals.
Calmly explain how it’s not really a defense and show her videos of druggies just shrugging off everything, even bullets, but only stop when they’re filled with enough lead it’s their bodies which decide to shut down. I had a coworker I taught to shoot because pepper spray didn’t really stop the random homeless man from punching her repeatedly.I agree but it's not for me, and I won't be able to convince her to carry a real gun. Just get pepper spray instead. Its more easily transportable/concealable and no one will mistake your little canister of OC spray as a deadly weapon. I'd recommend it over basically every other non-lethal defensive options (besides stuff like situational awareness). People who say its not effective usually haven't experienced it firsthand. I've only been exposed to it to an extremely indirect degree and it was very unpleasant. Would not recommend.Maybe not the right thread to ask but I saw an add for, what I think was like a pepper ball gun. It fixes the only issue I have with the 1911 (revolver-tier capacity). Go for it.9mm 1911...
Blasphemy or blast happy?
Guess I'm going to find out.
I'm going to echo the others and say it's not a good idea. Presenting a gun-shaped object is not great because it's escalating the situation in a way their brain will see as a more lethal threat than intended and have more dire results in the case that it does not work.Maybe not the right thread to ask but I saw an add for, what I think was like a pepper ball gun. .38 Super is an alternative choice for that vintage feel but 9mm 1911s have been a treasured piece for decades now.9mm 1911...

38 super is what the 9x19 should have been.9mm 1911...

Still sad it never made the jump to double stacks. Now it only exists in the ash heap of history (Mexico).38 super is what the 9x19 should have been.
It looks pretty sweet, especially with a stock 65 degree safety. I'd definitely pick up a Glock AR grip if they sold furniture separately, they would give Magpul a run for their money.Glock makes an AR
It just looks like it's part of the geometry of the lower, it looks like they have an ambi bolt catch above the magazine release. Also maybe I'm just dumb but the lower is two different colors, and the transition is a straight line just forward of the hammer pin, modular magwells?
in police use (from my own experience as well as others) pepper balls have a worse chance of working than tasers and tasers are only like 3/4 effective. typically the contents of the plastic (not rubber) balls is an oil-based capsaicin, much like pepper spray (sabre is my preferred supplier). it creates a burning sensation that cannot be flushed with water and sticks to skin and clothing very easily; additionally it is blinding if in the eyes much the same way as any other irritant is.pepper ball gun
bear spray is formulated thinner for farther travel distance when sprayed. to make up for the thin viscosity, the concentration of capsaicin is increased slightly. this often goes over the legal limit of concentration for self defense against people because beyond a certain point the fluid is permanently blinding and is treated as intent to cause grievous bodily harm when used against people because people are not bears or similar wild animals.bear spray would be a much better idea.
I've been sprayed by LEO issued stuff. It sucks but if I was determined to hurt someone it wouldn't have stopped me. That's quite a bit different from a ball launcher. Much worse. If she won't get a gun then I'd have to suggest a taser over spray. A real one. And a real home security system. For outside the house yeah a gel spray is probably the best you can get like from Sabre. She needs to understand the risks of her own safety with spray. It can absolutely get on you or be in the air enough to also affect you. Some people have very harsh reactions to it even when not hit by it. If she wears contact lenses that's an extra hazard if she's contaminated they need to be removed ASAP, but she also should not touch her eyes or rub her eyes if it's on her hands. A big hazard with spray is if the person doesn't stop and they contaminate you and you've never been under the effects of it before and they have, you're going to have a bad fucking time.Maybe not the right thread to ask but I saw an add for, what I think was like a pepper ball gun. That's debatable but I will concede on the grounds of legal suggestion.because people are not bears or similar wild animals
CA Penal Code 22810 covers "tear gas" (pepper spray and MACE) legality and use as well as concealment. CA Code of Regulations (Title 3, Division 6, Subdivision 2, Chapter 3, Article 10) lumps bear spray as a pesticide used to control wild flora and fauna. on the surface bear spray (and to a limited extent, OC spray as well) is not a "tear gas" for personal protection, which is the regulated allowed use. That's debatable but I will concede on the grounds of legal suggestion.
Out of curiosity, why not? Carrying something other than a gun for self defense is sort of like picking up a pair of pliers to drive a nail. It can work, but it's not exactly the best tool for the job.I agree but it's not for me, and I won't be able to convince her to carry a real gun.
