In a slight tangent, the worst fuddlore out there about AKs is that the selector goes from semi to full auto and then semi, and that the reason would be because Russian doctrine has the full auto as the main tactic when using the weapon. Anyone handling an AK in any situation outside of a static range quickly realizes that the reason for that order is actually because when you disengage the safety under duress, you hit it quite hard and thus you go to semi, rather than full auto.

If you're shooting steel you're a fucking retard if you aren't.
If you're just shooting into a berm or hunting or w/e you're probably fine. I always wear it because the opportunity cost is zero and the upside is pretty nice.

Yes, you absolutely should. When your vision is gone you cannot get it back. It's not just being black out blind, but legally blind. Central vision loss, imagine your entire life you have a giant black void right in the center of your vision. Even if you aren't shooting steel I encourage it. People have gone blind or almost lost their vision from just doing yard work without eye pro. I've seen it many times in person from various causes. I like my Leupold Katmai's which are ballistic rated sunglasses, but you don't need to spend a lot for ANSI rated sunglasses or glasses. Get a pair of polarized ANSI sunglasses for everyday use, and you may even save your vision in a car crash. Iirc there's actually a girl who founded a line of sunglasses because she lost her vision in a car accident from debris.

Anyone here got some trigger time on a Special Service Rifle? A company one of my family members works for allowed him to purchase the rifle as part of a project they're overseeing. It's a chonker! I'd never run a .300 Norma Mag before. We ran it out to 800m, so just barely into LR distances.

The Norma Mag makes me think of a .300 PRC magnum (yes, I know it pre-dates the that cartridge). With the big ol' muzzle brake on it the rifle the recoil was rather tame.
 
I've been checking around the usual places for firearms references and the like and I'm curious as to if anyone knows of any (preferably accurate but I'll take anything close at this point) reference models for the Beretta 92's magazine catch and release system. If someone has the dimensions for the mag catch bushings I'd be interested in just those as well. I can find references and STEP models of plenty of shit but this weapon specifically seems to elude me.

Do you mean the Beretta 92 with the heel button? Or the release by the trigger guard?

the 92/92S with a heel release doesn't use a bushing, it's a spring and button captive with a pin. the hammer spring cap is retained with a roll pin. the 92SB and F series have two bushings on the magazine release retained by a spring pushing them apart and into recesses in the magazine catch itself. i assume he's referring to those.

for small parts like this i generally just source the part itself or the entire pistol and disassemble it to blueprint the part to keep at as technical reference.

I really don’t understand the appeal of extreme budget brands. These companies bet on the fact that most people don’t actually shoot their guns.

back in those days firearms were a lot less sophisticated and much smaller of an industry and the entire modern concept of ballistics didn't really exist. i think that back then, in the gun space, people were a lot more willing to take a position that was more image focused than fact focused. You can still see it in revolver boomers where they still take positions just to spite other people's positions and nobody is talking about reality. i think that's why they love to do odd things like shill 32 revolvers
 
So in the category of things I didn't know but now do. Apparently ruger's MK4 light's top pick rail and rear sight screws aren't locktighted in, or possibly simply don't have enough. Didn't keep a close enough count on rounds but estimating boxes it's around 750-1000 before it stopped shooting accurately with the red dot and we figured out that the pick rail worked itself loose. Shortly after fixing the pick rail i noticed that the unused rear sight's mounting screws were almost out. I'm thinking purple on the sight and red or rockset or the rail.

I carried one off and on for years. It's ok, and does exactly what you need it to, but there are better options at that price point in my opinion, and if I knew what I knew now I wouldn't buy it. It conceals fine, have no issues, but I can't compare it to the 19 since I haven't shot it. I can say that recoil is very manageable, even with the few +p loads I have put through it, but +p+ felt like it worked the slide way too hard so I would advise avoiding that. I still carry it routinely mostly due to familiarity and not caring if I beat the shit out of it, so I would still class it as a decent pistol.

Well I got my Gen 3 Kriss Vector ordered. Went with 9mm since it's mostly going to be a range toy and you can get 500rnds of 9mm ball for fairly cheap. I'm going to SBR it on a Form 1 as soon as I can. It should arrive in about 7-9 business days, but my FFL said that the distributor it's coming from usually has a fast turnaround time so it might be here even sooner.

The vector is neat but after actually getting one, I wouldn't recommend it to others unless they care more about coolness than actual practicality. It really doesn't get the chance to shine in semi auto only, even if it is really neat. Mine doesn't seem to like light loaded ammo, so I recommend not cheaping out on your range food, or even going 9mm NATO for it; at the very least I would try a few different brands before committing to one.

I never have faith that factory mounted rails that aren't integral to the receiver (regardless of platform) will stay put, so the first thing I did to my Mk IV was to pull the rail, degrease all the relevant surfaces and use blue LocTite - never had an issue with it for a couple of years. Did the same when I swapped that rail out for a TandemKross RMS-C mount and I'm pretty sure it'll be fine too.
