Not being in the US I had never looked into gun prices; for whatever reason I didn't expect them to be so affordable.
Yeah it actually is pretty amazing how cheap guns are, but there really isn't all that much to em in terms of machining. Like your average handgun these days is basically a brick of metal with a few cuts matched to an injection molded polymer frame. Then since guns are durable, used guns are even cheaper and basically just as good as new ones since most shooters absolutely never put enough rounds through their firearms to actually wear them out.

Someone told me a Glock 20 19 (my dumbass misremembered and wrote 20 :lossmanjack:)as a hand gun suggestion. You guys have any other suggestions for a first time hand gun?

Listen, here's what you do. You get a glock 19. Then you get it milled or you get a decent optics plate (my recommendation is forward control design MOS plates) then you get an optic that costs more than the gun, then you get a x300T and then you never shoot the thing like all the redditors

or just get glock 19 and a lotta ammo and shoot gun often.

While there is nothing bad about a glock and they are very reliable guns I personally don't enjoy shooting them. I do enjoy shooting a walther quite a bit and my ruger lcp max is better to me than any glock i've ever handled. Also have a sig 365xl that is okay. I'd try shooting a Glock 19 and if you don't hate it you should be good.

They need to make more grip modules. The stock one is too small for my hands. I run the large backstrap on my G45

I thought the Magpul models were already on the market.. how long can it take to produce a piece of plastic with no other moving parts than a magazine catch?

Honest question - have affordable full size hammer-fired 9mm semis completely died out? Siggers not allowed, the closest things I've found that can be bought new are Beretta 92s and CZ 75s in the $700-$800 range. I suppose that's about as cheap as they can get, considering the additional tooling required in the manufacturing over polymer frame + striker designs.

Even if they were available, I still can’t add back straps to make them big enough for my hands. To shoot pistols effectively you need room for your support hand on the grip.
I, myself specifically in this case, had success with the "revolver" hold, as demonstrated by Paul suggesting its use with the 92fs to nobody in particular but as an option and specifically to large-frame handguns,

regardless of the grip size on guns as opposed to the thumb-forward hold. But that's just me.

Bersa is about the only one I can think of that meets all 3 criteria with the TPR X/XT. They're actually really nice, reminds me of the p 89 not as bulky.

S&W is still making the csx e, it's only 3.5 at the longest though.

Poly striker 9s are the crocs of guns. They work fine and I'm happy for people who enjoy them. They're just so boring.

Glock 19 is fine, there’s nothing wrong with Glocks. I carry a 19 sometimes despite the fact my one true love for CCW is pocket guns. I’d still recommend a Taurus tx-22 for a first gun along with electronic ear muffs, and about 2-3k rounds of ammo. Get bulk ammo in 500 round bricks and a few sticks of cci stingers or minimags to see what actually good 22 ammo is like.

The tx22 is not as good of a gun, it is not as effective of a gun, it if worse at putting down a bad guy who wants to kill you. However, it is cheap, the ammo is much cheaper than 9mm, and it’s a great gun to learn whether you want to stick with the whole buying guns thing. If you like shooting it and having it then buy the Glock. If you don’t like it then you aren’t out a whole lot of money and you still have a gun of some variety.

I don’t see any of the top guys doing this, and I’m sure there is good reason. I’m interested in performance based shooting and being fast and accurate.
