Someone told me a Glock 20 19 (my dumbass misremembered and wrote 20 :lossmanjack:)as a hand gun suggestion. You guys have any other suggestions for a first time hand gun?
S&W M&P 2.0, CZ P10, Walther PDP, or a Sig P365 X Macro. I suggest you go for optics ready models. Don't be afraid to check used or police trade-in stuff either.
I don’t see any of the top guys doing this, and I’m sure there is good reason. I’m interested in performance based shooting and being fast and accurate.
Examine what people like JJ Racaza, Eric Grauffel, Christian Sailer, or Ben Stoeger are doing with their grip. They're all a little bit different but enough overlap between then all you can use as a good starting point to create your own.
Anyone have good recommendations for a bolt-action in .308? I've seen the Tikka T3X as something that's inexpensive and good out of the box, but I'm open to suggestions.
The Tikkas are good. Check our Bergara B-14s, Ruger American, used CZ 550s, Winchester Model 70s, or Savage 110s.
I've heard good things about CZ's bolt action rifles but I think like their over-under shotgun line, they may be made in Turkey.
Maybe the 600 series is, but the 550 series wasn't.
I'm a big guy but not really an experienced fighter, I would absolutely carry a gun if I could but is there any alternative self defense tools that might save me from some cracked out thieves or "inner city youth" I could run into near major american cities that won't get me in trouble with state cops?

I'd be open to anything.
A sap will fuck someone up good, but you have to be hand-to-hand close. Same with knives or clubs or other similar weapons. That means you need to practice regularly and you have to be willing to enact that level of violence. Pepper spray also can work well but you have to be sure you don't get yourself accidentally.

Whatever you decide, get trained and make sure you practice regularly. I can't stress that part enough. Be safe, dude.

Has anyone owned one of the Turkish M4 clones? I'm looking for a shotgun and the M4 would be great. But paying $2k for a scattergun isn't something I want to do.
I've heard pretty good things. Yeah spending that kinda money for a tube it should be some fancy thing at that price. I actually got my dad one of those dirt cheap IIRC 80 bucks or something Turk 870 clone. It's not bad, now I know how to do trigger jobs, I did that. Funny to think I needed a big box of sand paper (I was taught run 800/1000/2000 but I'm open to listening to ideas hint hint to a sandwich that might lurk) I spent like 13 bucks... like 1/6 the price lol.

It eats what ever I put in it including 3" mag. It's same corp that does the m4 clone. So that's my side review if that's remotely useful or I just wasted your time reading my autism.

In regards to a "first" gun, I hate hate hate "best" everyone has different hands from size to feel to etc, now I am not a 1337 sniper, I am a collector, a nerd and gun guy. I do shoot, a lot. I silly post a lot but I try to stay humble, but I'm probably a better shot and know a little more than I lead on.

Know what works for you and I'll give you the same info I gave to my (at time) gf now wife. So I hope you understand how vested this was. #1 you need to be confident with a weapon. If for some fucking reason a 22lr derreinger makes you feel safe. Take that over a stendo mag draco.

Now if you put a gun to MY head and said "what is best gun for new shooter or carry" G19. It just fucking works. It's the Ford F150 of guns. For things not guns, I'll ask but Mrs realy "shouldn't" have a fire arm at her job, but has this bright light with a siren. I dunno brand but it's blinding and screams like 110+ DB. If you know it's coming it's still loud, chirping it not aware you're stunned and hopefully can deesclate etc. I'll ask her in the morn what brand, but it's not going to cause a wound, it will stop a grown man.

Also not trying to sound like a badass but as an experienced hunter, and someone who's traded blood with his prey I know I CAN pull the trigger. God willing I will never point a weapon at a person and have to do it. But there's no shame, and you need to be real can you actually do it. Fear, the moment etc hit but you're in a world of fuck if you point a gun and can't do it. No it doesn't make you a sissy if you can't kill. It takes a REAL man to know it's not you.

Best of luck with your new career and job.

Also I'm tempted to get one of those cheap Beretta Cordos.

Last Q before I buy one of two stupid things, Do the Chinese clone TT33 have safeties? Oddly I don't own a tok, and because first I'm a collector I don't want a Safety on mine. It's not like it'll be my condition 0 carry.

Hey I'm hoping this is the right thread for this but i need some advice.

I am in the process of earning my CDL A and becoming a trucker. I intend to get a job in the industry as soon as possible (hopefully in a month or two) and while I would prefer to drive local or within my state (Texas) the chances are high that the only type of trucking job I will get without experience is long haul interstate.

I am worried about self defense given the current state of America and the different places I will probably have to go. I can't really carry a gun with me in my truck given different state laws and the fact that many operators don't allow you too but I feel I need some type self defense.

I'm a big guy but not really an experienced fighter, I would absolutely carry a gun if I could but is there any alternative self defense tools that might save me from some cracked out thieves or "inner city youth" I could run into near major american cities that won't get me in trouble with state cops?

you might consider paintball guns with pepperball rounds, my uncle was a trucker and favored the Tire thumper a weighted baton used to check the firmness of your tire's air. batons are super underated tools with training, however, your best weapon is situational awareness and spotting shenanigans before any future astrophysicists get reparations directly from you. consider taking some self defense classes and always remember thieves typically work in packs so defense should be about retreating somewhere safe

I wouldnt do it. TFTB tested a few and theyve all been awful, breaking/failing hard after a few hundred rounds.

If you want a quality auto shotgun but dont want to break the bank buy a Beretta A300 for $800ish or a Beretta 1301 for $1200ish.

Turkshit on paper will work and occasionally people get guns that cycle correctly without beating itself to death but it's a gamble on that cheap price tag. I'm seconding the A300 recommendation, if only because you're looking at the M4 specifically and not a do-it-all setup.

Apologies if this is a retarded idea, I’m completely new to this but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask.

I’m pretty busy atm and I work late, so I don’t know how much time I can spend at a range, but I thought about getting a CO2 gun and use it to practice in my yard until I’m freed up. I know it would be the same at all but it seems better than nothing and would be okay to start practicing. I just feel stupid and like Jayce for asking but whatever.

I don't think that would be all that useful as practice for real shooting. Most air pistols have a different manual of arms compared to the real counterpart. Also, as far as I'm aware, the accuracy on CO2 pistols are not good enough to give you useful information. But its better than nothing and might be fun. If your hurting for time I would suggest you find a range (preferably outdoor) that sells a day pass so you can spend a whole day there. Personaly, I prefer one big range day a month as opposed to a bunch of smaller trips.

The Bergara B14 is extremely nice and quite affordable. Ruger Precision is actually a really nice rifle too. I don't know how different they are between the different configurations for each caliber they offer, I shot the 6.5 Creedmoor version a couple of times.

I have also heard the CZ550 is good but I haven't actually touched one.

If you want to spend $0-5, you can get a snapcap (or don't) and practice dry firing in your house. Do not underestimate how useful dry firing is.

If you wanna spend some coin, you can get a Mantis and practice with that. I've looked at getting one and its pretty expensive but it does have a lot of guided training on it.

Airsoft has its place for training but not here, I think.

Are you talking airsoft or a rifled bore? I'd recommend the latter for more consistent accuracy. I haven't studied air guns but my understanding is that the supply is vast, and some models deliver at least .22lr accuracy at <100 ft. ranges.

This is also a good idea. From my recent experience it'd seem it pays to learn a consistent trigger pull that doesn't cause your sights to drift while aiming.

Hey there kiwi crew hope everyone is doing well, here are 2 more projects I will probably never finish ( because I'm constantly jumping into new projects.) Need to send of the Sig 556 to get the rear sight and optic rail welded on and the c93 needs a paddle mag release and MAYBE and optic rail too. Cat for moral boosting purpose.

For non firearm options maglight makes d cell flashlights in the 4-6 battery options and those make a excellent whacking stick that if you are asked why you had it on you it was for checking on something with the load.

Those are always a good tool/weapon that's hard to argue with. Years ago I gave the security guard at my workplace one of those big mag lights because the company didn't want armed security and this dude was out there in an industrial area alone and unarmed with a pocket flashlight. With a belt ring "holster" it was perfect and even the most buttfuck of a cop or supervisor isn't going to question the security guard for patrolling with a big mag light you can buy at any hardware store. I don't think any American LEO is going to question a trucker having a D cell mag light or tire thumper, it's not the UK (yet). A breaker bar with the appropriate socket for your lug nuts is also a safe bet and I would have one of those on me as a driver whether I could carry a gun or not.

Something like Coolfire or a bb/pellet/airsoft gun? The former is kind of expensive with the proper laser target setup and widely used as a training aid. I think airsoft can be an underrated training tool especially if you can find a replica of your carry gun, obviously there isn't the recoil/noise component to the same extent as a real gun but you can work on your draw and acquisition quite easily and that is a transferable skill that isn't always possible to practice at ranges unless you have more "tactical" friendly ones or public land.

I would make a snarky comment about limp wristing causing a malfunction but that fish broke his rod so Ill give him a pass.

Very nice. Have you heard of the tac latch? Its a drop in paddle release that works on any of the HK rifles. Doing the paddle release yourself is kind of a pain in the ass without a drilling fixture. I've added the proper paddle release to a few CETME's and its sucked everytime. You can't use the original retainer pin so you have to drill for an undersized pin and install a bushing inside of the latch. ATF says its a machine gun otherwise. Some of the Pakistani import MP5's have the proper latch but they have to weld a blocker into the receiver IIRC. Might be worth considering if you want to save time and money.

It's going to be converted into a HK33K and I already have all the paddle mag hardware and barrel. Just waiting on free tax stamps in Jan to send it to my gun smith. I was told that the KAC airsoft HK rails were pretty legit so I wanna try my hand at one of those too.
