DO NOT GET THIS PIECE OF SHIT. I am telling you from personal experience. Shell out the extra cash and just buy a Ruger 10/22 with rails if you are so inclined. Rear sight fell off after ~150 rounds of bulk .22 LR, and Paul Harrel's experienced a similar fate. Even if you are running a red dot, that is a horrendous flaw and indicative of other serious issues with the firearm.

Other issues: mag release sucks ass, seating 25 round 10/22 mags is a pain, and almost everything on the gun is low quality polymer. My Savage Model 64 is, without an ounce of hyperbole, a superior firearm in every way.

Only pro: no feeding issues.

Aliens came to market at that price, Brno Field Pistols debuted at $7k. People regularly buy $4200 Staccato XC's. These will sell, people will buy them, They won't buy very many of them but they will buy them.

And I can almost guarantee that they're going to do the Laugo/Brno model of rolling out wth a super expensive model and then later doing a still expensive but substantially cheaper model, which while not by much will increase sales.

Does anyone have an IO AK? I have one that I never use because I am wary of the cast trunion. Is the whole cast vs forged trunion overblown?

I build AKs and all of IOs stuff is super sketchy. Rivets are not done correctly so eventually you will lose headspace and have a bad situation.

I build AKs and all of IOs stuff is super sketchy. Rivets are not done correctly so eventually you will lose headspace and have a bad situation.

Anything I can do to fix it? Maybe have a gunsmith modify or refurbish it? Or is it not worth the risk/cost? (I haven't fired it in about 8 years, but I have about 300 rounds through it.)

Its still a piece of shit, you'd need to send it to an ak builder and have them redo the rivets but it still dosent fix the cast parts issue. You COULD nab a surplus front trunion and bolt but at that point the cost to get the new rivets and new parts installed would cost more than the guns worth. You could sell it and get a WASR 10 if you like AKs or gamble with PSA AKs. WBP makes good stuff that dosent blow up but its commercial spec. All of this is irrelevant if you don't shoot your ak much anyways.

On their site this is described as a recoil buffer, integral to the "bolt carrier". Wonder if this would preclude them from making a polymer frame variant

Its not different than any other polymer pistol. it just comes off the frame. I don't like it because i like the feel of cold steel and aluminum. not any objective reason.

If i had not just bought a 2,000 dollar rifle and a 1,300 dollar revolver I'd be sorely tempted to buy this Sako:

Outstanding value for price. every Sako I've handled has been quality. nice stock, irons and in the classic 8x60mmS!

I think I want to my next purchase to be either a .30 luger or some sort of black powder rifle. I only own one of the American .22lr lugers but I've shot a .30 luger and I loved it. I swear I've never been more accurate with a pistol before. Black powder also has my interest because I 3D printed one of those PEN15 launchers and its actually really fun to play with. I know its no-where near BP but I imagine its as fun.

Considering how much a good 2011 costs for a design invented over 100 years ago, $5200 for an extremely innovative new gun from a small company is a fair price (and that price also includes a Pelican case, Trijicon SRO, and 5 magazines so the actual gun is probably "only" $4k).
