Nobody but Franklin and a small subset of lawyers with in the DOJ could really tell you because as far as I know the settlement agreement isn't public

But maybe? I dunno, The DOJ many or may not have accidentally invented an entirely new kind of intellectual property so who knows what's going on

The Antithesis has made me wonder why there arent more prominent Jews within the gun sphere. Not to mention pistol braces and FRTs, listening to the Franklin Arms talking head might as well have fucking Hava Nagila ramping up in volume in the background with its amount of blatant word-of-the-law Jewry involved

The DOJ settlement letter talks about this gun being a firearm chambered in 45 long colt/.410 shot shells, which has been an existing loophole in the NFA since at least 1993 when the Thunder Five came out. I don't believe anybody has ever made a semi-automatic gun in that caliber before but it's functionally the same category of gun as the taurus judge. What i don't understand is that the guns being sold are all chambered in 5.56, not .45 long colt

For the purpose of legal argument there is no meaningful distinction between 5.56 and .45 long colt, so the same argument could apply to an ar-15, but in practicality 5.56 shotshells don't really exist. Did they just... make 5.56 shotshells in the bare minimum legal capacity, so they could justify selling a rifled ar-15 as a shotgun?

Here's the actual judicial decision from February that would set events in motion for the DOJ Settlement with Franklin

There is no mention of any patent (granted or pending) or specific mechanical adaptation to the Antithesis (there is also no claim from Franklin about any patent pending or granted) that proves that it was "designed" to fire multi projectile ammunition so the only logical conclusion I can reach is that the Court and Federal Government is recognizing that Franklin has the (claimed exclusive) power (or at least Franklin claims to have )to with their minds make SBR's that aren't SBR's because they "designed" them (with their brain waves) to fire multiple projectile ammunition.

In Short, The Government has (according to Franklin) imbued Franklin wth "very special boy" powers granting them monopoly and Franklin is claiming that they themselves can now say magic words and imbue OTHER people with "very special boy" powers (Despite at this time appearing to not have any formal, legal method to do so as they don't have any patents pending or issued). This is a completely different situation then the Rarebreed case because they at least had a (probably invalid) patent, Franklin just looks to have magical powers and potentially a unique form of intellectual property.

Also the ATF might be violating a court order because the Judge in the February decision told them to "Create procedures for regulation of GCA-only weapons within 180 days" and they don't seem to have done that (Unless telling people to check "Other" on the 4473 as they did in the new determination letter is considered satisfactory to the judge)

If this is the thing that blows up the NFA I'm going to lose my shit. The Cheatcode has been right under our noses for 91 years and all it took were some semantic wordgames (Is Legal Practice anything but?) And an (alleged) sincere belief on Franklin's part that they "Designed" (in their mind) a firearm to fire two projectiles at once (despite not as anyone can tell making any mechanical modification to the firearm)

I'm so curious as to what mechanism Franklin claims they can transfer their "very special boy" powers via, you can't (I think so anyway) license an idea without an actual patent, but Franklin hasn't mentioned a patent or an application for one in the context of the Antithesis or it's super real totally legitimate multi projectile assemblies.

I mean, it sounds retarded, but if we go by the letter of the law, it kinda makes sense. Obviously, this hinges on a rifle being "designed to fire multiple projectiles", which seems very flimsy. Is there any way to make this more future-proof? Say we chamber a rifle for the .223 Buckshot-only-totally-not-556, would the courts uphold this (with a more hostile DOJ)?
 
I’m eyeballing a few guns as I actually have some money to budget towards more quality equipment. However, I never grew up around guns and honestly all the makes and models can be a lot to wrap your head around.
I have a Taurus G2C I got as a broke bitch grocery worker, I’m familiar with it and it’s fine but I think the Glock 19 would be better overall.
I’m waiting on a Mossberg 590 that is going to be tons of fun at the range, I’ve shot one my bro had and quite liked it.
And I have my eye on a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 because it’s a good price for me and appears to be recommended by people smarter than me.
Any particular thoughts or recommendations for better alternatives or accessories like lights and red dots and things such as that? My main concern is home defense, concealed carry, fun at the range, and learning more about firearms as a whole.

For now it's mostly a range toy. If it proves reliable then I'll go from there. But with that stock the optic riser is necessary to bring the optic in line with my eye without having to only have the bottom tip of the butt in my shoulder. That's why the Gen 1 Vector has that dog leg style stock with the butt pad dropped down lower than your usual stock.

If having the riser ends up causing too many issues then I'll figure something else out. I do plan on getting a different stock eventually.

Something to think about with the Moss 590 vs the Rem 870 is that the 870 has an advantage when it comes to slug changeovers...if that's something you care about. Its a fun drill to practice no matter what shotgun you're using.

I used to be totally against velcro side saddles but I will admit that the ability to rip an empty one off and stick a fresh one on is pretty cool. They're also budget friendly.

Slings are good too.

If you're going to do any sort of practicing with your shotgun, birdshot is the economic ammo for live firing. Otherwise get snap caps with two different colors.

Fun at the range requires ammo, so don't forget to budget for that. Buy your own ammo, range ammo is like buying movie theater snacks - extremely overpriced and targeted at lazy people.

i'll add to this; if you don't already have a preferred vendor for ammo i would recommend trueshotammo's hundred buck yearly membership for free shipping. it pays for itself pretty quick as anywhere i've checked will try to charge you like twenty bucks or more for ammo shipping. i renewed my membership after being at the point where i can buy ammo on a regular occasion again as well as my old man hooking me up with a holosun 507KX2 for my RXM.
that being said; for anyone that's eyeing an RXM it has an RMSc footprint but it needs an adapter plate to fit a holosun of that nature. i went with the freedom gorilla plate. with the plate the red dot fits flush with a low cowitness.
