Why aren't semi-auto shotguns more common? I don't consider "you don't need them to be semi-auto" a legitimate answer.

Does it have anything to do with the Federal Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 or something like that?
If you want a semi-auto shotgun go to any gunshop in an area with a lot of pheasant hunting. Autos galore.
Bogliacci got it on the nose, although its bird hunting in general. Look into Winchester, Remington, Browning, Beretta, or really any company that makes shotguns targeted towards hunters and you will find many semi-autos. They are generally cheaper than break actions too

Lol, so apparently Gunblast.com got taken down from YouTube.

What on earth could have been the violation? Did they have some hidden unlisted video where one of the brothers paid a SHOT Show booth babe to show hole?
Was the channel name 'gunblast.com'? You're not supposed to have links to sites that sell guns, or do giveaways with them etc, you can't even mention the url in the video. If that was the channel name and they had a link in every video that's probably what got them. I checked the site and, after having a laugh at their amazing web design, noticed they had a gun giveaway right near the top so that's probably what got them the bop

An Interesting data point regarding commercial Super Safety sales and product population. Super Safety manufacturer/retailer (assume all SS retailers are using Chinese OEM's unless explicitly proven otherwise) recently held a little competition to guess how many SS Cams were divided between two plastic tubs. The answer was 2,645. 2,645 cams to be paired with 2,645 cams to create 2,465 Super Safeties. Fudd Arms is but one retailer among a not inconsiderate amount including "branded" retailers (GMR, Z3 etc), Facebook group/Ebay/Arfcom dropshippers and guys selling at Gunshows. Tim Hoffman revealed the Super Safety to the world in July of 2023, commercial metal models came a couple months later.

They would not be manufacturing/ordering this many cams if they didn't expect to be able to sell them (indicating market demand). Just something to think about the wider implications of.

Keeping on the data train.
Just because a projectile of a certain composition and weight does well at penetrating steel of a certain alloy of certain thickness at a certain distance does not mean that performance translates into penetration capability regarding modern composite body armor.

See
Steel plate made of "High Hardness Armor" steel penned by both Hybrid 7.62 and 6.8 at 150 meters/164 yards with I believe EPR style projectiles
What isn't stated is what barrel length the projectiles were fired from. Whether it be the 13" XM7 or the 16" XM250. And while I am not a materials scientist I want to state the obvious and say that this steel plate of 5-7mm thickness is not the same as a ceramic strike face with a UHMWPE backing

And

And finally refer to my master post on the subject of 6.8 EPR AP Capabilities
AGPinochet tries to definitively with a relatively high degree of confidence try to settle the discussion as to whether 6.8x51 military pressure loadings with EPR Projectiles can consistently penetrate body armor at ranges where that actually matters /

Speaking of suppressor mounts, Herrington Arms has thrown their hat into the "We're making our known proprietary micro comp" ring but have taken in a step further and designing an attachment that turns pretty much any direct thread suppressor into a QD Suppressor (the system works by depressing a built in button on the attachment itself)

so the actual gun is probably "only" $4k).
According to TFB street price for the standard edition will be $3600 and that's before Any sales

That's actually a pretty neat use for a Angstadt Vanquish (which, when you think about it is both the simplest suppressor ever made and the greatest absurdity in suppressor regulation). I've never actually been able to see a photo of town a d's under those handguards, is that actually similar to the real thing? I always assumed KAC chopped up some FSB's and welded them onto the tube bodies.

TV
-lightweight
-Claimed extremely consistent standard deviations (not always borne out in testing)
-Can be used in existing firearms

Federal
-Allows increased muzzle velocity, and at least in 5.56 allows "Peak Alloy" Cartridges to be fired in non specialized firearms while producing 3500fps

FN
-Very little is actually known about FN's monolithic stainless steel cartridges except that they weigh 20% less than brass equivalents
-Might allow higher velocities at similar pressures due to thinner case walls

Shell shock
-Lighter cases, higher velocities, similar or slightly elevated pressures

Sig Saar
-Cases are lighter (about 3 grams per cartridge over M80A1)
-Absolutely requires specialized firearms
-Wears out said specialized firearms much quicker
-Made by Sig Saar

Sig Saar has at the very least a concept for a steel case 6.8 round but I don't have the photo saved.
TVs issues were always with QC and scaling production. The military has been ordering extremely similar designed cases for use in aircraft for years now. Just not from TV. Look at Nammo MAC for the future of plastic in shellcases.

Federal - I haven’t looked at it much but I’m from what the marketing material says it sounds like a flavor of HSLA (High Strength Low Alloy) steel. Commonly used in the nuclear industry, and submarine hulls amongst other things.

Can’t speak to the rest but the concern with traditional steel cases is always rust, chamber wear and extraction. Cartridge brass is a fairly decent bearing material and is softer than the steel used in chambers. It will be interesting to see how the new crop of high pressure steel cases impact chamber and barrel wear. Plus the higher pressures mean higher peak temperatures.

Norinco MAK-90 my beloved. I personally have an NHM-91. Norinco honestly makes pretty decent firearms despite chinese made things having the reputation of being total dogshit. The first image makes me want to blow my head off though because they didn't have enough sense to remove the piece of metal that prevents you from using standard AK mags and they used the aftermarket plastic handguard. A fun gun none the less

Could well have been that... funny that they chose just now to do it if that was the issue. The channel has been set up that way since at least 2010 if not earlier, though back then it was called 'gunblast.com' rather than 'gunblastdotcom'..

I recall a similar device for a VZ61 scorpion where it used set screws to attach to the barrel to put a suppressor on, of course I can't find a photo but I'll look around

Thank god its single shot or that'd be super easy to double up

There's a couple different models on the market. This one is from the Czech K company

Some of the original military Vz-61 suppressors were attached via set screws or collet mounts. So no threads just clamp pressure over the barrel ring

If I have 0 knowledge on anything related to firearms would my best bet be to go to a local range and ask for help learning? Nobody in my family shoots and for obvious reasons I'm looking into purchasing one and practicing with it.

I've been putting it off for years and really regretting it the last few months.

Almost certain to fill your brain with all sorts of terrible ideas and bad advice. Sign up for classes with vetted instructors. Mega rad can help you vet most likely.

Also I have written (most of) a guide for folks like you. Its more focused on what to get and how to train then specific shooting technique, but I'm going to be adding a section for that.

I think your BEST bet would be to find a gun store that has lessons. Its really common for stores to offer lessons ESPECIALLY to get first time gun owners up to speed with the basics of gun safety and operation.

Your next best bet would be a friend whos a gun person.

I think your last ditch effort would be to watch YouTube videos and ask questions here.

Going to the range and asking a random person for help is a dice throw. I'm willing to bet that most people would be willing to help but the actual skill level is going to be, uh, questionable. You're also imposing yourself on someone's time they probably earmarked for themselves so its a little inconsiderate.

Fucking boney snaking me AGAIN I gotta type faster.

Idk man, YouTube has some really good shit on it. I got started with hate watching Botkin until he finally won me over. If you just enough to filter bullshit you can self educate extremely effectively. Most "friends into guns" are probably retarded.
