Mega Rad Gun Thread

As much as Judge revolvers are justifiably hated and memed on I can't help but love my Judge rifle. It's my go-to for fucking around in the woods. I may get 10 inch groups at 100 yards off a benchrest with it but it's light, is great for point shooting, and looks amazing. With the gas deflector and low velocity .45 handloads the cylinder gap isn't an issue at all. I don't shoot high pressure cartridges out of it without wearing long sleeves though.

Hello everyone, I recently remembered something and am wondering if I might be crazy or just misremembering. Some years ago I read a digitalized magazine article about a White man in Africa, I want to say Southern Africa (South West Africa (Namibia), Botswana, South Africa, then Rhodesia) who was experimenting with and manufacturing actual high explosive handgun bullets that could put a fist size hole in a fleshy target. I want to say this article was from sometime between 1970 and 1991/4 (End of Apartheid and South Africa as a civilized country). Does literally anyone know what I'm talking about?

Thunderzap - it was the OG meme round besides Glaser Safety Slugs and they used an anecdote from allegedly South Africa to advertise.

100% not thinking about those. These were explosive bullets that exploded and were illegal for use in wars in essentially every civilized nation. I'm taking about copper jackets filled not with lead but explosive compounds.

Apparently the .44 Magnum variant was marketed more heavily in Australia than here in the US, or at least retailers banked more on the .410/.45 which is a shame.

Could you perhaps be thinking about explosive bullets meant for use against dangerous game? that's been an on and off again projectile that's been experimented with since the 1880s. development of these was obviously centered on Africa, and mostly before modern monolithic penetrating bullets were created. Dangerous game hunting (buffalo, Elephant, lion) is centered around southern Africa.

for the life of me I can't remember the name of the bullet and all you get when you search for it is results for hollow points.

Thunder Zap was marketed as “explosive” (which it wasn’t). Other than that I can’t think of anything besides HE rounds which to my knowledge only come in larger calibers.

A little bit of new firearms stuff for me. I can't be trusted not to waste money on firearms stuff I don't actually need so I bought new grips and magazine buttons for my Shadow 2s.

My M&P compacts finally got back to me from Nameless Armament. I think he did a good job. Going to get them zeroed this afternoon.

Finally, I thought you'd all get a kick out of this one. As I mentioned previously, it works better than you might think but I'll go back to an LPVO on this one.

Boys, it's buttfuck winter. You know what that means.

It's shoulder holster time.
I've been making the rounds in the usual places trying to find a decent leather shoulder holster for a while. Problem is, they're all expensive. That, or they don't really fit my off the wall guns. I've had a hell of a time trying to find any holster to fit the BUL with the light/laser on it, let alone a shoulder rig.

Been trying several different holsters for years. Best I found was an old PagerPal IWB leather holster that I had to cut a bit and modify. The other night I was looking at my pile of scrap leathers, old holsters, and chicago screws and scratching my belly. Fast forward a few hours and a lot of digging through all my scrap piles for parts and ideas.

I finally finished it. My perfect rig. Lays flat, can even be mostly concealed with a full or duty sized under a slightly loose T-Shirt and disappears completely with any sort of overshirt or jacket. Totally modular, take a couple screws and rubber grommets off and pop a new holster on there. Every part is adjustable. Has a lower back strap too, so you can suck in or let out the rig as needed. Holds a spare mag right under my armpit on the other side. And now even has pistol retention with snaps, so every single other pistol I own in the house fits and is retained. I haven't been able to take it off since. Looks like a random mishmash of scraps, straps, and clasps. But this thing works, and I can even wear it over summer.
I never liked appendix, all my pistols are duty sized so they always stabbed me in the junk and gave me a huge bulge right on the front of my belly. Getting the perfect shoulder rig has been a wash of spent money and getting thrown in boxes. So I just made it. And this thing is just as sturdy, reliable, and indestructible as anything I could buy, even if not as pretty.

My favorite time of the year. I actually hate the cold, but my gun tism is stronger than my discomfort in cold, so I'm extremely happy that I get to use an OWB holster and cover it with a hoodie for a while.

Lok grips. Nice! I've really been tempted to get a pair of their brass 1911 grips that are exactly like those, just brass instead of anodized aluminum. They seem like good quality stuff.

Finally moved to a more gun friendly state and now I have to decide what my next purchase will be, Kind of want a new shotgun but I also want to fulfill my autistic vision of owning a UMP. Already built my AR and AK so don't really NEED anything though.

Can anyone here vouch for a shot timer app? I mainly shoot at steel targets in the national forest and I don't have to worry about other shooters most of the time. Doesn't need to be super accurate just good enough to do basic handgun drills. Thanks in advance :^)

On another note , what do you guys think is going to be the best frt sub gun?
Want to get a 9mm frt but not sure what the best platform is going to be, probably going to wait 6 months to let everything come to market.

I wonder how big of a captive piston cartridge you would need to replicate subsonic .300 blackout performance

Mitin patent revolver concept
1766079441483.jpeg
Essentially a modified Nagant revolver firing special ammunition with a second linked and synchronized cylinder at the muzzle to capture sabots, thus theoretically achieving captive piston performance without captive piston ammunition. You would have to empty out both cylinders to reload. OTs-38 beats things thing in every metric besides capacity.

Difference between the Military A545/6P67 and the civilian KSO-18. Literally the only problem with the A545 is that it's stock is ugly. But I guess military requirements demanded it be that way

Can anyone ID this AMR In use with Ethiopian Fano militiamen?

I thought on the colt mag AR-9s distance the round travels from the magazine to actual barrel is a reliability issue for rapid fire.
they shouldn't be since they were designed for automatic fire in the first place. the mag design is also solid since they are very slightly modded uzi mags. I wager any reliability problems come from the gun and not the mag, or elderly mags with weak springs and/or damaged bodies.
