Most uncomfortable shotgun I've ever shot was a late model fixed stock SPAS-12 I used to own. Even in semi-auto with low brass target loads, it was not fun to shoot. But in pump mode with high brass buckshot or slugs? It was abusive. And I'm not in any way recoil shy. I don't know why that SPAS-12 was so abusive, but it was way worse than shooting 3 1/2" magnum loads in a normal pump gun like a Mossberg 500 or Rem 870.
