Mega Rad Gun Thread

What do you all think? PCCs that can fold for like 0-50m, "truck guns," something you can put in a backpack and hike with, etc. They're probably lighter and smaller than SBRs but it seems like quite a downgrade in terminal performance to go from rifle rounds to pistol rounds.

I kinda already made a similar purchase not too long (last week) ago, lol. Tiny delayed blowback foldy thing where the primary benefit over a pistol is far greater accuracy potential for most shooters. If you want more power, .300 blackout supers would definitely fuck someone's day up even out of a 6-8" barrel, but at the cost of your hearing.

Speaking of that thing, sadly I'm still waiting on the last part I want to add (fixed front sight), but the new light setup is a huge improvement from a comfort standpoint.

I've been told that states dealing with the Chronic Wasting Disease scare discourage damaging the spinal column or brain due to prions potentially getting into the meat, so there's still a lot of emphasis on shoulder and double lung shots.
CWD states discourage consumption of any deer with confirmed CWD. testing is usually provided by fisg & game for free.

Yep, it’s a free service Colorado. I bounce between there and Texas and it’s to the point I really don’t want to consume anything from CO. It’s tragic
well, the chances of any individual deer having CWD is fairly low (way less than 50% in most places) if that makes you feel better, and the disease has been around for going on 70 years now (that's since the study began, its existed forever).

the best way to ensure a deer you shoot don't have CWD is to shoot a old buck (if you can, its hard i know). a infected deer rarely lives past 2 to 3 years.

If the Stribog functioned it would be pretty cool but I lost track after four iterations. Not even MAC would shill for them.
I'm definitely curious about the 'bogs since they seem like a good way to avoid HK or JP prices or Mean Arms proprietary upper issues while still getting that roller locked pcc.

Poking around on reddit a bit everyone claiming theirs work well are a few generations removed from the A1 (or got theirs fixed), most seem to use the A3, and more than half of them have added 4 or 5 aftermarket parts with "HBI" and "Lingle" being manufacturers uttered in most replies.

Also apparently not all stocks/braces work equally well across all generations (this may be responsible for some of the issues people have seen with reliability) with all sets of aftermarket parts so it's still a bit of a shitshow but apparently there can be a functional firearm at the end of it

I’ve got a buck on the wall I shot forever ago when I was eighteen. To be honest if I’m shooting deer I’m looking for a fat ass doe to put in the freezer.

I'll have a range report for my 6.5" 9mm Dissent setup tomorrow evening if you're open to a different delayed-blowback system, lol. It is a proprietary upper, but CMMG doesn't seem like it's going OoB any time soon.

So uhhh.... Is CWD a death sentence of you eat infected meat?

There has been no (confirmed) human cases. CWD is essentially Mad Cow disease but for cervids. it is a brain prion so it solely resides in the central nervous system of the animal.

CDC strongly encourages hunters to not consume meat from a cervid infected with CWD. In most states CWD testing is free and often compulsory. There have been lab studies that have exposed human brain tissue to high levels of CWD prions that resulted in no infection for the duration of the study.

there where two hunters that died from sCJD which is the human prion disease. they were both parts of the same hunting party. it was classed as sCJD (sporadic CJD aka normally occurring) because they can't determine if it was because they ate CWD contaminated meat.

If CWD is ever determined to be transmissable to humans it will present as vCJD (variant CJD). All prion diseases in all species are always fatal once they become active.

IF you do not consume CNS tissue you should not be exposed as far as I have read. People that have contracted vCJD from eating beef contaminated by BSE (mad cow disease) catch it because during the slaughter process all the meat on the cow is used including CNS meat. these parts of the cow are processed along with all the other little leftover bits into ground beef and hotdogs and such like.

If CWD is ever confirmed to be transmissible to humans I'm becoming solely a trophy hunter.

If we are coming up with hypothetical truck guns/PCCs/SMGs/whatever, then I want something chambered in 7.5fk with some kind of locked or delayed breach and some sort of recoil mitigation device. It could be a hydraulic buffer system, or perhaps a recoil impulse shifting system like the Vector. I've always felt that 7.5fk would make a helluva SMG/PCC cartridge, really bridging the gap between pistol cartridges and rifle cartridges, possibly even better than 5.7x28mm or 4.7mm HK.

Well, if we're making up hypotheticals why not a sawn off lever button mag lever gun in .50 Alaskan? Kill the nigger, the truck behind him and dislocate your shoulder in one blow!

If I want to get started in waterfowl hunting from scratch, what shotguns should I look at? Are those turkroach double barrels by CZ worth a damn or should I look elsewhere?
none of the turkshit doubles are regulated worth a damn, and the ones that are cost the same as a good european or american double or O/U.

If you want a good quality newly made double you should expect to pay 3k minimum for a browning Citori. My advice is to buy used if paying that tax does not suit you.

Some used brands to look for
European:
  • Merkel
  • JP Sauer & Sohn
  • The Ferlach guilds
  • Webly & Scott
  • Manufrance
  • Darne
  • AyA
  • Beretta
  • Rizzini
American:
  • LC Smith
  • LC Smith by Marlin
  • Parker Brothers
  • Lefever
  • Ithaca
  • Baker Batavia
  • Winchester
  • Colt
  • Remington
look for "field grade" guns. these are built to the same quality as the embellished ones but don't command such a premium. You can get deals on most of these brands if you just search around online. Make sure they are in good shape though, that's hard to due with just pics so i tend to only buy guns that are NIB unless they are from shops that deal with shotguns specifically.

Good to know. Do you have any recommendations for shotgun specific online shops?
