At that point the online retailers make sense. I'm using Lucky Gunner as an example because that's what I'm familiar with. There are a dozen other reliable retailers.
Looks like it, thoughts on Gold-dot? they've got a decent deal of 800 bucks for 1k rounds with their 147G JPH?
Also thoughts on winchester silver tip?

Speaking of ammo prices, the gay retard at sgammo has been spamming my inbox with his looming threat of "2026 ammo pricing" and it's been the last chance for cheap ammo, from him, for the past few weeks now.
Prices are going up? The store says it's an ammo shortage? Why... why would you question that, sonny? Prices go up during an ammo shortage. Hell, three other online stores say the same thing! You think there's a store out there selling cheap ammo in times like this? That's why i pay for my targetshootingusa subscription, kid. It's $350 a year. They even ship it to your door, that's what paying for superior service gets ya!

(he's talking about winchester white box 9mm and is paying $22.99 for a box of 50, shipping not included)

I carried Speer in my work gun for a while. It's quality. I've never shot or carried Winchester, but silver-tip has a good reputation as I recall. There are guys in this thread way more qualified than me to get into the weeds on ammo though. I'd do some research of my own before I went nearly a grand into ammo for sure.

The winchester silver tip is still pretty expensive but less then 200 bucks for 200 rounds with some nice expansion seems like a good tradeoff to me, i think at anything with 100+ rounds you start saving money over brick and mortar stores.

Buying in bulk is where online ordering shines, if you just want a few boxes the humble brick and mortar is best because fuck the shipping costs on a box or two if it's not obscure/boutique stuff.

Speer Gold Dots and Federal HST are the absolute gold standard. If you can afford it go for it. Winchester Ranger T is also excellent but it’s LEO only and you can only find it sporadically “off the back of a truck”. Honestly it’s not worth the snipe hunt.

It’s not the best on the market but you can find Federal 9BPLE 115gr +p+ for as cheap as 400 a case routinely. It had a proven track record in the 90’s with agencies like Illinois state police and was nicknamed “felon flattener”. I’ve got about 3 cases hidden away.

What if i want to be a maniac and buy a thousand rounds of ammo?
I buy pretty much all of my ammo save for .308 and shotgun stuff in 1000-round cases or more. Usually I use SGAmmo and yeah, I know some people have issues with them, but buying those sorts of quantities also usually nets you free shipping since it'll be over $200.

I saw some shit where federal was underloading their .40 ammo before, have you heard any of that?

I highly recommend we all buy as much ammo and as many magazines as we can.

If I could have a vault room for only ammo and mags I would without hesitation.

Same here. I bought once from him because he had some good prices. Now I get those emails too.
You can always go on ammoseek dot com and filter to find what you need.
Definitely. Still works well

Just run 10mm loaded to 10mm specs and this will never be a concern.

I'll say that my Old Beretta 92(s) did not like them at all. jammed every other round. had a whole case of them and only go through one box on that gun. My Ruger P85 however eats anything and everything i give it.

Ranger T is the old "black talon" load that all the pearl clutching boomers cried over back in the 90s just without the black coating on the bullet. the department of war's M1152 147gr load also uses this bullet.

its a good projectile if you can get it.

Yep, not worth the side quest to track it down. The vast majority of LEO agencies are stacking bodies with Speer and HST. I stockpile the 9BPLE because I can afford to without selling pictures of my feet to Japanese businessmen. If my dozen plus mags of HST run dry I won’t feel defenseless carrying it.

Just got back from function testing and zeroing the optic on the Dissent (I did a preliminary boresight at home beforehand). Ran 250 through it - a mix of 147gr and 115gr range food-tier ammunition.

After ten rounds to zero at 25 yards, ran some more to get an idea of what the hold is like at 50 yards and the rest just to see how well it functions.

Short form - it was dead nuts reliable, locked back on empty every time and a ton of fun to shoot. Minimal recoil or movement (certainly miles better than any blowback AR-9 I've ever shot), the trigger is super crispy and fast and it's also quite the conversation starter at a public range, though that may just partially be due to all the stuff attached to my example.

Minor quibble - the CMMG magazines didn't seem to want to drop free without a little help so I found myself stripping them out manually. Maybe they'll wear in to the point where they drop on their own, maybe not. Also, loading them all the way to 30+ rounds is way easier than doing the same with Glock mags since they're double stack/double feed.

The only change to the AR manual of arms is the front charging handle and that's really nice in practice, since you can lock the bolt back just using your left hand and while it's not as cool as the HK slap, I did enjoy dropping the bolt from there while reassuming my grip on the handguard instead of using the standard AR bolt catch on occasion.

Will need more ammo (particularly hollow points) through it to give an unqualified recommendation, but I can definitely say that it's a great shooter and a pretty solid giggle generator right out of the box. There's arguments both ways for a "bag/truck gun", but the Dissent is definitely a really nice one of those so far.

EDIT: Based on the ejection pattern, this thing will definitely be a bad time if you're left-handed, so there's that too.

Then make a post here asking what to do with 4700rds of 9mm Steyr.
I was once quite proud of myself for buying 10,000 rounds of 9mm ammo at once. I was informed that this was not even close to a pallet's worth of ammo for pistol rounds. I don't know this for a fact but I bet pallet round count is different for everything. I'm curious how much ammo is in a pallet of .22 LR.

A pallet of 9mm is around 70k rounds as I recall. A pallet of .22 has to be like 500k at least

Best of the best is Federal HST and Speer Gold dot 147gr.

Critical Duty and Winchester defender are good too. Winchester Defender 147gr is the exact same round as the Ranger Bonded but you get the luxury of paying the same amount for 20rds as LEOs pay for 50 rounds.

Ranger T series used to be known as Ranger SXT in the 90s and early 00. I have spoken to people who worked at Winchester in the 90s and no matter what the marketing says, it stood for Same eXact Thing. It was Black Talon rebadged for LEO only sale.
