IDK if this was ever fixed in the later post 700+ series, the Remington 700 was famous for shooting very well right out of the box for decades. There was some "SIG P320 shit" that did have actual merit. Merit it terms of at least one person died on record and one LEO designated marksman had a non intentional discharge. IDK if this was changed in the 740 and on series. The issue was the safety was not a true safety the OG engineer who designed the FCG kept telling Remington to call it a "Disconnecter" a more accurate term. Allegedly some dirt /grit /fouling created two issues that were clearly repeatable. Engaging the saftey dropped the striker and opening the action to eject a live round both lead to unexpected firing. There are videos floating around of some PD fucking with what looks like a 2000's manufacture Rem 700 poking the bolt handle and it firing every time to prove it was not field capable for SWAT or something IDK.

As all things are I'm sure this was eventually quietly fixed, how, when, what models? Dunno.

The 700 is a bolt action, the 740 is semi-auto and the 760 is a pump action. Completely different.

It’s one of the things that bankrupted Remington in 2017. They settled a class action and were going to be on the hook to fix something like 10+ million rifles or reimburse for aftermarket triggers that were bought to fix the problem.

As I mentioned 93' field reports from Mogadishu talk about 5.56 slipping through, no tumbling no spawling. Shit just happens.

My opinion is buy whatever marketing you believe in. Here's some possible bullshit, possible magic bullet marketing from 300 blackout peanut gallery.

200 grains ALLEGEDLY rocking at around 850 FPS and it turns in a death banana. I believe this a guarantee and typical results? fuck no. Even the premo pistol 9mm JHPs we all pay out the as for get clogged with clothing and never expand like make ballistic gel marketing test results.

Also, are you actually using a lever gun in 45-70 to smoke the bad guys if called upon? I'm sure John Wayne Approves, I'm sticking with a modded M4.

My point was that subsonic .30 cal requires premium projectiles that use their design to expand or soft lead to get good wounding because the .300 subs do not move quick enough to create hydrostatic and hydraulic shock (~2600fps for calibers .338 and below) . it's easier and cheaper to use supersonic .30 cal projectiles since the vast majority of .30 cal projectiles are designed for higher velocities and will fail and subsonic velocities.

the fatter bullets (bore diameter, not necessarily grain weight) can achieve hydrostatic shock at lower velocity thresholds. ~2400FPS for .358, lower still for .458 and lower even still for .50 and .510 bores. So my assertion is thus: IF you must use sub-sonic bullets you should maximize bore diameter.

Also, the flatter the bullet nose the better. a flat meplat encourages faster energy transfer into the target which can mean better expansion. the humble .30-30 uses this effect to maintain great wounding despite it's relative slow velocity (~2400FPS for the common 150gr loads). downside is your BC falls through the floor.

If your .30cal projectile is engineered for supersonic velocities, then yes, it would result in markedly poorer wounding compared to the 5.56 because of bullet failure. likely it would just make a .30cal hole in the target. unless the bullet hit any major bones or organs it would not be fatal quickly enough to be effective.

If the bullet is properly designed to expand at low velocities i have no trouble accepting it's performance.
Personally, for all practical purposes in .30cal I prefer .30-06. it will out perform all .300 blackout loads available. I'm not preparing to fight any wars except that against the wildlife, and electronic hearing protection has come along so far as to render my concerns about the report of any of my guns mute. in a self defense situation I'm not concerned about my hearing that much. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. In the moment you wont even hear your gun go off, I know that for a fact.

I am enticed by the subsonic .338's, for fun more than anything.

My 300gr .45 caliber bullet are coming from my EDC revolver, a Colt's Anaconda in .45 colt. it's a +P load comparable to .44 magnum. It gets about 1,100FPS. I'm fortunate to live in a rural area where my most likely opponent is dogs, Coy-wolves and Bears.

The vp9cc has proven fantastic, the only micro9 that hasn't been a chore to shoot out of the box in my experience. Can't wait for my holster to ship to start carrying it.
