Helping a friend built his new AR. 300 hammr. I'm an ammo autismo and like wild cats etc but fuck me ARs are all "this 50+ year old idea but let's sell it as tactical"

30-30 has been a thing for a long time, and if you wanted that in a semi...x39 (well ammo ban kinda made that more a hassle)

Same with 300 meme that seems to have died off.

I am fine with you doing what you want and all but if you want an AR 223 is plenty good and 308 is as well. I guess I'm just tired of preppers/LARPers etc who don't reload buying fucking dumb shit like 45GAP.

Meme caliber hipsters are insufferable, and most likely gullible consoomers.

I think it's a prime example of "amateurs study tactics, professionals study logistics".

Curious... What are some decent rifle calibers that arent super popular, but used widely enough that they would be relatively easy to find in stores? Like in a SHTF scenario, what might one still be able to find on the shelves of an already looted sporting goods store? (emphasis on something AR-compatible with proper upper, but all suggestions welcome)

.22-250, possibly. Underrated cartridge for what it does - high velocity anti-varmint. I've heard of old timers using it for Elk with neck shots, and plenty of deer have met their end from one.

EDIT: My grandfather swears by it for pronghorn and deer, and it's an INSANELY fast round. Only .220 Swift has a higher muzzle velocity among commercial rounds. The SAS used it occasionally in the 80's for urban counterterror operations.

What about 204 Ruger? I know at least LMT makes an AR barrel in 204 Ruger. Most likely others do as well but I do not know about them.

I still see 30-06 everywhere, even when the shelves are bare of everything else, and with more variety of range-fodder being offered than in the past.
I used to not shoot it as much, as the only 30-06 available was either old surplus or relatively expensive hunting ammo; but the situation has seemed to have flipped, so I've found myself shooting the Garand & Browning more. Plus I figure if it's a problem can't be solved with an aught-six, I probably shouldn't be fucking with it.

And speaking of, I've been eyeballing one of these for a hot minute, an AR in 30-06.

The BN36X3 Long Range was driven by the thought of recreating the M1 Garand, and revamping it into an AR style rifle. The dream was brought to life by Noreen in 2012 with early prototypes. The BN36 on the market today is a refined model of the original version, and will meet and exceed your expectations.

Rifles are built to order, current lead time is 12 weeks!

We are currently not taking orders for 270 and 25-06 until late summer 2021

Very cool, but...

>$2455

Oof.

I do want to build an AR10 at some point, so that 22-250 is appealing.

Looks like some places do sell 204 Ruger uppers for AR15s, but perhaps feed issues with standard Pmags.

Yeah, it's like an AR with extra steps, but those extra steps make it not an AR. I particularly like the side-charging... and that it's not an FA-deleted AR upper sporting high-end furniture, sitting on a milled-out lower that's just been stuffed with an aftermarket FCG.

At least with this particular custom rifle, I'd be paying for more than just the sum of it's parts; which is fine if it works as advertised, because I'd be getting exactly what I wanted.

.204 Ruger is basically a varmint cartridge through and through. An AR in it would be excellent for prairie dog hunting and other small game… if you don’t mind that small game fucking exploding from hydrostatic shock.

EDIT: Full disclosure, I’ve used it for prairie dog before. Rips them in half pretty much.

Comedy option .17 HMR? In a SHTF scenario it would still be effective up to 200 yards, and you can carry A LOT of it.

Or going the opposite direction, some kind of semi-auto in .270 would be very capable as well. Never seen an AR-10 in that caliber, but if they can fit 30-06 in one, should be able to do .270.

Placed the order for my Nightingale Leather shoulder rig this morning. Ordered it for my Dan Wesson Specialist. Now I get to wait about 38 weeks for it to be made. And my Auto Mag looks like it might be getting built sooner than I thought. I'm definitely excited to be getting that big beauty in my grubby mitts finally.

Paul did a FK BRNO review. Sold me on it, honestly. Probably gonna get one in a few days if I can find one.

I love my PSD. It's one helluva fine, high quality weapon. I ordered mine directly from FK BRNO and had to wait a couple months, but it was worth the wait. If you can get one, then definitely do so. You will not be disappointed. You'll definitely want to mount an RMR or similar micro red dot on it to get the most out if it's capabilities.

Been too busy reading about the new Colt M4. Glad CZ lit a fire under their asses as it actually looks pretty awesome.
Oh shit I haven't been keeping an eye on Colt. I'm expecting to see them move somewhere like New Hampshire in the future, but I'm not too hopeful on that.

For Guardian, the owner is beginning to look like he deserves an eventual thread and might be on his way to having his 07 license revoked.
