There is no advice that can salvage Melinda. She is reflexively oppositional to everyone she comes across IRL and everyone she talks to online. Maybe work study in college. But she was fucking weird Hebrew Roots guys and having their children within a year or two of graduation.

My hypothesis is that she got mixed up with them and spat out a kid or two and then had a break, which left her with no support. Rather than reevaluate her life choices up to that point, she has gone through a series of damaged men to support her and her kids.

I would love to find some information about her life at GMU, but so far I've only been able to find a mention of her being on the crew team as a freshman. At what point did she have her break with reality that send her down this path? GMU is a decent school and her student loan debt is consistent with receiving some scholarship assistance, so she wasn't always as stupid as she appears now. Something happened.
