Metal Gear

technology that wouldn't have existed in 1974 but it totally exists in Peace Walker because Big Boss' ragtag band of super mercenaries developed it.
IIRC they stole the formula for Mountain Dew from the CIA

edit: I misremembered. In the Metal Gear universe, MSF developed Mountain Dew.
You'd think they wouldn't have a money problem after that.

this thread is now an endless loop of kvetching about how bad MGSV is.
fitting for a dead franchise.
MGSV was just viscerally disappointing. I'm talking Mass Effect 3's ending disappointing.

Probably had cocaine in it like coca-cloa did... For those who don't know, coca-cola's name is literal, they used to put cocaine in it to addict people to it... This is one of many reasons to avoid goyslop. Slerm from Futurama is an apt comparison. What a horrific state of affairs, we don't even get a cool god-complex A.I., just banker jews... no wonder or imagination.

not really, it just deflates near the end, it was rather fun to play and there was some goofy shit to do, and it had good aesethetics and shit.. the ending is exactly what you expected, tying up the plot.

there was no big payoff coming, not like with Mass Effect, it was always going to end with the tie in to Metal Gear 1.

Plus! it had Duran Duran's hit single Invisible play during the final act where you square off against Liquid in the recovered Monkey Metal Gear!

I mean what a bop, "And you can't eeeeven say.. may name", just classic MGS moment.

This is what the thread turns into like every three months. Welcome.
It's on purpose. By carefully putting new users through the same action and settings as the previous users went through, the Patriots hope to transplant the meme of those users into the new generation, DNA be damned.

@Aunt Carol turn the computer off. Cut the power right now. Haven't you posted enough today? You'll ruin your eyes posting so close to the monitor. @Aunt Carol, something happened to me last Thursday while I was driving home.

Memes. The DNA of the soul. They shape our will. They are the culture -- They are everything we pass on. Expose someone to MGSV long enough, they will learn to hate.

I did some research and saw that the master collection is still kind of lackluster, missing content and that the best way to play the original trilogy is via emulators.

Any versions I should look for specifically in terms of each game?

Is Twin Snakes a pretty good remake?

If you replace the shitty Michael Bay cutscenes, and had the original recordings, then yes. But that game is too broken in the MGS2 engine. You have too much of an advantage.

So no.

Depends what you think makes a good remake.

Story wise it is more or less the same as the original, but the voice over is quite different, and in my opinion, flat out inferior to the original and that's despite most of the original voice actors reprising their roles. Gameplay is meant to be more like MGS2 (i.e. you can aim in 1st person) which I didn't mind. Soundtrack is different from the original, but its alright. Personally I think it's fine as a remake contrary to what some jackass video essayist/youtube critic will say.

For MGS2 I would say Substance in an emulator. The European release of Sons of Liberty does have a lot of the changes that are usually credited to Substance and it's the last version released without a broken skybox in the intro:

If you don't care about that, I'd say go with Substance.

MGS3 I would say go with Subsistence in an emulator.

The only thing with these games, and you probably know this already, is you'll need a DualShock 3 to emulate them properly. Playing these games without pressure-sensitive controls is a miserable experience even with the "modern" re-releases.

Kojima Q&A from Wired.

At some point I need to get back to the master collection and finish all of the side games. Finished MGS1-3 again on my steam deck but I've never really played the msx or nes games.
His first answer is perhaps one of the best I've heard regarding what is a "good" game, it's what I believe too. I can't bring myself to dislike Kojima, regardless of how his work fell off. I hope he does create something new and great eventually.
