Watch out when you do get it because equipping it for missions carries a high Golden Crescent cost. Between it and my tranq sniper rifle I was burning through 64 of those plants per deployment, and didn't even realise until I had practically run out. I was forced to drop back to the rank 4 WU which doesn't cost anything to deploy.
Now I'm having to grind those dumb plants, in retrospect I wish I'd spent more time gathering them during missions. I don't mind doing puerile busywork in games but I think sending a legendary soldier* into a warzone to pick flowers is pushing it a bit.

*Yeah I know he's not really Big Boss, thanks kojima.

Powergrind early all the dispatch missions that allow you to gather a lot of plants, you'll have a nice surplus for later.

So I extracted the individual known as the "White Mamba" and...

...holy crap Eli is such a pompous little fuck. Like, I just wanna pop him in the fucking mouth! I capture him, and even in the helicopter, he's still a pompous little shit! Thank god BB decided to break his arm. Little fucker deserved it.

And he's still not the most hateable guy on Motherbase.

I was hoping to limit myself to doing one mission a day but then I realized I spent 3 hours on a single mission. Technically two because it's a side op that surprises you with the actual mission.

So I bought Phantom Pain last night on Steam, and I've barely ever played any MG games before. I'm really impressed so far. I'm just 2 hours in and finished the first 2 missions I think.

Any tips for a total noob? Anything that's really easy to overlook?
Another thing, unique to this game is the dynamic difficulty. It might be tempting to do a bunch of headshots but do too much and they'll start wearing helmets. Do too many night attacks and they'll use night vision goggles. Fortunately, they're limited to one headgear or the other.

They'll get gas masks, full face riot suits, all sorts of shit. Thankfully there's deployment missions you can send troops out on to limit materiel to the field.

Yeah well... Its not over yet Snake! I lost my shit when everybody decided it was a good idea to let the kid walk around on his own. Little bastard set me on fire and hit me with a pipe.

Eli is so hilariously assholish that dunno if it was intended, when
he was mad by one of the child soldiers that was only casual talking about his father (that probably is never going to see again) painted him as pitty as fuck and I straight laughed when he went full Omen (looking menancing in the distance) in that scene when he throws the child's collar

No surprise why Ocelot and Big Boss hates his guts or why Ocelot acts like he was a overly dramatic manchild in MGS4.

I really hate the riot suit that guards use at times. It is impossible to stealth shot them. Need to go lethal or go up and punch them.
Also, I got my first foxhound last night. On a "only stealth mission" (no discovery and such). Feels good.

I'm almost tempted to ask who is more hateable, even if there are spoilers.
Well, as much of a shitkid Eli is, At least he didn't start an outbreak on your base, which forces you to kill your men who are infectetd, one by one. Right, Huey?!!!

I'm aware of some major spoilers so anybody who got to that point...
My staff just started learning that. How fucked am I?

The guy that everyone claimed it was a carbon copy of a loved character
Otacon's dad is an asshole. Killed (by inaction) the first woman that Otacon loved, his mom

How wrong they were...

Now it's starting to look like there was more than one reason for his suicide...

I'm pissed off at the ending
What was the whole point of learning big bosses descent into villainy if you weren't even big boss? Its like "heres this random dude ocelot hung out with in the 80's who made his own base and everyone thought he was big boss. I wanted to play as big boss and chill with frank jaegar and i was so excited to save baby naomi hunter but no, you had to be big bosses butt buddy who he never talked about until like the end of phantom pain. I wouldn't even be so mad if it wasn't for the fact that this guy doesn't have anything to do with any previous metal gear games, he's literally a background character in Ground Zeroes.

Also Eli escapes with Sahelanthropis, but this is never explained or brought up ever again in later metal gears. Where does he go? and what happened to Sahelanthropis? This huge plot hole isn't explained or anything and the game ends on a cliffhanger, which doesn't work because its right in the middle of the timeline.

Also I'm sick of Quiet. People were all like "She's got so much character!" but literally all she did was get naked and sexy around fake big boss. The way they explained why she was naked all the time was laughable and ridiculous and its a pitiful attempt at fanservice. At least give me the option from the get go to give her clothes, instead of having to unlock it. That's why I just only use D-Dog, he's like my own personal Soap.

So many things cut.
Find mission 51 on youtube.

I really don't get the shitstorm over Quiet when people never complained about.

1-Vamp the sexy bisexual vampire.
2-The heavy gunner girl in MGS2 who didn't wear pants
3-Eva the walking sex joke (MGS3)
4-Naked Raiden.
5-The Beauty and the beast unit and their skintight suits. (MGS4)

Kojima is a big fan of exploitation films and the MGS series always had silly or ridiculous elements incorporated into it. I find it weird that people are totally willing to accept a special forces soldier using a cardboard box to outwit enemy forces but a girl in a bikini? Nope that's too unrealistic.

:story:

That being said cutting out mission 51 was bullshit and it's almost cheating the fans who expected a proper ending. Not as bad as ME3 but still not the sendoff MGS deserves.
