Metro series - Some people call these demons, I call them bitches.

I got it on steam b4 it was pulled, game is good fun so far, and the plot is p interesting so far
As far as the plot goes, I wasn't all that surprised after looking up the plot to Metro 2035 which the game has managed to take a few cues from.

Also stuck on the map with the church on the lake thanks to the fact that it's big and it has shit for me scrounge around for. Trying to find a way inside the place where the cultist all try to stockpile that evil sinful technology.

Edit: Finished the map yesterday, the cultist stash is tied to a mission miller gives you. Also the next map had me kill a guy that resembles Strelok from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and the now I'm in the Caspian desert which is more or less Mad Max but with Slavs and Asians.

Edit: so far I'm enjoying my 100% legitimately purchased copy of the game, although how quickly weapons start experiencing issues from cleanliness is definitely grating.

The only legitimate difficulty mode for 2033 is Ranger Hard.

Too bad they dumbed it down in Last Light and the only meaningful difference was "you only get 2 weapons slots instead of 3".

Oh shit, yeah, the massacred station and the subsequent rescue mission were nightmarish that way.

I just finished Metro 2033 Redux and I have to say Metro probably has one of the best atmospheres and setting in a video game ever. I can kinda see the correlation with the STALKER games but not to the extent that some people make it out to be. I did like the line during the library level where there's a line about Roadside Picnic (Book that the STALKER games are based on). The story and voice acting are great, nothing short of fantastic. The writers really made you feel like you were playing as Artyom, traversing through the Metro and killing mutants. The guns all feel tight and responsive. I also really like that you aren't limited to a few guns because every other gun is shit. All the weapons are interchangeable which allows you to experiment more with the weapon varieties. For my playthrough, I mostly stuck with the revolver, shambler, and klash. Another thing I like is how you can go the whole game without buying anything. You can very easily find ammo, guns, filters, medkits all by just searching the environment. One gripe I do have with the game though is the Dark One sequences. Almost all of them are useless besides the one where they hint at the Dark Ones could be trying to make peace with the humans but the other sequences are all pretty redundant and just used to pad out the game. That's my only real problem with the game, everything else is on a scale from good to stellar.

Metro Exodus is extremely heavily discounted, or at least was last I checked, on Steam. I'm not even going to buy it because I have too long of a backlog. I thought Metro Redux sucked so much I couldn't even stand playing it, the only reason I'd even consider Exodus is because it's not in a fucking subway tunnel, isn't strictly linear, and the rural Russian environments look compelling.

Loved the Exodus campaign despite not really caring for the more linear ones actually based in the Metro. Stubbornly though I dealt with controller aim because I wanted to try out the ps5 controller's new haptics tech. Fun but definitive trade off there. For some reason they never bothered patching gyro aim in.

I'm playing Metro: Exodus. Aspects of it suck, aspects of it are good. In a lot of ways it's the most generic nuclearshit imaginable EXCEPT because it's put through a rare setting (rural Russia) and has the mentality of slavjank where being clunky and awkward is a feature it ends up feeling compelling in its own unique way. I really liked Volga River, disliked Yamantau (wow cannibals where have I seen that before), and am excited to play Caspian Sea next time. It is nice to see actual environment variety (unlike something like Fallout).

Some of the monsters can be pretty interesting. The monster crawdads in the river with the boat are really neat. What really got me is the demons of electricity. Haven't actually encountered one - no idea if it's something that can even be killed - but they remind me of spook lights, those glowing orbs (usually theorized to be ball lightning, probably were actually just train lights, paranormal people interpret them as ghosts/supernatural creatures).

Necroed thread.

Will probably replay this when I finish building my new PC. Liked it (and the series) well enough but the water kept bugging out on my playthrough three ish years ago.

Moscow = Piss
Volga River = Very good
Yamantau = Piss and shit
Caspian Sea = Okay, probably good if it didn't bring back flashbacks of Mad Max, got enough desert for a lifetime in that game
Taiga = Awesome
Novosibirsk = Disappointing piss

All the most Metro parts of the game sucked. Novosibirsk was real disappointing with how it had to go back into muh metro instead of exploring the city surface through Soviet architecture most of the time. And really? Gorillas as the big enemy? Not some other weird radiation abomination? In fact, did it even explore why the city is so irradiated, was it a dirty bomb or something?

I thought the Taiga section was absolutely brilliant, THE best version of a Lords of the Flies-like scenario I've seen, just compare how clever it is to something like Little Lamplight from Fallout 3. I went out of my way to never even punch out a pirate if I could. Surprisingly goofy AND emotionally stirring. I'm just compelled by its whole thing with the teacher becoming some half-god half-Confucius figure to the kids. And them making a culture that is both believable and juvenile. "Don't bully the girls" as a taboo. "The Final Exam" as the afterlife. I would read/watch/play anything made just about them, they are definitely more interesting than the (cringe) Spartans.

Metro: Alyx was announced yesterday. It is not developed by 4A Games.

This is old news, but I thought I post it anyways for those that don't know. DeadlySteph was the community manager for Saints Row (2022). She called the Saints Row fans terrorists because they trashed the game and didn't like her or her attitude. You can guess what she does now. She has been the community manager for Metro since November.

When Volition shut down, it didn't effect her one bit because she worked for Deep Silver as an independent contractor and was just shuffled over to a different game series.

I've been made aware of some Russian guys who are using the guts of Metro Exodus to make mods with entirely new settings, weapons and gameplay mechanics
