I am starting to see the flaws in Hyper Metroid's design, and they come in shades of green and yellow.
The map seems really open and interesting for a while, but that makes the sheer number of super missile and power bomb doors feel like a 'fuck you' with how hard it is to get those two specific items. It led me to discovering Project Maptroid, but that revealed most of the time the shit behind those doors is more fucking super missile and power bomb tanks and I've never been this pissed off seeing the snake eat its own tail.

RE: Project Maptroid, holy fuck I don't have to write down things like unmarked items and doors in romhacks anymore to keep track of it all. I mean I still will but now I know I don't have to.

Alright I've been thinking, instead of just buying Prime 4 on principle (for Switch 1), I'll test the game for competence upon release. I will find one of those insta-uploaded full game playthroughs... and I will choose 4 different sections of the video to randomly cut to... if every cut to a new section comes with a Prime-tier piece of music playing in the background, I will consider that to be proper vetting, and will buy the game same day.

If all the pieces of music are just as milquetoast as the few we've gotten thus far from trailers - I'll wash my hands of the game and wait another 10 years to look in the series' direction when goytendo has hopefully pulled their shekel seeking oriental heads out of their asses. 🌈

1 Month til Metroid Prime 4: the first Prime game (potentially of worth) since 2007, the first Metroid game since Dread in 2021, a game fans have been waiting rabidly for since 2017 - and we're still sitting on nothing but an anorexic looking new open world gimmick, the Samus Batcycle gimmick, the likely situational telekinesis gimmick, and an all but absent big bad named Sylux.

My earnest hype has turned to groveling cope, only buoyed by Retro's past quality. Ain't it about time the top page poll was changed to "Do you think Prime 4 will be good or not"?
it'll be alright, but it won't even be half as good as the hype, its a fucking Switch (2lol) game.. that's trying to push the system to its limits, always a bad sign.

Ill wager it won't even be as good as Tears of the Kingdom, which was at least a fun "fuck around with shit" game, this will be a decent game in the "prime" genre but it won't do anything as wild as Metroid Prime 2's two worlds or w/e.

I watched the twenty minutes of footage, where the guy or girl playing could barely use the controls of course, and I'm currently watching some Japanese footage. I still think it's pretty cool that Metroid is a game with English voice acting and subtitles even for the Japanese. The ice beam is something I sorely missed in Metroid Dread, and seeing it used in this latter footage is pretty neat. The control beam reminds me of the scarab beetle from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, but looks like it'll have a much more prominent role, unlike the beetle that can be ignored for most of the game; it looks like a really cool mechanic.

I'm seeing people lamenting one Galactic Federation trooper, but it still looks like a fun game. I didn't like what they did with Pikmin 4, but I can appreciate that each Pikmin game is pretty different, and it was still fun. At the very least, this looks like a good game that'll do something different.

So one of the writers for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond could have been Megan Fausti. She left Retro Studios in 2022 and I know narrative shit is usually done last, but if she is the kind of writer Retro hires I think that NPC makes sense. Megan Fausti previously supported the Samus Aran is trans discourse started by Briana Wu and this Mary Sue article. The fact Retro hasn't done anything in years and this, I'm not feeling too good bros.

Yeah I'm seriously considering canceling my preorder. The retarded open world bloat with the bike and the periodic escort sections has pretty much killed my interest in prime 4.

For the last few days, I've been playing Super Metroid.

I get why people like it. It's fun, but slightly more complicated than I thought. Ever since I got that light that allows you to see secrets behind walls and floors, I've been trying to explore every nook and cranny to find things I've might have missed. Last upgrade I got was the Gravity Suit, but I think I might be lost because I'm exploring that water area after the wrecked ship and even though it's huge, I can't seem to access the rest of it, so I might be missing either another upgrade, or a secret entrance to the other parts.

There's a "secret" way into the rest of the level that isn't always intuitive.

Everyone is bitching about the NPC in Prime 4.
Haven't seen it yet, but I did see his glasses... which, right of the bat, why would anyone in a far future military still be wearing glasses?

Of course the reason he is wearing glasses is to fit him into the niche of a "tech nerd" at a glance, just like the nigger will undoubtedly be the leader or the Sgt. "Cock" Johnson of the group, yuck... but that's all they are there for, hollyjew stereotypes. 80s nerd glasses are dissonant with the future setting. There wasn't one person in the Prime 2/3 GFed who had glasses (or was a nigger, based) - because of course there wouldn't be, it's the far future with space travel... trivial things like bad vision have undoubtedly been fixed by that point.
It's like they have made their own Halo 4/Infinite.
I think Halo 4 people actually worked on Prime 4 too... oh dear boys.... and when it comes to the GFed, no one has been as cool as Dane and his demo troopers who spoke with brooklyn accents. I have to repeat, we were so spoiled with Primes 1-3 art direction.

Something tells me the troops won't be as endearing as those simple scannable logs from Prime 2. Where you could read about them thinking Samus was a badass myth, some believing in her existence, others doubting... Prime 3 may be my favorite, but the beginning of Prime 2 sets the stage so perfectly. You're learning about the troops while finding their dead bodies and being able to do nothing about it, then Samus gets to the captain and closes his eyes out of respect for the dead... better than any melodramatic moment from Other Meh.

Here's video of the fag in game, marvel humor and generic soyboy self insert. How did Nintendo fuck this up so bad:

This is the part that really made people turn:

You have to think about what the previous version of Prime 4 was like if Nintendo wasn't happy with it, but was with this iteration.
not other M enough.

I have a schizo theory that some higher ups are still mad about the understandable universal backlash to other M retconning the rest of the series and being utter shit in a way that was of the time a sort of proto current year character assasination type of game where samus is suddenly acting extremely out of character but we're supposed to ignore that and treat it like allt he other gamesbefore and after super and even super itself's characterization of samus didn't exist or something and we NEED talky talky textwall exposition to understand the basic fucking plot!

EDIT: A lot of the exposition in modern games is probably tied to the same shit TV and streaming companies have been doing where they pre-edit things for mobile phone compilations...

OH GOD I JUST REALIZED HOLD YOUR HANDS UP ON THE SIDES OF THAT VID THAT'S A NON GAMEPLAY CUTSCENE THEY'RE DOING THE MOBILE PHONE TIKTOK MEME FRAMING SHIT HELL! HELL! HELL!

I don't really play modern games, so I've never played a game with a guy like this before. With that in mind, he doesn't seem all that bad.

I've seen people talking for years about how cool it would be for Samus to have others on the planet with her during a mission, the possibilities for multiplayer and everything else. Now that it's happening, people are freaking out. I think it'll still be fun.
