So Tank can get a taunt skill that is incredibly useful, as well as a skill that makes it so he takes reduced damage. I forget the number but it's something crazy like 80 percent
There's a skill which blocks all incoming damage that comes from front.
Cleric has been a must-have for me. Not even sure how you'd do some of the longer expeditions without him, though I guess you could breed down the skills. Damage skills seem a bit gimmicky though.
You could stack regeneration or lifesteal items on cats.
There's also an another healer class which is unlocked later.

I'm sick and tired of the game's slow progression and failure snowball. I modded the game files to make the game faster.

If this sounds interesting to anyone I can put the file online. I'm trying to tone down the furniture prices.

Not going to pay $40 for a game in a genre I generally dont enjoy, but I'm tempted to pirate it and play and display it in the garage speakeasy over the weekend just because of how fucking weird and /ourgame/ it is.

ETA: That ResetEra thread where people are seething and foaming at the mouth about Edmund's response to the "controversy" about voice actors is fucking hilarious.
Two forum members who said "he sounds reasonable" and "these are meow sound effects, not political statements" are now being interrogated by the other thread posters because they're so fucking uncomfortable with dissenting opinions

Can you tell us where/how things are going bad in your playthrough? Outside of two runs I bailed on after the alleys (because I classed/skilled wrong) I haven't had much trouble, even bringing in strays to get to a 4-cat roster.

Game doesn't punish you with game over or failure for mistakes or bad rolls; it punishes you with grind.

And every mistake is meant to make you grind the same early dungeons to build up, right? Which is nice the first time, and you do the dungeons and build your team, right? Then you meet a really bad spot and the only choice is to grind up your team all over again. That can be anywhere from 1 run to 2 hours. Runs take a lot of time, and doing the same early level over and over again with tier 1 cats in the first dungeon is not fun.

It's like the game doesn't want you to play the endgame content or play with mewgenics, but instead just grind the early dungeons!

Which fight keeps sending you back to the alleys? What's your team composition? Having a ranger, cleric, and fighter/tank on my team with whatever else usually works out.

I did assume my team could tank a bomb in the rat fight once and had to end that run so I know one mistake can really punish you, but I just don't know how you're trapped in the first five dungeons unless the game is giving you cats with all 3s and giving you no movement skills/heavy damage skills.

E: I attached Chris. Both Chris and Jim Sterling are "female voices" lol

Not one in particular. But how it goes is, you make a team, you face the boss the first time, you have no idea what to expect, likely you get roflstomped and lose some good cats.

In the beginning you don't have that many good cats and are discouraged from using the breeding mechanic (small house, shitty rooms, low food income, etc). So you'd have to run the first floor again with some strays >>> get some good abilities and stats >>> try to get new good cats.

But that's like what, 3 in game days? Then you're out of food and have to make a shitty team to run the first dungeon again. And MAYBE you get a good team, but maybe you get a shit setup and can only do alleys; so then you waste time grinding trashmobs. Oh and guess what? Your team is shit for whatever reason (mage gets fire against rat boss or whatever) and you lose 2 cats permanently (happened, I had the necronomicon and zombies ate half my team, can happen and its silly) so this slows down your progress even further (unless you play super safe and super boring and ignore risky items or experimental builds) so then you end up doing alley with cleric - tank - ranger - X 100 times.

I made it so that food is 3x more abundant and storage offers 100 up from 40, so now I have to do one run and I can play around with breeding. It's a lot more fun; I have to do 5x as many trash runs to get the cats I want.

I also reduced the cats you need to send for favors cause that's just grind for grind's sake. But hey you can feel free to send Tink 100 cats to get the relationships icon, I'll just send him 10.

The only strange thing about it is that the game has been going... pretty easy?
15 hours in, I want to revoke my statement. Game has been kicking my ribs for the past 3 hours lol (at least you get some progress for game overs funnily enough)

I mostly died because I wanted to be too greedy and do everything at once (2 cats died [one of them colourless], still going to the caves cuz mama didn't raise no coward), but even then, there are some aspects that are legit difficult, like the many map traps or even just get screwed in a Event tile.

Which fight keeps sending you back to the alleys? What's your team composition? Having a ranger, cleric, and fighter/tank on my team with whatever else usually works out.
Not them, but there's 2 fights in particular that I only escape at Death's door or have one cat survive at least:

That one hallway hard fight with t4 sharks, 2 of them are elite and a daddy shark (they all inflict bleeding and gain an extra turn for EACH unit with bleeding on the map. Not only that, daddy shark will one-shot your cats if he gets in range)

1770944944494.png

And one hard hallway fight in the Caves where there's 6 bats and 2 of them are elite with an Epic Fetus. All bats have a 50% to dodge whatever you throw at them and they pretty much stun your units for 3 turns in a row with Confusion.

Also this game lies about only being "25% chance", because I swear to you, my Tank killed himself because he kept hitting himself 6 times in a row. I couldn't even use anyone else because they were all Confused as well (and they all kept hitting themselves more than half the time so what gives).

1770945486857.png

I legit save up whatever Thorns equipment I have just to deal against these freaks of nature.

I also despise the boss in Boneyard, but usually my team is pretty strong to deal with them propely so eh, it's all good.

That's probably it. I've just been focusing on healing and getting around map easily with only my fighter having a real good attack stat. The game does throw me curveballs like giving my cleric a monster mouth that procs bleed on anything the cat touches, including allies, effectively making it my fighter while my mage had to freeze units to heal them.
But hey you can feel free to send Tink 100 cats
He's purely a dump for shitter kittens and is sadly getting closer to that 100 faster than I would like.

I got a map where my cats were boxed in by pipes/enemies and a daddy shark right in front of my fighter at the start, lucked out having a roid pill and the heavy hit skill so I could take him out first turn.
I also despise the boss in Boneyard, but usually my team is pretty strong to deal with them so eh, it's all good.
It took forever to plant enough traps to damage him and then I didn't know what was doing and last hit him with a fighter that could do 20 damage and move 8 tiles in a move, so it ended with my lone mage mana dumping just enough damage before it would get pulped next turn.

edit this soundtrack is distractingly good, wtf? also the cat above got a concussion and now she's retarded
that explains why her kid is neither male nor female

I'm enjoying it so far, haven't done too much with the breeding mechanics yet.

Act 1 is super easy, so I'm confused what the guy above is talking about, you can clear it with a bunch of strays no problem.

Act 2 is a big step-up in difficulty, particularly the first part,
the desert
, the other areas seemed easier so far.

The house bosses so far have also been pretty easy, since you get to use your strongest cats, I'm not sure what the penalty is for losing the fight, besides the cats themselves.

Tank class seems the strongest so far, some stats are just way stronger than others.

Right now I think the game is a bit too simple? I've seen the same items/abilities too often, but I'm guessing there's a lot of stuff to unlock still so I'll have to reserve judgment until then.

Let's not break the games balance already, don't do a silksong and be a cunt who forces the Dev's to change the balance cause it's difficult or slow.

I'm stuck in caves, I spent all my money on food trying to get these cats to fuck but the retireds killed each other and the strays I pick regularly get beaten by the junkyard or sewer bosses cause their traits are shit. Oh well :(

So this is a reported list of credits for the game.

Liquid Chris can only refer to well Liquid Chris of Chris Chan fame right? Edmund if you ever read this just want to say I love your games.

And yes the motherfucker himself voices a cat in the game, but it has been 12 years in development so who cares that Edmund gave the disgusting pervert a plushie.
There's several names in there that makes me don't want spend a penny in this game

I've never seen a game generate so much praise and so much seethe from both aisles at once in awhile. Even if this doesn't turn out to be a huge hit, I gotta respect Strakmund on that alone.
